It's crazy my father actually took me to this x games. Totally forgot until I started watching BMX videos again, its.crazy that was pretty much 20 years ago 😳
So many legends in bmx x games back in the day. I would watch the BMX and skateboarding X Games reruns over and over again back in the day when I was in middle school and high school.
Jay Miron is a great dude! Hung out with him in las vegas at interbike 2007 and i was riding for dans comp at the time on s&m flow team and he goes outa no where randomly walks up to me “Al D punch me in the face” he was drunk as hell at the bar in the hard rock cafe and i said hell No Jay ur a legend, i love u man! He goes cmon we gotta get this party going! I said no way and he hugged me and laughed thats Jay Miron he is balls out wild man!!! Ha ha!! My best memory of him. Miss that guy. He rode like the name BEAST!!!
The transition between before and now: - Now they ride bigger tires, bigger handle bars, lower seat, smaller sprocket, plastic pegs & most ride Breakless.
Also, often no brakes, often only one set of pegs or none at all (many riders back then rode 4 pegs, and sometimes they were extra long/steel) and it's hard to tell obviously in a video but the bikes were significantly heavier. I had a Mirra Pro for a while back in the day, front and back brakes, and the sucker was 40lbs. Today's pros the standard is between 22lbs and 26lbs. The geometry has been more heavily refined and rider specific, and also the material itself has been improved significantly. You can have equal or even greater strength despite the lighter weight of the frame.
@@gxs8p578 its because most riders have learned to do a lot of the tire tap tricks balanced without brakes. Brakes are just extra weight and then you have to have a gyro and brakes and gyros are just more things that get broke. Simple is better. When I used to ride BMX dirt we always took our brakes off. You dont need brakes when youbare just trying to go fast and fly through doubles.
Do you have the rest of the broadcast!? I have the ABC broadcast on a tape somewhere here too, but at some point in the past, my younger brothers taped over a portion of it. I've been dying to find a copy of X Games VIII anywhere, but I've had zero luck, except for certain clips on RUclips here and there.
@@hanselmanryanjames absolutely. Then angles of the seat tube, of the head tube, of bottom bracket sizes, etc. Small modifications in angles/sizes can make a big difference in how the bike handles/feels. Different riders will perform better with different geometries.
@@kyleheaser1089 geometry is a sales gimmick. It is all about looking cool now, with big handlebars making it almost impossible to barspin now. The more material, the more the price goes up.
I was in attendance for this. Ran into TJ Lavine on the Wells Fargo Center (First Union Center) concourse.
man, thank you for upload this video, im emotional right now
You are welcome!

Thats AWESOME!

So much nostalgia. Mid school was my favorite time for BMX. It wasn't like today where it's like playing a video game and everyone has freecoasters.
Rest in peace, Mirra...
Vintage VHS. Nice piece of history you've got there 👍
THANKS!

I remember recording this on vhs from channel 5 in Uk...was a Whitton fan back on the day
This stuff was incredible man
Thank you. I wish I had captured more.
Absolutely insane when you consider how heavy those bikes were, and look at how tiny the handlebars are and how big the sprockets are
Awesome upload
Miron's 540 was so huge!

I didn't realize that.

Classic 🙌❤️
3:24 My favorite trick of the whole session
🔥❤️ That’s a great bmx video to watch! I just subscribed to your channel.
Keep it up 🥰 😃🔥
Thank you! Enjoy!
One thing I've noticed is the x ups back in the day were way cooler than today's. Maybe its the bigger bars?
When Tony Hawk allowed us to make parks. My brother and I were making all these street courses.
Great thank you.
You're welcome!
in 2002 if you could do a back flip or a tail whip it was like WHHHHOOOHHHHH!!!!!
Before the Canadian Beast's last days in bmx.

These bikes sound and look very heavy.
This is actually 2001 x games not 2002
The courses the used to make were just silly compared to today
shitty bike geometry made everything that much harder...
Yes you are right, the handle bars are too small.
What do you mean? Are bmx bikes designed differently now?

I love Dave mirra but looking back on it he really wasn't that good
