    Is it possible to paint a portrait in half an hour? Professional portrait painter Matt Philleo attempts this on an 11 x 14 canvas board, painting in acrylic. It is hard to paint true realism in this amount of time, but it is a good exercise to see and capture the essence of a person quickly. Get my free email mini-course at realisticacrylic.com

    I think this demonstrates clearly the superiority of oil paints for portraits

    Thanks for the prayer! And to the ultimate CREATOR! I liked this. I've always painted with oil and for the first time will venture into acrylic just for the sake of no time. This helped. I will definitely subscribe. God bless, brother!

      @@lauren6348 Its interesting that you would ask me that, since I am known more for transparent layers with the glazing technique. But to make your paint more opaque, add white/ yellow ochre/ raw sienna to your lighter layers, and raw umber to your darker layers. Also, paint with a thick amount on your brush. Hope this helps!

    Matt i really loved your thirty minute study. It shows me so much real time examples that i find my mind working along better this way than learning any other way i think. I need to get my skin tones and gradation down a bit more, but that takes time and experience. I'm very new to portraits, but i was blessed when i found your videos. Thank you.

      Thanks, Allen. Glad you enjoyed this! I may have to do more of these studies. It seems people have liked this one the best.

    I think you did an awesome job, especially since you did it in 30 minutes! I've been wanting to do human portraits. I paint animal portraits, as well as floral paintings, and etc., in acrylics. Today I've been watching tutorials on painting human portraits in acrylics. Then I came across yours a few minutes ago. I really enjoyed watching you do this painting. I plan on watching more of your videos. Now I'm even more inspired to paint human portraits. Thank you so much for this video. And by-the-way, I also pray before I paint. My desire when I paint is for the Lord to get the glory, and for others to be blessed by my paintings, and especially by the paintings people commission me to do. Otherwise, there would be no reason for me to paint. I wouldn't do it just for myself. Anyway, thank you again for this video. I have subscribed. Have a blessed day!

      Thanks for sharing, Barbara. I'm so glad my painting has inspired you and even more so, that you pray before you paint. May God bless you richly in your portrait painting!

    I found it interesting that you put in the shadow before the features, and you drew the features in rather than creating the deep eye sockets, etc. You achieved what you set out to do. Great job!
    Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks, Jude! I am thinking of doing a few more of these 30 minute portraits. I'm sure the approach may be different based on the photo I'm working from.

    • @fineartbymattphilleo
      @fineartbymattphilleo  5 лет назад

      Hi Jude. Thanks for the kind words. In a portrait being painted this fast, I have to do the shadows first because it quickly captures the dimension of the head. If I was sketching it, however, I would draw in the features first. Just a different approach, based on the kind of portrait I was doing.

    Lovely. Looks like your prayer was answered. I used to play bass too! Still my favorite instrument.

      Thank you, Grayson! it was fun to do a quick painting like this. Hope you can get a chance to play bass again...I play just twice a week for my church's worship band. Guitar was my first instrument, but they needed a bassist and so now that's my thing. :)

    Matt, your painting is very nice. If I may suggest your audio sound was muffled sounding. It sounds like you weren't talking into the mic. Blessings.

    • @fineartbymattphilleo
      @fineartbymattphilleo  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Terry, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I think I had the wrong mic selected on my recording program. So it was picking up the sound at a distance. Corrected the problem on my other videos.

    How do you make your portraits look younger...mine always look older?

    • @fineartbymattphilleo

      Easy. Just paint less wrinkles. This was a portrait of my wife, so I'm painting her the way I see her. Beautiful. :)
