You always inspire me so much, your art is gorgeous. I've done digital painting for years and am only now just getting into acrylics. I'd love to give oils a go soon, this is so helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much for posting right now. I was in such a bad mood and just had a giant fight, but your videos make me happy and forget all the harmful things going on in life. thank you lena♡
This is the first tutorial i ever followed on my first timer painting.. and it really works, end up so realistic.. Thank you so much Lena, love you.. Can't wait to see more paintings from u.
I'm a digital painter and I mostly do realistic stuff but I wanna try Oil painting. Your vids got me more excited to approach this media and I thank you for that! Great video! The song and the process mesmerized me.
To be honest, your video tutorials are so satisfying, idk if its the voice, the music, the style of painting or all of it! xp but thank you so much for making me so confident to shift from digital artwork to manual painting its my huge fear because i started digitally, much appreciated!
I have been working on a mandala eye painting were the iris was a grand mandala and I was stuck and kept on messing up. I am SOOO glad you posted this because I feel like I have a reference now. You are my savior Lena and now I regained strength lol. You are so talented and I know filming paintings is a pain but I know you're going to go places from these videos. Thank you thank you THANK YOU Lena!! Keep painting 😉😉
I'm so happy this is a real how-to! you know there are so many videos on RUclips titled how to and then there's no commentary or real semblance of tips
This is great. I'm enjoying your videos a lot. You seem to have such a clear grasp of hue and tonality. Adding the orange tones to the skin really brought it to life. Buuuut I'm such a stickler for eye anatomy. The cornea is actually the clear outer layer of the eye that domes outwards in the centre. The 'whites' of the eye are the sclera. I used to work in optics which is why I'm such a pain with this 😂
This woman is really helping me out this art! She always knows what to do and she is so very talented. I have my grandpa's old Art Supplies and i didn't know what the oil or the ink as used for but know that i watched her video's i know what they are used for, I even found some of the same pants used in this video. I am so happy i am subscribed to her and she will lead the way in my artwork history! Thanks so much Lena!
I have been oil painting on and off for nearly 20years.so I have been painting regular again now and I have been wanting to work on painting eye's since I never have before. So cool that you have a wonderful tutorial on painting eyes.and I love the music.
you inspire me to keep my passion for painting alive, I get told to stop and put my brush down after finding your videos I will never do that and always be encouraged to keep trying and getting better thank you Lena! p.s.when I found your videos I cried tears of joy from the fact I felt so happy to feel supported for my passion to make art.
I recently subscribed to your You Tube channel because I'm a beginner painter (as in I literally have only done one painting in my life and I used your candle video as my reference) Thankyou for your videos!! I find them really helpful in my learning! I'll let you know when I have completed my second painting (again... I'll probably use one of your videos as a ref.) What I find extremely helpful about every single one of your videos is that you show me what colours you use to create all the different tones in the references. Keep it up because I have NO IDEA how to mix colours yet!!! Thanks for your help I really appreciate it!!
Wow! Looks like the eye will blink any moment, it’s so real. Could you please do another tutorial for the eye, but slow, so that it’s easy to understand. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
I just stumbled upon your videos and I must say YESSS!! THANK YOUUU!!!! After not painting in so long and feeling so out of it with oil paintings and not knowing how to start again, I can say thank youuu!!
Yes there is an annotated correction of that error in the beginning of the video, if your annotations are turned off you're you're viewing on a phone it doesn't pop up :)
Also thank you so much for this honest and amazing and thorough tutorial. I haven’t painted since HS, I’m old now and struggling to get my paintings to look realistic, this video helps out so much, and also helps out my confidence. I can finally get the look I want for my art.
Georgeous, and wonderful to watch. The word "cornea" doesn't mean what you think it does, though. Here's what it means. The cornea is the transparent part of the eye that covers the front portion of the eye. It covers the pupil (the opening at the center of the eye), iris (the colored part of the eye), and anterior chamber (the fluid-filled inside of the eye). When you say that word you meant the "white" of the eye. Still, I'll subscribe and watch more of your lovely work. Thanks for posting it!
Wow, that was so amazing, I have never seen the painting of an eye demonstrated so expertly. Your skills are unbelievable, and I will make an attempt to use what you have taught me, as I am struggling with a 16"×20" portrait of my prescious little 4 year old granddaughter. To share a little about myself, I am 30 years, USArmy, retired, and combat disabled from my 3 wars, and 4 combat tours, trying to live through the loss of my Commander, and too many of my soldier and coalition friends. My painting has always been a struggle while working through my problem with color-blindness. Red/green is the range of my color problems. I am so looking forward to your other teaching videos. Thank you, MSG Leum
This has helped me so so much!!! I've painted two eyes from this tutorial and i find that the more i watch this again and again while trying different colors , i get better at it. So thank you!
Absolutely love your painting and the way you teach is incredible. Just in case you hadn’t already been informed however, the white of the eye is the Conjunctiva, not the Cornea. The clear covering surface of the coloured Iris is actually the Cornea. (Sorry the doctor part of me couldn’t let this pass!) Thank you for sharing so much of your beautiful skills with the world...you have inspired me to move from acrylics to oils!
I love your art! You make me want to oil paint so bad, though I am terrible at it and sketching pencils and colored pencils is where I am at my greatest. Keep making more videos and don't stop! I love your art!
Hay Lena ! Im in love with your techniques and your videos coz ive been watching your videos from the morning and now i am back to painting and i know all the techniques! Im not a beginner but still watching your videos is so satisfying 💜😀😍
You inspire me very much to start oil painting and I am looking forward to it a lot!!!!!! I am eleven years old so my friends say that I can't oil paint but you inspire me and you are the best!!!!!!!😍😍
This was a great detailed tutorial. I love the way your pallete looks, it almost makes me want to get oils! By the way, this song reminds me of something but I don't know what.
Thank you Lena for your informative videos. As someone who is starting up with the oil medium, your videos and tutorials help a lot. also your work is amazing.
For people who want to be able to draw/paint eyes or irises in particular very realistically without any references, try to think of the iris as a caldera covered in tangled little organic strings. The iris looked so complicated and impossible to replicate in simple shapes and forms, but as I understood the structure and realised that was the reason for why the lighting hits it that way. This was a good exercise and it really helped me looking at this from my own perspective, since no one really explained the true simplicity of the iris that way. Hopefully you know the basics about lighting, shadows, undertones and such as well.
Wonderful to watch and informative, as always. If you make another one of these, might I suggest a video on lips? I have the worst time getting a good color for them in relation to the rest of the face. They either look like the person is wearing makeup or they look dead. Any tips would be appreciated. Have a lovely day!
Thank you a lot for making this video!! I was making a eye painting but my eyes were like a doll's. your tips are price less for me and love the way you explain each and everything!!!! your are the painting goddess for me as you upload the video telling the things I'm confused with!!!!
Hi Lena I'm new to your channel and I'm also new at oil painting. I love your works you are so very talented. I'm learning to paint by following your tutorials
Every time when I see a video of your work it gives me an even bigger urge to start with oil paints, sadly I don't have the time nor money (but I will have it... some day) Your work is so amazing and talented though, you really inspire me
Its quite nice to see how you are painting details and a part of the body in a separate video. It would have been cool to see how you paint lips as well. I personally find lips one of the hardest "parts" of the face too paint/draw. I really find your videos inspiring :D
thank you for sharing this, it really helped me alot! im still trying to figure out and get used to oil painting but this made it look easier or manageable. you're definitely one of my fave artists! love ur works so much ❤
Sometimes it's not that folks can't do what you are showing & explaining ...actually I believe so many people are MORE than capable of doing this kind of work, it is that life has its stresses & strains & many factors that are beyond one's control. Then of course there is the decisive expression to simplify...reasons are tough to explain ...I find even as an artist & individual I forget, even with journals, ...seasons change & so rapidly these days. All that said thank you sincerely Lena it wasn't wasted time in the least & refer to my former comment.
for art class in school we are doing some stuff in the theme of the paris salon, so really realistic painting and I find that really hard to do but this might help me a bit
Wow, this was like a lesson on how to see... I've started painting with acrylics and have found it really hard to find the right color for skin tones, and this tutorial has been very helpful :-)
Thanks for the great tutorial. I couldn't quite tell from the vid if you were switching up soft or stiff bristled brushes for different parts of the eye- can you expoumd on that a bit? Also, do you have a rough way of gauging quanitity of paint to load on your brush? I find for small details I'm often overloading and creating globs, or more often, underloading and don't have enough for a clean smooth stroke for say, an eyelash. I'm guessing it's just more practice, but curious if there is a tidbit you can share.
Wow that was awesome. That really opened my eyes. It was much more informational than i thought it would be. I got a lot out of that video. do you do any acrylic work?

About the underpainting, I actually have a tip/suggestion if thats alright: My painting teacher suggests to do the underpainting with a color that is the opposite "tempeture" of the pallette, so for example if your painting has more yellow/red tones than blue, you should use a blue/green etc for the underpainting. I love how she still able to demonstrate on how she did the lashes. even her camera died that time. Keep it up girl!
Oh my god! It actually looks like its coming right out of the paper! Very well done!! :)
The most thorough demonstration for painting eyes I have ever seen! Thank you!
Beautiful work. I don't know if it helps but the "blend" at the edge of the iris and the sclera is called the limbus. Great stuff!
great eye...love the hazel tint...which reminds me of my eye color...

you are so far the best teacher, thanks
Literally in awe watching this. Completely blown away that you have such an amazing eye (😏) for colour.. This is so so so amazing
I just stumbled upon your videos and I must say YESSS!! THANK YOUUU!!!! After not painting in so long and feeling so out of it with oil paintings and not knowing how to start again, I can say thank youuu!!
The cornea is not the whites of the eyes. The cornea is a protective later on top of the iris. The sclera is the white part of the eye
Yes there is an annotated correction of that error in the beginning of the video, if your annotations are turned off you're you're viewing on a phone it doesn't pop up :)
Lena Danya I'm going to try something very different and that is combining oil painting with a Japanese anime/manga style.
@@sonny12681 That's called semirealism

The white of the eye is called the sclera. The cornea covers the iris (color part of the eye. It's a really helpful video. Thank you.
Your art is amazing, great job on the eye, it came out great for me
Your talent is on another level 🔥🔥
Thanks for the great tutorial. I couldn't quite tell from the vid if you were switching up soft or stiff bristled brushes for different parts of the eye- can you expoumd on that a bit? Also, do you have a rough way of gauging quanitity of paint to load on your brush? I find for small details I'm often overloading and creating globs, or more often, underloading and don't have enough for a clean smooth stroke for say, an eyelash. I'm guessing it's just more practice, but curious if there is a tidbit you can share.
reference photo and you painting in the same screen would have been super. Great work!
after seeing this painting i just want to say you are just awesome
Can you please do a tutorial on how to paint either mouths, or hands?
What a painting you made! i love your paintings
That eye is just incredible!❤
Love when you give us the colors that your using!
you just earned yourself a new Subscriber Your so good at painting I can only paint lanscapes with acrylic paint on canvas
Wow that was awesome. That really opened my eyes. It was much more informational than i thought it would be. I got a lot out of that video.
do you do any acrylic work?
Hey Lena , I was wondering if you could do a video about where you get your inspiration from , love your art work x
Subscribed! You're videos are amazing! I just started painting this year and have become completely obsessed with it. I am currently using acrylics, which is becoming more and more frustrating as they dry so fast. Any tips on how to achieve these blending results with fast drying acrylics?
About the underpainting, I actually have a tip/suggestion if thats alright:
My painting teacher suggests to do the underpainting with a color that is the opposite "tempeture" of the pallette, so for example if your painting has more yellow/red tones than blue, you should use a blue/green etc for the underpainting.
(btw ur eyes r really pretty lena, mine are a dull black/brown lol)
She actually does that a lot in other paintings :)
You are so talented and very funny. I am taking art class right now and you were my inspiring light!!!!!!!👁👁👁👁💜💜
wow thats really awesome Lena.. you explained it pretty well
I LOVE your video "How to paint a realistic eye." What size brushes were you using? Your video really inspired me! Thank you so much.
I really love your paintings so much
I hope all is well, and life is good
I absolutely loved this video, some really good tips. Thank you so much I'm going to watch the other oil painting video as I've never used oil paints
