Love the little Wayne Kerr joke! We have Wayne Kerr equipment at work (LCR meters and such) and is a common joke that never gets old, especially with new starters 😂

Hi, thank you very much for sharing this video. I've set up the disarming function as you showed in the video. I do the arming-functionality in the same way. And it works. I've still the problem, that the Keypad only reacts to the standard "1234"-code after pressing the arm-button. Is ist possible to change that code or do you've a workaround for this? Thank you.
Did you have any sound or something to know the alarm system is in entry or exit delay? I have the same keypad but I cant found any way to do that. Thanks
Ring alarm keypad through zwave has been working well for me. I used a konnected io board for wired sensors and the ring alarm keypad gives full functionality for my alarm. It even has all the arm/disarm sounds built in (when you disarm the alarm you hear a lady say disarmed etc.)
That's fine if you want to pay the price for Ring. There are plenty of off the shelf systems. Doing it in Home Assistant are pretty well free if you already have the sensors for your automated home processes :). Also, as far as I know Ring will only say Arm or Disarm, won't say who disarmed it :)
I was also thinking about getting the ring keypad as it is really slick. Only think is that it runs on Z-Wave. I don't have any other Z-Wave devices and most likely never will. So I really don't want to have yet another network standard in my home, next to 3 zigbee networks, wifi etc.
Thanks for the video! Sorry if this is a stupid question, the ZHA_Event you listen too, will that be the same for zigbee2mqtt setup? Am running HA as a docker and the same for zigbee2mqtt and the mosquito brocker. I really like the keypad and would love to integrate but am just unsure about this step. Thanks!
@@JS0090 sadly no. Went for another solution instead. I decided to use a tag reader rather than a keypad. This way i can just scan my tag to enable or disable it and still use a pin on the phone too. Let me know if you want to know more.
Shortage of keypads is an understatement LOL. But if you do get your hands on a zigbee pad 4 z h a please do a video on it. Here in the US it's impossible to find a keypad for zigbee with z h a that connects flawlessly without so much work . I wish there was one that paired up just like the sensors quick and easy. Thanks for your video and great info.
Hi, I am trying to make my apartment smart home with home assistant but I don't know where or how to start. Is there any video o videos I should watch to start the process? Thank you!
I build my Alarmo setup (phase 1) a little more than a year ago. I have been using an old iPad as the alarm key pad, but have now got a Frient Zigbee keypad like the one you use in the video and the description on your webpage. I'm running Zigbee2MQTT and I have the key pad connected to Home Assistant. I have been following your guide to get the key pad to work with Alarmo, but I can't figure what event to subscribe to start listening for those events from the key pad. I have created different users with unique codes in Alarmo. Can you guide a "not-so-technical-guy" the next step? Thanks for help and all the good inspiration :-)
Thanks for this added tutorial. I read that the keypad you use has a built in RFID reader. I have one on backorder but they just pushed the delivery to 2023 (yikes!). Have you checked if this can be integrated in Home Assistant somehow? My hopes were that you can use an RFID tag (that I e.g. stick to the back of my phone) can be used to disable the alarm w/out me having to put in the key. Or, and that would be an absolute dream, I can just hold my Apple Watch in front of it to disable it. Is any of this possible?
Would it be possible to have an NFC-scanner at the front door, and having a NFC-tag on my keychain to disarm the alarm? That prevents me or one of my housemates from forgetting the code. Or maybe it can work with a card I always have to have at hand, like my ID-card or a badge from work, or a debit card.
I already had a Eufy alarm which was underwhelming. The integration is not perfect but whenever Eufy is armed, I arm Alarmo and vice versa. The key thing was that we already had a keypad at the front door so wanted to use that. Now I just need to decide what happens when the alarm is triggered as the Eufy siren is barely audible.
A little off topic but worth while. What is the recommended platform for Home Assistant given all the new standards, packages, items like Matter, etc.? I have my current Home Assistant running on a Virtual machine. Will I be able to take advantage of Matter and all the new stuff or do I need to have a physical Home Assistant device?
That's the nice thing about HA is that most protocols can be easily added if not native - Matter currently uses thread as it's primary mechanism, so you could add a thread radio to get matter support. The matter spec has only just been released though so will take some time for it to be available
I've been looking for a good affordable keypad for a long time. Still haven't found one. I ended up using an old phone and the Alarm Panel android app. It works well, but consumes much more energy than needed and probably not viable for the long term. Plus, got to hide the power cable. What is the one you are using in this video? Didn't see it listed in the show notes.
If the welcome message accepts true yaml then you can change the "{{ changed_by }}" to "{{ changed_by | replace("Panic", "keypad") }}" and it will sound natural. If you choose a name and the person has done it's homework then a false name can be suspicious. Also having it say disarmed by "Jennifer" when you are clearly male could make him/her look strangely at you.
Hello guys, I am using the same Keypad and I have also connected through Zigbee through my Home assistant. However I am having an issue = The keypad works normally and I can Arm and disarm the alarmo. The issue is that the Keypad keeps blinking the first LED (from left to right) in red color. I have asked Frient and they told me they didn't work yet with the interface with Home assistant and this could be a ^bad^ communication alarm. Anyone suffered the same?
Be interesting to see how the cheap “Tuya RFID” keypads you see handle this. Rather tap a fob or my phone on than enter a key code, suppose it would just be a similar practice!
