We've been using RODE mics for years both on and off The Live Sessions to record all of our audio. We were recently sent an NT2-A Condensor mic from RODE to try on our sessions.
In this short behind the scenes, Dan Coffey gives you a little insight as to how we've used it on recent sessions with Hudson Taylor, Shlomo and The Vocal Orchestra and Kristina Maria.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments and if you'd like to see more production tips like this from us.

Bright. So bright.
Great demo bro.
This was very helpful! Thank You!
Thanks Greg glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you, it's been vey useful.
Very*
I am planning to buy one because I want to recors two singers using pattern 8. But the doubt I have, when one singer sings at a time and another is quite, then quite singer's breathing sound and other sounds can be recorded. If could send two different output for the both sides, It would be great.
this may be obvious, but is cardioid the best pattern for recording rap vocals? thank you
Hello, thanks for your videos, I have a question to buy a microphone and I see that you have experience in these microphones, rode nt1 (black) vs nt2a, I do not care about the polar patterns or pad of the nt2, I will only use cardioid, but strictly adjusting to the sound quality you see best. Which gives you more sound quality, which would you buy for you?
Hello, I would say the nt2a has a slightly better sound.
nt1, nt1a and nt2a, I want the last one but i've read this mic has manufacturing problems in some cases :(
That must be rare.... i have two of them for like 8 years now, no problems.
I was going to buy a rode video mic go to use with my DSLR for acoustic sessions with solo musicians, is this a wise choice? Also, do you know if it overwrites the sound that is recorded in the camera itself? Thanks for the video.
A dedicated condensor mic will definitely sound nicer than your camera's mic & yes, plugging in an external mic will dissable your camera's mic.
Hi there,
I have a NT2-A Mic. Can I use this mic in a "Boom pole" for video recordings? if yes what accessories do i need? thank you for your help
You could boom an NT-2 but you would be much better off with an NTG-1 or NTG-2 (we used a boomed NTG-2 to record the dialogue in this video) because it's much more directional, lighter & cheaper. Have fun recording & filming!
