Remember if you are just starting to play bass, it's ok to leave the riffs out for the mean time. Your priority is getting the right chords and groove to better accompany the band. Don't force yourself into getting those riffs, it may not sound the way you want it to. You can always come back at those songs once you have become a better bass player.
