I thought thay were just happy that there is only 3 characters playable, only the GOOD characters, not the shitty bunch created afterward.
*+xenotypos* I would not have minded Amy since she existed back then and it would've been a cool 2D playable classic debut for her.
Actually if they ever make Sonic Mania 2 I think Amy would be a great choice for a fourth playable character. She's a character that debuted before Sonic 3 even did - can't get much more classic than that! I would love to see her classic look remade in Mania style, as well.
There's so much potential bringing back old Sonic characters .. Ray, Mighty, Charmy, Vector, Espio, Bean, Bark, Nack .. if you really wanna stretch it, there's also Sally, Bunnie, and Rotor/Boomer who appeared in Sonic CD! I just think it's so cool how much possibility there is there. :)
I think you're being a bit too harsh on new Sonic design too xeno - there are characters that I think fit quite well into the universe like Cream in Sonic Advance or Blaze in Sonic Rush. Of course there are some really awful designs like Big the Cat or Silver too.

Yes because he's the one who started it all. He presented a demo of Sonic Mania to Sega and they approved :)
You are correct, but it wasn't simply a good demo that made Sega approve the game. It all started way back in 2009 with Whitehead presenting a proof-of-concept for Sonic CD port on iPhone to SEGA. The successful ports of CD, S1 and S2 were a good enough proof for SEGA to greenlight his all-new project.

That was what amazed me in this video. How happy those guys were to know Christian Whitehead, who was once just a fellow fan and gamer like everyone there, and that Sega trusted him, who at this point had a very well earned fame in the community, with this project. Nintendo surely could learn a thing or two from Sega.

They skipped from Sonic Heroes to Sonic Colors, because they didn't want us to think of the bad times.
Then again.... they showed Sonic 3d Blast and Sonic R.
Nightfall Hey, Unleashed was pretty good. The werehog was a bit irritating, but other than that, it was a pretty great game.

I remembering being familiar with Christian Whitehead from the sonic retro blog, it’s crazy to see him get so much success. I’m very proud.
It's 'cuz Christian whitehead is one of the best sonic fan out there he even remastered the sonic 1,2,CD, games.
2017 is gonna be such a good year for Sonic.

Crying while rewatching this. For me, this was the best announcement SEGA ever made, and I'm still emotional remembering the feeling I had discovering the trailer. I was at home, but with every fan watching live at the same time it was like I was in a huge crowd cheering. I'm so glad we got a chance to play Sonic in 2D again. I hope we can enjoy it again soon.

I can't correctly describe how emotional this reveal makes me. The crowd getting excited, the brilliant music by Hyper Potions, that one guy at 0:25 who says "GO BACK!" and lastly the great reveal. It like the culmination of 20+ years of waiting for a sequel to your favorite video game peaked right there in that room. Sonic Mania is a true love letter to Sonic and it's fans, it's a miracle that it exists, and I still appreciate it so much all these years later.
I cried for years ago when I first saw this, 4 years later still crying because of this masterpiece

***** meh or terrible? Sonic Generations was terrible? Colours? Fire&Ice? Lost World its not perfect but was pretty decent. The only terrible Sonic games are Sonic 2006 and the first Boom, and its because they are unfinished not because they are actually bad.

I'm surprised nobody noticed that they're doing what they did for the 15 anniversary. Sonic 2017 is a game that shows the future for sonic while Sonic Mania is at the older days of sonic. only this time its better.

Even if shadow the hedgehog was flawed, it still had some enjoyable elements that made it a good standalone title for shadow. I personally enjoyed it because it was almost completely different from any sonic game there was and had some neat mechanics, and it also gave some interesting character development for shadow. Alright that’s all I had to say have a good one y’all.✌🏻

Hard to believe that Sega for Sonic 30th anniversary didn’t follow up with a Sonic Mania sequel. The most successful highly rated Sonic game since Adventure. That company is lost. I will never forget those days of Mania’s release, it was all about Sonic all over again. In fact for a large majority of people it was the game of the year.

I loved listening to their reaction to everything in the trailer and all the 'Ooooh~'s of glory when showing Mania's new stages and tricks. I cried, it was so beautiful. here we are in 2021, the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, and I still think there's nothing better than seeing people cheer for a character so many of us grew up with and are passionate about. This blue little hedgehog truly is something special.
5 years later and rewatching this I got hyped and had goosebumps from the crowd reaction.

This reaction makes me emotional and very happy. I don't remember when was the last time Sonic fans were this excited. This game brought joy to a lot of people including me, I'm happy it exists. I hope we get more great games like Sonic Mania in the future.
