    • @JohnKuiphoff
      @JohnKuiphoff  2 года назад

      Congrats on the Glowforge! In the past, I have used my Glowforge to cut door hangers out of 1/8" acrylic (and had a sign shop print and cut vinyl stickers to cover it). Almost any material should work for a door hanger - wood, bamboo, or even leather could work. I LOVE Adobe Illustrator but I have used almost every vector drawing software (Inkscape, Affinity Designer, Silhouette Studio, etc). And yes, I am working on a course right now: glowforgeforbeginners.com/ - it will include a few dozen pre-recorded videos, live weekly workshops, special guests (and instructors) and 1:1 tutoring. @@JohnKuiphoff so the rounds they sell on Amazon. They are mostly 0.1. So can you use those outside or just inside

    • @JohnKuiphoff
      @JohnKuiphoff  2 года назад

      @@jenniferledford8045 It sort of depends on the weather. 0.1" rounds are pretty thin - I'd try to get 0.25" if you can. Plywood tends to warp more in humid locations and you won't want to get MDF wet at all. The thicker the plywood, the less it will generally warp. You might have better luck finding rounds on Etsy. Others on the numerous Glowforge Facebook groups also sell rounds - it might be worth joining a few groups.

    • @JohnKuiphoff
      @JohnKuiphoff  2 года назад +1

      oh sure, absolutely! The same technique would work. You can also use weld-on glue on the acrylic if the stamp is getting used a whole lot (although the tape should work okay, too). Or, you can simply engrave the .25 in or .5 in acrylic with multiple passes and you won't need tape or glue at all. That's a great idea. I'd love to see how your stamps come out.

      It’s all re-stickable until your press it down. Once you apply pressure, it’s permanent.

      All I can say is that my Glowforge literally paid or nearly everything in my shop (but I use it a lot). Sure, you could easily make custom or personalized bike plates, keychains, maps, marked knives / flasks, etc. But I'm sure that you could think of something even better. I'd be happy to run a 1:1 demo (I do them a lot) if you want to try out some files. I can mail you the pieces we try out. My email is kuiphoff[at]gmail.com

    Hi John: like the video BUT, You loose me repeatedly. For example, you tell me glowforge can’t cut metal but that it can cut tape, but what does that mean? How does cutting tape end up with the cut metal letters that you show being stuck to a metal backing? Completely unclear how this is happening or working. Many of your other examples are likewise unclear, what you are doing and how you are doing it. Another for example, it took me rewatching the pull apart the sheets episode several times before I finally realized that you had put that tape between those two sheets. I know this is all obvious to you because it’s all in front of you and you are doing it. But when presenting to a naive audience, you can’t assume ANYTHING, or you risk loosing us.😢. Another for example, you smear something goo onto the rubber, and the apply some kind of tape. What are you doing? Why are you doing it? What is the goo? What kind of paper? What kind of rubber? Your video is a string of taunting unanswered questions that just frustrate me more than inform ore instruct.
