My mom was 93 when she died and had zero wrinkles around her eyes. She was a pin up model in the 1940s. She learned to put Vaseline on at night from the makeup artists. When I was 13 I started using it because it wiped up leftover mascara that didn't come off the night before. I'm 55 now. I have no wrinkles except 2 tiny 11s that are getting botoxed soon. I started slugging I guess then over 40nyears ago. Highly recommend, considering I'm complimented more on my skin than anything else. I started using eye cream at 22, because a saleslady said I'd thank her later in 87. I highly recommend this cheap, drugstore Vaseline because it works. My mom even used it in her last months along with Wet and Wild lipstick, because as she said "You never know who's coming around!" 😊
I use Egyptian Magic balm, has Royal jelly, propolis & beeswax instead of petroleum. I also used grass-fed beef tallow which is INCREDIBLY RICHLY MOISTURIZING for super-dry skin like mine.
What a great idea! In my life, I never would have even thought of using beef tallow. I have a few reasons for not wanting to use petroleum jelly, but God bless those who do. I just looked into it, and this is only the very minimum/beginning of what I found: "Vitamins in tallow can help produce collagen. Vitamin E is known for its anti-aging properties. It helps stimulate blood flow to our skin, which increases collagen production, and helps prevent signs of aging. By increasing collagen production, you can keep your skin looking smooth and firm for longer". The multitude of vitamins in it, are what I've been looking for in a natural product. And it doesn't clog pores!☺️ I'm going to look into it more deeply, as well as the Egyptian Magic Balm, (I've never heard of it), as I have several troubling skin issues. Anyways, a BIG THANK YOU!☺️🌻 God bless💛
That’s a great idea! I tried Egyptian magic balm once but it was so greasy I didn’t like it, but I like the idea of using it to lock in over my Retinol. Thank you
I also get grass finished suet and make tallow for my skin🖤 I whip mine up and it comes out super fluffy and light.. I love how it soaks in your skin and not greasy once it’s dry..
Been doing this since I was 11 years old (my grandmother told me to do it) I’m 41 years old and everyone thinks my kids are my siblings lol I LOVE Vaseline
Brill. One thing- dermatologists say to be REALLY careful with your ingredients when slugging. Basically, do it when using your humectants etc. NOT active ingredients like retinol because it can cause massive irritation. That is not supposed to be sealed in!! Just sharing in case people have sensitivity and experience a reaction if they try slugging with active ingredients especially retinol! Not a criticism, grateful for the video - just a heads up (watch The Doctors talking about it…). Thank you and all best wishes and glowiness inside and out to all 😊❤
@꧁꧂kittycat꧁꧂ ! It may be that you have luck on your side. If you read below in the comments, a Nancy Downs explains how, one evening/night she applied a thin layer of vaseline over her retinol and woke up with face burn the next morning. It's definitely an area to excersize caution in, if slugging over retinol.
I use it over my actives (retinol, azelaic acid in the night and vitamin c in the morning), and no irritation. Once your skin is used to the actives you might be good to go. Everyone is different though. But I love it. 42 with dry and sensitive skin, and not a wrinkle in sight.
Your skin is absolutely beautiful. I am 42 and have been using vaseline on my face at night for almost 20 years. Total game changer, cannot imagine life without it.
@Paloma King I'm super prone to milia and Vaseline is the ONLY thing that doesn't cause it for me. I have used it every day for 10 years. Sometimes 3 times a day.
I just turned 65 and have used Vaseline/slugging since my 20's. I have almost 'no' wrinkling, no crow's feet (!!), no eye bags, etc. I've also done face exercises here and there, and I'm *very* happy with my old skin. :) P.S. I have always used my fingers. No shame in my game. :)
The phrase "old skin" just cracks me up... My mom jus turned 68 and referred to her "old skin" last time I was with her 😂 When you take care of it, it seems like skin hardly ages!
@@vector3d654 You can check out "face exercises" right here on RUclips. I began with Faceaerobics (with Peta), but got to where I could do the exercises without the hand placements suggested in Peta's videos. I do them more isometrically. P.S. Any/all face exercises are more efficient if you do them lying down either before sleep, or in the morning, before you get up. Good luck! :)
@@SirenMeow Yes: that's the beauty of it--you really don't 'need' anything else for creams. The only other thing I do is exfoliate my face, neck and hands 2x/week with a 'Buff Puff'.
I have oily/acne-prone skin so for anyone like me, I only use it around my eyes and on my lips before bed. I use it all over the rest of my body and love it for my hands and feet.
@@lauren.o.connell That's great. I want to add it to my skincare routine as well. May I know when I should apply-before applying serum or after as a moisturiser or just the vaseline alone. Your reply would mean a lot to me. Thank you. ✨🌻
@@lauren.o.connell Is this method ok for breakoutprone skin aswell? Do you find that a oil works equally well as vaseline for slugging or is vaseline better?❤
I have been doing this for years! Many years ago Eartha Kitt talked about using Vaseline all over her body after a shower and then putting on her "sleeping pajamas". I believe she said that in a beauty article for Seventeen! She was a slugger years before anyone had that term for it.I never forgot it,have been doing it since I was 13!
I think it's been a long-term skin care practice in the Black community; most of my friends who have great skin and are Black have mentioned using Vaseline (they didn't always call it slugging, at least not when explaining it to me).
I use castor oil instead of vaseline and it works very well! Plus you can use it on your eyelids and under your eyes where the skin is very delicate. I also use it on my body when I first get out of the shower.
You are uplifting and humorous. I just discovered your channel and am 68 and enjoyed chuckling about your story about your daughter rubbing vaseline into her hair. Not funny for you, but a very cute story. Thank you! ❤ Kim
Marilyn Monroe used it as well. She had fine tiny baby hairs over her entire face and with her very fair skin (she liked to look "blonde all over")! The camera flash would cast a shine off the Vaseline on the tiny hairs that literally gave her the appearance of glowing. If it was good enough for Marilyn It is good enough for me!
Marilyn was a ginger and her face and body was covered with freckles I read her interview she said: vaseline, nivea and lots and lots of powder to make freckles dissapear So, no way that she just used vaseline on her pictures to make her facehair shine
Marilyn was not a ginger, her natural hair color was brown not red. Also I have read in numerous biographies about her and numerous makeup artists also said she used Vaseline and the effect on the baby hairs on her face did indeed make a glow on photos.
@@jeanesingsjazz yep you can see pictures of her when she was young she was naturally blonde but went brunette like many of us when we got into our teens.
@@jeanesingsjazz I've read both- some people say she had red hair, some people say brown. From the pictures I've seen (before she started dying her hair blonde) to me her hair looked auburn. A light reddish brown. 🤷♀️
You look amazing for 39!!!! My skin looked pretty good for a long time, but lately I've noticed a lot of changes. Thanks for reminding me about Vaseline. I used to do what you do with Vaseline with olive oil. I tried other oils but my skin liked a good quality olive oil the best. I will try vaseline. THANK YOU!!!!
You would want to put the olive oil on first and massage it into the skin then put the vaseline over it as the olive oil will not be able to penetrate the vaseline to get into the skin if you mix them together/use the vaseline first.
Vaseline is 100% my favorite skincare product. Absolutely the best occlusive on the planet. I have dry skin and psoriasis and still don't have any fine lines on my face or neck at 36. My mom is 64..looks 45/ 50 and she has used it for 30 years.
@newcatherine153 I use a very thin layer over my moisturizer and under my makeup during the day. All over my face. I do the same at night after I wash my face, but the layer I use is a little thicker, and I make sure to get my neck.
Her skin is beautiful. Take note, it appears she has not abused it with sun exposure. Everybody wants that suntanned look, but this is what real beauty looks like.
I am 65 (gasp). I started using face moisturizer when I was 14 at the suggestion of my mom following removal of stage makeup for a school play. I became addicted...and the thinker the better. Flash forward many years.....I stopped tanning in my 50's after a younger friend had a melanoma on her face removed. I started working at Nordstrom in Advanced skin care, which introduced me to serums, peels, etc.. which made such a difference in my already wrinkle-free skin. But last week, my daughter told me about slugging....and I was elated! And I began slugging this week! I'm considered a senior...but my skin doesn't reveal my senior status!
I've been using Castor Oil on my eyes at night, (not on my eyeballs, but on my eyelids and all around my eyes), as it is used in the Tears eyedrops, (that slick, greasy feel), so I know it is safe. And when I was digging up information on the benefits of castor oil, I learned that castor oil doesn't clog pores when used on the face, so it might work for those who suffer from acne.
@@Violet-qf8dr - Good to know. When I commented on a video for dry eyes, I kind of got scolded, so I assumed full strength castor oil wasn't supposed to be put in the eyes. That it needed to be mixed with other substances like in eye drops. I'm in the process of looking more into the benefits of castor oil for eyes, hair, and skin. I'm finding some very interesting information. Found a video that says it will get rid of stretch marks a couple of years old or less. And it will help with belly fat when rubbed on the stomach area. Back to digging.
@@rickimcfarland2269 - I just saw a suggestion to mix half and half castor oil and coconut oil to help with the castor oil's stickiness. So, I think I'm going to start using both together on my eyes from now on.
I also just learned that putting castor oil on the eyelids does help with dry eye, and the dryness of the eyelids can lead to dry eye. So glad I learned about castor oil and coconut oil. I used them both, plus Vaseline to get rid of the dermatitis on my eyelids, and to see there are so many benefits of using it is amazing.
I thought you were in your mid twenties! Thirty nine is youthful but you do not look 39! I'm so glad your channel came up on my recommendations. My grandma use to tell me when I was a teenager in the 80's to use Vaseline to moisturize my face. I wish I would've taken her beauty tips more seriously. Thanks for sharing!
Petroleum jelly is hydrophobic it does not provide moisture, but it traps moisture and does not allow moisture from outside to penetrate the skin barrier. Pros: Traps moisture Cons: May clog pores but regular cleansing can help reduce this.
Is this why i ended up with like fluid pouches under my eyes!? I put vaseline on my lashes (not my face) before bed once, just a light layer, top and bottom and when I woke up in the morning, usually where I have flat skin or some times just dark circles (but still flat) were pouchey bags of like puffy fluid - I was horrified. Luckily through the day it went away but I was so shocked to wake up and see these 3D puffy bags of like fluid under my eyes!!!
Yeah, I use hyaluronic acid, squalene, cold pressed castor oil, and raw Vit E for my slugging and then do five mins with my red light therapy mask to help it absorb.
I would never put a petroleum product on my face. I have seen doctors on u tube say it causes cancer, I mean I have large pores, I could imagine forever clogged pores. My dermatologist tells me to put Vaseline on a skin cancer scar I have.., ugh no thank you, I’ll use bio oil on my scar.
@@sharonfike5379 beef tallow is where it’s at!! Coconut oil can be drying to some. And it scores high for being comedogenic on the face. Beef tallow is superb, it’s what the Native Americans used. They had bison tallow tho too, which is REALLY good also💰😅
I use a mix of rose hip oil, carrot seed oil, vitamin a and e. I have combination skin, if I get a breakout I take a day off. Get complements all the time on my age. I don't wear foundation. Stopped years ago, 7 years ago.
I have sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin and vaseline on top of my skin care works wonders for me. I suppose everyone can be different but in my case I found out that if I try to mattify my skin or don't use moisturizers I'll get even more oily and can break out. finding the right products took a very long time but once I did, my skin healed so much! and now that I'm 40, I can feel how much I benefit from sealing in the serums and moisturizers as long as possilble. so I too love this method!
I slug with Neal’s Yard Remedies Wild Rose Balm, which is like Vaseline with rose oil in. I don’t like doing it at night much, I feel all bloated and puffy eyed in the morning. I do it when relaxing, I’m awake but lying down and listening to meditation stuff. Then I remove it after 30 min, wash with a facecloth, and then put normal day moisturiser on
Yes, I too prefer to slug with a Vaseline alternative because I personally care for cleaner skin care ingredients. Vaseline is literally petroleum jelly, anyone who cares to google how it’s processed from petrol may want to use another alternative but then again, maybe not 😁
Upon awakening in the morning, I typically apply Vaseline to my face, allowing it to remain on my skin for approximately 30 minutes. Afterwards, I proceed to shower and use warm water to rinse it off. As a result, my skin becomes noticeably softer and more refined. When I subsequently apply foundation, it effortlessly glides on, enabling my makeup to maintain its beauty throughout the entire day.
I microneedle my face and neck once a month. This promotes collagen production. But only lightly in the areas that i see wrinkles in my mother( genetically) .And where you see it in most people due to frowning, general skin sagging. I also use a gel cream, coconut oil and retinol. I already have great skin due to being mixed. I never smoked,i dont drink or do drugs. I also do not eat meat or dairy. As well as being an esthetician i learned alot.
You have been using something that works but I need to say as someone with dry skin, it is amazing to learn how this happens from the inside out! Some people need more hydration and supplements. I have some fine lines from smiling and talking LOL
You are so *beautiful* and also just *adorable!!* You remind me of *Drew Barrymore* so much in both looks and personality, and she’s one of my favorites-so positive and uplifting like you! Happy to have discovered you tonight!! 💕
Lol my mom's favorite story about me was when I was around 18 months old & she had just gotten me all dressed up in a cute outfit before going to a family party. Well she got up to get something & I immediately got into the jar of Vaseline. She was gone less than 2 minutes but in that time I managed to not only coat myself in a thick layer but the walls & leather couch received the same treatment 😂 I'm currently 48 & my skin is actually pretty good considering I've been consistent with my anti-aging skincare routine & applying sunscreen every day for the past 10 years but due to perimenopause my skin, especially my under eye area, is quite dry so I started slugging a few weeks ago & I am OBSESSED! No more dry, crepey under eyes
Your skin is beautiful and I do this same thing in hopes to stave off these wrinkles. I am older than you and I have super dry skin also. I also have been "slugging" for a while and I have no wrinkles either. I never knew other people did this. I have been doing it for a long time and I also use vitamin E oil on my hair and skin and I use Coco Butter. I am so glad to find out that other people do this and it isn't just a me thing! Thanks!
I have been using Vaseline for thirty years and have no wrinkles. I do use a serum after blotting the vaseline then a moisturizer. I am seventy seven and have no wrinkles.
I tried this maybe 3 times in the past couple of years. This is truly not for anyone dealing w/hot flashes or night sweats. I had to jump up to wash it off because I thought I was gonna pass out. Unless I put it on too thick 🥵
In the morning, I use Cetaphil light cream (I am allergic to most facial products...Even the supposedly hypoallergenic ones) At night, an hour before bed, I use Cetaphil healing salve ( it's like Vaseline). I am 65, and do have some wrinkles, but not nearly as many as I would have without treating my face with these 2 products.
I will be 60 soon and I am just now getting crowsfeet. I pass for 45 most of the time. I'm in Florida but I have staid out of the sun and I never smoked. I am going for the vaseline jar right now. I've been itching allover for two years too maybe it's dry skin and vaseline may help with that?? I guess I'll find out how much a new jar cost since I've probably had this big jar for ten years? Rock on young lookn gal!
Don't mean to sound racist. But, I've never seen a 39/40 year old WW with such smooth and hydrated skin in my life. I went to college with 20-something year old Wht girls who had wrinkles already. Especially, around their eyes. Whatever you're doing, KEEP doing it! It's working.
I showered and washed my face at 6:30. When I went to be at night I forgot I put my moisturizer with retinol on at 6:30 and at 9:00 put a light layer of Vaseline on my face and woke up with a terrible burn on my face! She is so casual about this. Refer to a dermatologist about what is and is not safe to slug over.
Vaseline is an oclusor so it magnifies the ingredients that you layer it on over. I use it at night and I just use my moisturizer and vaseline and retinol in the morning and I've had 0 problems.
There are actually two dermatologists here on YT that mention using Vaseline in slugging routines. If you are sensitive to retinol, then no…you wouldn’t want to seal it in with Vaseline. I use 1% tretinoin (very potent) and slug with Vaseline…not a single issue. I’m 42, and my skin just keeps getting better. Every person I’d unique and needs to find what works for them.
I'll be doing this under eyes and on chest area since I have oily skin. I already have 11 lines. With kids you never have privacy lol I'm 49 and my 15yr old daughter still comes into the bathroom
When I was like 12ish I read an article where Tyra Banks was talking about how her mom looks so youthful and said her mom put it I think around her eyes every night. I’ve been using it almost daily for almost 20 years. I’m 37 and I’m pretty much wrinkle free. So I believe it helps. I should note that I also believe it’s because my dad had very few wrinkles, so genetics and I have psoriasis which I think helps too
Same my aunt is almost 80 and looks 60. I have oily acne prone skin so I can’t use Vaseline. One good thing about oily skin is you tend to have less wrinkles and age gracefully ❤
I use petroleum jelly under my eyes/nose area to buffer the skin from sleep wrinkling. I imagine it working by finding its way into the fine/developing sleep lines, and if you turn in the night, the jelly stops the creasing. the visual is like bending a page in a book, the line is there. but if you put a piece of fleece (jelly) under the page and bend it, it wont leave a mark.
I like to use soft brown sugar in a good cream cleanser as a facial exfoliator, then a hyaluronic gel, then seal it with a tiny bit of warmed up vaseline before bed. I was lucky to be blessed with Spanish cream coloured skin and this routine stimulates the blood and preserves the colour.
Girl I work in Cosmetics and slagging is MESSY and ICKY. Vaseline SEALS the top Layer but it gets all over the BED. Using something water based with Hyarolonic acid, ( Vichy Mineral 89) FIRST then a moisturizer works BETTER AND NO MESS.
You don't have to slather it on. I don't always do it, but when I do, I put on a moderate amount, and it does the trick. I also do it about an hour before going to bed.
Instead of using petroleum jelly, which I'm not a fan of as it's too occlusive, I'd recommend using a scar cream instead to seal in your skin care. It's much healthier and also fades spots at the same time.
Silver and other scar creams can have serious side effects, including: signs of infection (such as sore throat that doesn't go away, fever, chills), easy bruising/bleeding, signs of anemia (such as unusual tiredness/weakness, rapid breathing, fast heartbeat), signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine, pink/bloody urine), signs of liver problems (such as nausea that doesn't stop, stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin), mental/mood changes.
I have the driest, most annoying skin ever, and I've been taking better care of it over the last 10 years or so (I'm 40), and took good care of it off and on thru out my teens and 20's. I never smoked, didn't drink, I burn easily so kept the sun exposure to a minimum. Most people think I'm between 25 and 30, so I already have pretty youthful looking skin. My eye and undereye areas tho are looking ROUGH. If I start slugging now, is it going to help or is it more of a preventive thing that I needed to be doing all along?
I don't use Vaseline, but what I do for about the past 3 years is use Gold Bond Ultra-lightweight Daily Body & Face Lotion on my damp face and then I use Kaufmanns Haut- und Kindercreme (Healing ointment) to lock it in as my night time regimen. My skin is drastically different and feels tight and smooth.
I think this Marily Monroe’s trick so I thought of it but thank you for giving me permission to try it. For when I don’t have La Mer handy. It has some of the same ingredient. And thank you for uplifting and empowering! 💖🧘♀️🌸
My blepharoplasty surgeon made me promise to keep ALL creams well away from directly under my eyes where he'd removed eye bags; that is not an area where you want any "plumping up" and consequent deflation leaving saggy skin. Everywhere else though I should imagine this trapping in of moisture etc by Vaseline works brilliantly.
I started a month ago only with Aquaphor and people have noticed and commented how good my skin looks. Ponds moisturizing cream under it, another granny product. Acne isn’t a problem as I’m 49.
My grandma always used Vaseline on her face. She passed away at the age of “86”, and didn’t look nowhere near “86”. I miss you Grandma 😢Lord Rest Your Beautiful Soul 🕊️
the fact that you dip your fingers in the tub and nothing happens should be enough proof that we don't need to use anything else to to get product out of containers. nothing bad is going to happen to the product. I always use my fingers in all of my potted items and they're all fine.
Odacite serums are just heaven too. I’m 52 with such dry skin. It’s certainly worth the money. I still slug too. My skin is hydrated and soft in the morning
Sounds like it would actually dilute and make the retinoids safer for those that are either sensitive or just starting to use them and have to still build up the amounts their skin can tolerate.
I always use Vaseline whenever my finger cracks and stings because of so much dryness. I put a thick vaseline on top of it and make sure never toucj anything to remove the vaseline, but put again vaseline on my cracked finger whenever I get awake in the middle of the night. In 2-3 days my cracked dry finger wound closed and was healed. So I believe that this will be good in my dry skin. However, Can this be a game changer if my neck have uneven color?
I've tried this and for some reason after a few days it has given me small bump under my eyelid and chin area. Maybe once a week is good for me and then the rest of the days gentle moisturising.
You can do this on your days off like when you're just sitting around the house not doing a whole lot, it doesn't have to be done at night so that you don't get it on your pillows it's 2:00 in the afternoon I've got my face Lathered in it while I'm cleaning
I hope by my forties my hormones will have changed enough for me to do this cuz this breaks me out like CRAZY. I have the worst kind of skin. It's sensitive and acne prone. Very hard to deal with all those issues at once. 🤪🔫 Btw, your skin is AMAZING.
I've been watching carnivore videos and that diet completely clears up acne. Maybe you can find food triggers - guessing ditching seed oils, wheat, and sugar would help a lot.
Try quitting all dairy. It will change your life. Best thing I ever did for myself after trying everything and spending thousands. It took about three months for my skin to heal. And then only got a pimple when I got my period but the painful ugly blemishes never came back. I’m 43 and people think I’m 28. Best beauty secret ever.
Your skin is immaculate and amazing. I suffer with breakouts I have combo skin I’m 41. Do you have any tips for combo skin. I sleep with a silk pillow but I will change more often. I love the fact you are honest too about preventive Botox.
I change my case every 3 days. Every night changing is a bit much and you could have a lot of dirty laundry. My face is clean before i lay on it with a deep moisturizer. I am always told i look 20 because i have a skin rountine that a chinese lady shared with me
I have acne, and I do something similar (in the cold/dry air months esp., which are a problem here in central Europe) with Weleda Skin food. It visibly makes my skin more moisturized than just my evening routine and doesn't cause breakouts. If it does, I stop, most likely the temperature outside has changed. I also put a thin layer on during the day if its freezing outside.
@@Julia-kg5vu Weleda Skin Food (the dark green one) in Winter and Skin Food Light (the light green one) in Summer as night cream on top of retinol and any essences, sometimes I am too tired and just put on Skin Food, and it's great. I have acne prone skin that used to be oily, but also dry patches. If I get some acne I take a break or just put on Phytoretinol and essences, as I said, I often get random break outs when the weather suddenly gets hot.
The dermatologist from the Doctorly said not to slug over retinols or other actives since the Vaseline can make those products way stronger to the point of burning, irritating and damaging the skin
😊Hello pretty lady!🌺 Yup👊🏿,I slug too😂swear by it! It works! I dont use Vaseline tho...🤷🏿♀️ I use a ointment by Cera Ve...it has ceramides and other skin beneficial ingredients ...🤷🏿♀️ Great information👍🏿
Are you kidding me? Is this really a thing? I’ve been doing this for a couple of years but stopped because everyone else says never to do it so I stopped but I always loved the way my skin felt in the mornings. Thank you for sharing ❤
I don't know if it's because I just turned 41, or if it's because I just gave birth to my son 6 weeks ago? But my skin is SO dry!!! Like it's to the point where I cringe when I feel it 😖
My hair and skin were very dry after my last baby, but it resolved. Seemed like exfoliation helped a lot. So maybe something gentle, followed by this slugging technique. Congratulations on your new baby!
Congrats on your baby!! I'm also just over 6 weeks pp. Your skin is probably dry due to the drop in estrogen. I live in a very dry climate and make a homemade concoction of canola oil, extra virgin coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax (melted together then stored in a little container). I massage it in all over after a shower, and in the shower I use a pumice stone to exfoliate all over. The combo of exfoliation and oils has been great.
I sold Mary Kay for a while, and the lady who taught me said never ever rub your eyes outward, always inward toward your nose.. it was making me cringe watching you do it.. 🤣… but, looking at your skin, don’t look like it’s hurt you one bit, your skin is lovely. Fun fact, I’ve used Vaseline on my face since I was a teenager too..
I want to try this, because my skin is a mess, but im really skeptic honestly. Like ingridient in vaseline isnt good its called patroleum and its banned in europe and my skin is super sensitive and im scared if it would react to it. Im 21 years old.
I have been using it for a week and I can see results already.. I had been using azelaic acid and tretinoin for my melasma and never seen results like the ones I’ve seen with the Vaseline 🤷🏻♀️
It's only recently when my skin went from oily around the t-zone, in which any kind of oil or grease caused me to break out, to currently having well balanced skin that NEVER breaks out. Now, I think I might actually be able to try slugging without triggering a massive breakout. Too bad I couldn't do it sooner in my 20's.
why can't it be called encapsulating, slugging sounds gross ... lol .. I don't do this though although I've never tried it but someone said it can give u milima or something ?? EDIT: I NOW SLUG WITH WISHFUL'S PILLOWGASM CHERRY GLOW SLEEPING MASK BY HUDA BEAUTY
just a quick question- how do you get the vaseline off your skin in the morning? it's so greasy. Also, this is what Marilyn Monroe used to make her skin glow under studio lights.
Young or older ppl shouldn't just rely on their age you know what matters the most and what more important but in my opinion not the idea nor terms of aging at all at a certain age. It's what and how you feel about yourself inside as well as on the outside. That counts the most. Feel as beautiful as the way you just simply are.
Do research before using Vaseline. It’s not the worst but it does have its down sides, and may actually do the opposite of what you want it to do, suffocating pores, drying skin, no nutrients, and not the most ethically sourced thing either - and you better hope the refinement process is on point or there could be impurities in there that are toxic… but it does have its uses, especially when it comes to cracked feat/skin and healing wounds or protecting wounds.
Your mom sounds fabulous. May her soul rest.
11s aren't under your eyes so you probably look great just like your mother. I'm sure she was a lovely woman.
You don’t need to have botulism injected into your face! Aging gracefully is a privilege that many never experience.
it just might be genetics. The wrinkles under the eyes are from the way a person smiles, inherited features
Your mother sure was beautiful AND wise ("you never know what/who is coming around"...so wear that lipstick! 😍😍😍)
Tried it, I own 5 pets. If you want to feel every single hair stick to your face and tickle it like crazy, this is for you!
LOL, woof...meow
😂😂😂😂😂
I am sitting here with Vaseline and 500 cat hairs covering my face... the struggle is real
I’m dying laughing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I almost died laughing same here I have pets but I use it anyway 😂😂😂
And it doesn't clog pores!☺️
I'm going to look into it more deeply, as well as the Egyptian Magic Balm, (I've never heard of it), as I have several troubling skin issues.
Anyways, a BIG THANK YOU!☺️🌻
God bless💛
Is it as greasy on skin as Vaseline
That’s a great idea! I tried Egyptian magic balm once but it was so greasy I didn’t like it, but I like the idea of using it to lock in over my Retinol. Thank you
@@eyeshalfwayopeneyeshalfway2603 Yes, pretty much! Lol
Thank you and all best wishes and glowiness inside and out to all 😊❤
Yes, thank you Arwen, that's super important information! Loving all of your videos Lauren.
I slug over my retinol and never had a reaction.

Hey can you share what facial exercises you have in your routine?
@@vector3d654 You can check out "face exercises" right here on RUclips. I began with Faceaerobics (with Peta), but got to where I could do the exercises without the hand placements suggested in Peta's videos. I do them more isometrically. P.S. Any/all face exercises are more efficient if you do them lying down either before sleep, or in the morning, before you get up. Good luck! :)
Is it okay if I just use Vaseline and no other creams??? Because I don't like using stuff on my face

Makes me think of the story of the man who invented it. Said he covered himself in a thick layer to cure himself of ailments.
Eartha Kitt was a goddess! Applying it after washing/bathing to WET clean skin is important! No dirt & seals in the moisture 😊
I met Eartha once and she was just the nicest, most calm and cheerful person. The best beauty hack is a good heart.
I think it's been a long-term skin care practice in the Black community; most of my friends who have great skin and are Black have mentioned using Vaseline (they didn't always call it slugging, at least not when explaining it to me).
I’ve been doing it for years w olive oil and Vaseline
Marilyn was a ginger and her face and body was covered with freckles
I read her interview she said: vaseline, nivea and lots and lots of powder to make freckles dissapear
So, no way that she just used vaseline on her pictures to make her facehair shine

Could you please share how you use it ? Do you only apply it at night or during the day too ?
@newcatherine153 I use a very thin layer over my moisturizer and under my makeup during the day. All over my face. I do the same at night after I wash my face, but the layer I use is a little thicker, and I make sure to get my neck.
Her skin is beautiful. Take note, it appears she has not abused it with sun exposure. Everybody wants that suntanned look, but this is what real beauty looks like.
You can use sunscreen and go in the sun, you just have to apply it every 2 hours and a generous amount. But yes, always cover the face no matter what.

These higher numbers (age) kind of sneak up on us🤣
I've been using Castor Oil on my eyes at night, (not on my eyeballs, but on my eyelids and all around my eyes), as it is used in the Tears eyedrops, (that slick, greasy feel), so I know it is safe. And when I was digging up information on the benefits of castor oil, I learned that castor oil doesn't clog pores when used on the face, so it might work for those who suffer from acne.
I use castor oil as well. Or sometimes I'll use a combo of olive oil, rosemary oil, avocado oil and castor oil. As long as I use natural oil I'm good.
You can actually put it in your eyes. It is supposed to help cure insomnia.

I used them both, plus Vaseline to get rid of the dermatitis on my eyelids, and to see there are so many benefits of using it is amazing.
Hello from NYC! My mom used vaseline never a fancy cream and her skin is wonderful, she did not have any wrinkles
Don't do that !!!!!! Vaseline is petrolatum petroleum jelly!!! Olive oil is amaizing!! Full of vitamins and antioxidants!!!!
Petroleum jelly is hydrophobic it does not provide moisture, but it traps moisture and does not allow moisture from outside to penetrate the skin barrier.
Pros:
Traps moisture
Cons:
May clog pores but regular cleansing can help reduce this.
Which is probably why she said that you put on your moisturizer first and then put on the Vaseline to make sure that it has nowhere else to go.
@@MakeWay4CJ absolutely!
I was wondering about the pores clogging! I need to try it tho
Vaseline got zero pore-clogging ability. Looks up " comedogenjc rating " . It's zero ( meaning can't clog the pores)
Vaseline is a petroleum product. I use Coconut oil instead and it works great.
They had bison tallow tho too, which is REALLY good also💰😅
I've found jojoba oil (Trader Joe's) to work in a similar way. There's also Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment.
I'm 24 and suffer from acne. Im big on skin care but I don't want my face breaking out by using Vaseline. The coconut didn't break you out?
I use a mix of rose hip oil, carrot seed oil, vitamin a and e. I have combination skin, if I get a breakout I take a day off. Get complements all the time on my age. I don't wear foundation. Stopped years ago, 7 years ago.
I hv been using this for almost a month ,& the results r amazing ,i use it for face massage at night. It is very useful.
I use the CERAVE healing ointment, it's more practical because it comes in a tube
You look amazing, your skin looks great at 39 years young. Thank you for sharing ❤

I microneedle my face and neck once a month. This promotes collagen production. But only lightly in the areas that i see wrinkles in my mother( genetically) .And where you see it in most people due to frowning, general skin sagging. Lol my mom's favorite story about me was when I was around 18 months old & she had just gotten me all dressed up in a cute outfit before going to a family party. Well she got up to get something & I immediately got into the jar of Vaseline. She was gone less than 2 minutes but in that time I managed to not only coat myself in a thick layer but the walls & leather couch received the same treatment 😂
I'm currently 48 & my skin is actually pretty good considering I've been consistent with my anti-aging skincare routine & applying sunscreen every day for the past 10 years but due to perimenopause my skin, especially my under eye area, is quite dry so I started slugging a few weeks ago & I am OBSESSED! No more dry, crepey under eyes

I totally believe you, Margaret.
Someone said to not use vaseline while using retinol
Never slug on top of retinoids!
To anyone who does this: how do you stop your hair getting greasy at night? Doesn't the vaseline on your face and neck get all over your hair?
Put your hair in a braided bun
I just put my hair back in a braid & wear a cloth headband to keep my curtian bangs back. I'm 29 with very dry skin, slugging is great!
I love greasy hair
I'll be doing this under eyes and on chest area since I have oily skin. I already have 11 lines. With kids you never have privacy lol I'm 49 and my 15yr old daughter still comes into the bathroom
And once the kids are grown & gone here come the dogs🤣
When I was like 12ish I read an article where Tyra Banks was talking about how her mom looks so youthful and said her mom put it I think around her eyes every night. I’ve been using it almost daily for almost 20 years. I’m 37 and I’m pretty much wrinkle free. So I believe it helps. I should note that I also believe it’s because my dad had very few wrinkles, so genetics and I have psoriasis which I think helps too
Yes, Vasline! My aunt has such a yougest skin because of it. She told me she is using it for more than 40 years.
I imagine it working by finding its way into the fine/developing sleep lines, and if you turn in the night, the jelly stops the creasing. the visual is like bending a page in a book, the line is there. but if you put a piece of fleece (jelly) under the page and bend it, it wont leave a mark.
the way i gasped when she said she was 39
I like to use soft brown sugar in a good cream cleanser as a facial exfoliator, then a hyaluronic gel, then seal it with a tiny bit of warmed up vaseline before bed.
I was lucky to be blessed with Spanish cream coloured skin and this routine stimulates the blood and preserves the colour.
You have flawless youthful skin, like a woman in her teens.
She admits to Botoxing.
Not as cheap
I am addicted to nivea crème blue
But i can maybe try vaselin on my lips
Instead of using petroleum jelly, which I'm not a fan of as it's too occlusive, I'd recommend using a scar cream instead to seal in your skin care. It's much healthier and also fades spots at the same time.
Hi,which scar cream do you use?

Interested in this, too.
I did that and ended up with three small keratine lumps under my eyes that I have to get rid of. Be careful.

My blepharoplasty surgeon made me promise to keep ALL creams well away from directly under my eyes where he'd removed eye bags; that is not an area where you want any "plumping up" and consequent deflation leaving saggy skin. Sounds like it would actually dilute and make the retinoids safer for those that are either sensitive or just starting to use them and have to still build up the amounts their skin can tolerate.
I always use Vaseline whenever my finger cracks and stings because of so much dryness. I hope by my forties my hormones will have changed enough for me to do this cuz this breaks me out like CRAZY. I have the worst kind of skin. It's sensitive and acne prone. Very hard to deal with all those issues at once. 🤪🔫 Btw, your skin is AMAZING.
Mine did too,but i switched to the blue tin one and it doesnt with this,no idea why
Thanks for the suggestion, guys. Unfortunately, I can't afford to eat better at the moment.
Your skin is immaculate and amazing. I suffer with breakouts I have combo skin I’m 41. Do you have any tips for combo skin. I sleep with a silk pillow but I will change more often. I love the fact you are honest too about preventive Botox.
What do you recommend as a substitution for Vaseline for those with acne-prone skin?
Neutrogena has really good acne face wash n moisturizer, helped my daughter a lot🌻
Which product do you use from Weleda
😊Hello pretty lady!🌺
Yup👊🏿,I slug too😂swear by it!
It works!
I dont use Vaseline tho...🤷🏿♀️
I use a ointment by Cera Ve...it has ceramides and other skin beneficial ingredients ...🤷🏿♀️
Great information👍🏿
Ohh I’ll have to check that out! Thanks for the tip!
Are you kidding me? Is this really a thing? I’ve been doing this for a couple of years but stopped because everyone else says never to do it so I stopped but I always loved the way my skin felt in the mornings. Thank you for sharing ❤
Hello maria😊
I don't know if it's because I just turned 41, or if it's because I just gave birth to my son 6 weeks ago? But my skin is SO dry!!! Like it's to the point where I cringe when I feel it 😖
My hair and skin were very dry after my last baby, but it resolved. Seemed like exfoliation helped a lot. So maybe something gentle, followed by this slugging technique. Congratulations on your new baby!
Had that after my first son. Doc prescribed vit b mix for dry skin and anxiety cause I was a bit too worried about my baby as well.
@@pamelaaverrett5848 Thank you 😊
I don't understand should we apply it after applying retinol or before applying retinol
I must have learned that at a Mary Kay party-rubbing inward. I’ve done that for as long as I remember.
How have you been using it in your routine? Do you put it over four moisturizer?
I love doing this too!! Just ones a week though because it gets messy in bed 😅 Love your channel, so glad YT recommended you! X
just a quick question- how do you get the vaseline off your skin in the morning? it's so greasy.
Also, this is what Marilyn Monroe used to make her skin glow under studio lights.
It gets absorbed (and wiped off )by the morning , it definitely takes a while to absorb
But how do you wash it off properly??
Sometimes after I wash it off in the morning, my skin gets red or too oily during the day.
Have you heard about odacite oil serum. It’s so amazing and my face is so dry like the arid desert.
Young or older ppl shouldn't just rely on their age you know what matters the most and what more important but in my opinion not the idea nor terms of aging at all at a certain age. It's what and how you feel about yourself inside as well as on the outside. That counts the most. Feel as beautiful as the way you just simply are.
Your skin looks amazing ❤
I heard using Vaseline on top of retinol is not advised as it can irritate the skin?
Do research before using Vaseline. It’s not the worst but it does have its down sides, and may actually do the opposite of what you want it to do, suffocating pores, drying skin, no nutrients, and not the most ethically sourced thing either - and you better hope the refinement process is on point or there could be impurities in there that are toxic… but it does have its uses, especially when it comes to cracked feat/skin and healing wounds or protecting wounds.
Totally remind me of Drew Barrymore. Beautiful with a cuteness, even with no makeup.
