I got to know the game as a child living in a rural village in a relatively impoverished region of the country. I initially rented the game before my dad bought it for the SNES and I was both fascinated as well as subtly intimidated by the cold, metallic, urban, fast paced futuristic game play and graphics, which is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the ancient, oriental feel of the second and first games; the third game brought the gamers back to the Occident where the die-hard fans and the actors largely reside. Looking back in some ways it almost feels like the game was ahead of its time; if they only had the hardware to make it even faster and intense...they might not have done it because it could have become unplayable. So soon to be 27 years back they were already pushing the limits in my humble view and wrecking expectations. When I look back on that time in my childhood I'm always immediately reminded of the subway stage and perhaps the character of Kano. I also seem to have a memory of my dad going out or coming in after having a smoke and me venturing outdoors in the summer after playing the game in the mid 90's.
@3:42 I’m glad they kept the snares true to the Arcade sound for the Subway/Waterfront Stage as opposed to other versions of this tune with those metallic sounding snares lol.
The first Mortal Kombat game to include batshit crazy combos, thanks to Killer Instinct. Dan Forden manages to get us players pumped up with his badass bgm.

Joshua Padilla I recommend ultimate MK3 though, IDK about you And I hate to say it But in my opinion MK3 is the worst main line game in the MK series But Dan Forden (also know as the toasty guy), did an amazing job with this soundtrack If I was ranking the Top 10 best MK soundtracks This would diffidently be my number one (Also, im talking about the original MK3, Ultimate MK3 and MK Trilogy are way better than the original release)
I liked how Dan literally changed up everything in this game. He basically abandoned that Far East type music that he had for the last two games, and gave it a more modern but dark atmosphere that capsulated the storyline in Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. It gave it that incoming modern apocalyptic invasion upon Earth type feel. I think MK3/Ultimate MK3 has my favorite music in the entire Mortal Kombat franchise.
my childhood, i remember me obsessed with mk3 and use to sit at game parlour all day all night bunking my school, that my parents use to come and pick me up and at one point of time all game parlour banned me from even coming because my parents will create a big scene if they find me at their place. so many memories i will never forget till i die
The curch 😍🖤 freakin love it ... when mk used to be dark and kinda evil now it looks and plays beautiful but it lost its gore and evil side its to much super hero now days
Have you even played mk 11? Plenty of gore in that game, but I agree that it's lost it's dark and sinister edge that the older games had. I blame the developers who's idea it was to make Mortal Kombat vs DC.
The 90s was a awesome decade to grow up in I'm thankful I got to and I wouldn't trade it for anything

This OST is so mid 90's and is a testament to how freaking amazing this era was.
Reminds me of The Terminator
I concur
I agree to every single word.
Makes me think of the opening of the first Blade movie. What a time to be alive.
The Bridge ... Can't stop playing it..
Best song in the game. Sounded like it belongs in a '80s/'90s car chase action movie.

UMK3 is so relaxing and creepy at the same time, great OST even to work at the office

i love how sinister how heavy and how creepy the music can be and the vibes it gives off with certains levels and their stages !
The best player select theme ever, the church choir is really creepy, the soundtrack fits perfectly to the proposal of the game sequel.
Yes, exactly. Very haunting. Amazing track.

I think he's just working as senior audio lead but I don't think he's composing.
I can't stop replaying the song from the introduction of the prologue
Flawless victory fatality
So ominous, creepy....

Its even better once you realize that its actually a remix of MK1's Courtyard theme, the bass literally gives it away.
New Jack swing music was big in the 90s?

The Character Select theme from MK3 is the best from the classic games. It has the right amount of bass and synths to give it a deadly feel!

2) Soul Chamber
3) The Bank / Shao Khan's Cave
