That double backflip will forever be burned in into my mind, I was a 2nd grader when he pulled that off, he was my hero and I hate that he is gone from this world. He was our generations Evel Knievel but refined. I dreamed of riding a Bright Red Haro Mirra Pro, flying out of a quarter pulling a no hander with the grace and style Mirra did. I never did get that bike yet, and I sure couldn't ever do much more than a 180 or feeble a ledge, but it's nice to think of a simpler time and remember how much Dave inspired me and other kids around the world. I hope that generations of kids to come will have a hero even half as humble and kind as Dave was. Rest in peace dude.

I love this simpler tricks in BMX. Now days people are flipping and spinning so fast I cant hardly see whats going on. I like slower, smoother, cleaner tricks - rather than a frenzy to put in as many tailwhips as possible before hitting the ground. Mirra's style had the best combo between clean and technical, so he's my favorite to watch.

I saved up and bought myself a Haro because of this dude when I was 12 years old, now I'm 33 and it's my Son's. 😃 I grew up watching this dude and Matt Hoffman, those were my two favorite guys to watch.
I don't know if he had CTE from the concussions but you figure if anyone would have CTE if would be Matt Hoffman, that guy used to slam from 30+ feet in the air all the time.
It's crazy, I still can't believe it sometimes even though it's been so long. RIP to the Legend and my condolences to his family.

That's what I said about the CTE. If mat Hoffman didn't go off the deep end I can't understand how a great person like Dave could. Im 33 and grew up loving Dave mirra and mat Hoffman and Ryan Nyquist. Those were the days. I'm building a tribute bike to ride with my daughter. Whenever I hear "My Hero" by Foo Fighters, I think of Dave. Tonight, I played the song on repeat and watched this video and the acoustic version with Dave Grohl “My Hero” on the Howard Stern Show in 1999. I got to see Dave ride once in person and he was so smooth and he had a way of using the entire park. There will never be another like him.

I remember the year he did the double flip and there were talks that he was going to pull it.
You just knew Mirra would land it first try perfect. There was zero doubt and I bet all the other riders thought the same. As soon as they heard he was throwing a double flip they all knew they were fighting for second

Dave had the best riding and rhythm nobody could ever duplicate his tricks were naturally maintained. Everyone does some sick tricks today dont get me wrong but today's bmx technology is easier and lighter in comparison to the bikes dave rode that were heavier and still land most of the trick i thought were hard was insane. Thats just my opinion.
