The new Mortal Kombat games need to have this kind of music. This music has the dark tone of Mortal Kombat accompanied by the fast-paced drums of traditional martial arts. The mk11 and mkx stage tracks are freaking weird.
I dunno. Kinda like the orchestral feel of MK11. Feels like a triumphant end to a long battle. Of course I love Dan Fordan's scores, but the newer artists aren't bad either.
I think in my opinion. Mortal kombat 3/trilogy has a darker sound to it. The character select and tower select have creepy vibes. I love both MK3 and MK4 soundtracks!!!!!

I remember when I first saw MK 2 at my friend's house when it dropped on SNES way back in 94. I had the same feeling towards that one, as you did with MK 4. It was the music and Shao Khan's voice that got to me.
True, I loved MK4 but it had a dark and scary vibe to it. I remember the music was kinda creepy and also when I won it for the first time I was kinda scared withe the misterious guy from the end credits above Ed Boon and John Tobias , who was in the shadows and there was a HA! sound when he appeared. Also the opening looked so realistic and creepy

It's so energetic yet creepy, and it just keeps building and building in suspense for its duration (even though it repeats like all tracks on cartridges must).
Yah, if you look closely you can see behind the fan there's the Prison of Souls panorama from MK Mythologies, so it's probably the same place, hence the same music.
I like how Dan went back to the dark traditional martial arts Far East style music that was in Mortal Kombat 1 and Mortal Kombat 2, and still kept the dark modern style that was in Mortal Kombat 3/Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 & MK Trilogy in this game.
I think this comment perfectly sums up why I like this game so much despite the aging visuals. That being said, I still wish an arcade perfect port could be released; I played the hell out of my PS1 copy when I was a child. Closest we've gotten graphically would be MK Gold, but the lack of polish and rushed extras take away from the experience imo. I prefer vanilla MK4
The distorted scream in the select your fighter menu is so classic MK, I think what I love most about Mortal Kombat is most series with far eastern elements portray it with wisdom mysticism grace and beauty, Mortal Kombat takes the more violent elements and puts them on display. Theres plenty of martial arts based on self defense that we all know (Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu) and then there are some more malicious ones entirely based on injuring and killing opponents and Mortal Kombat completely embodies that spirit.
As so-so as this game was, i think it has the best atmosphere of the MK series imo. MK11's soundtrack pales in comparison, the percussion and bass in this ost is so damn blood pumping. I didn't think it was possible to make a fighting game ost sound so limp and plain but MK11 proved me wrong. best song on that ost is Black Dragon Fight Club and thats about it tbh
Me and my brother used to play this hours and the elder gods/shaolin temple track makes me emotional, it reminds me of all those times we spent in the 90s. I still remember my mum was calling us for dinner and we were like "nope" 😅
Other MK games have standout Individual tracks but this Is the best soundtrack of the entire series as a whole. It just keeps blending complex extremely dark music all throughout the game , not as melodic but far darker and more exotic.
The elder gods/shaolin temple brings back so much nostalgia for me. Me and my cousin going at it with the classic sub zero vs scorpion battles. He was like two tiers above me so I rarely won, but damn this song brings me back. Rest peacefully cuz
Even though it’s only 15 Seconds The Victory Tune has always been my favorite music tune in MK4/Gold I would always look forward to hearing it every time I beat the game Goros Lair, Elder Gods Temple, and the Character Selection screen theme are amazing as well these are all of my favorites The entire sound track is awesome
I don't know the 4th Mortal Kombat too much aside being the first 3D game. I've seen and played the N64 version once. But, it seems to have a decent soundtrack, I will say. I always love the Fatality music, though!
NRS should take a note from capcom when they made the classic RE2 sounds and score DLC for the RE2 remake. Maybe not necessarily as DLC but in any shape or form I’d love to use the MK4 soundtrack in MK11 or a future MK game.

The Well will always be my favorite, it sounds like a martial arts movie soundtrack Mortal Kombat needs this kind of soundtrack, the newer ones lack emotion and rush, unlike this one.
The soundtrack and visuals of MK4 make me consider it a true sequel to MK2 than MK3. In fact according to my headcanon 2 and 3 happen back to back and 4 takes a bit longer to occur.

I feel like Forden must have had some problem cmposing this ost, either not enough memory or time as theres something underbaked about the tracks. They loop far too quickly and lack the structure of his previous work.
I may be a huge Mortal Kombat fan, but I personally didn't like MK4. The only two things I like about the game are the soundtrack and the fmvs for each character.
