- uncomfortable truth - lip fillers don't make you look prettier.
we’ve been sold the lie that small or thin lips are ugly. and that if we want to look pretty, we need to get big lips, whatever it takes. look at kylie jenner! the cast of basically any reality show ever, and basically every influencer or celebrity ever! they’ve all got lip fillers. lip fillers have been so normalised, that people get them as often as they cut their hair. grab a cappuccino, get some lip filler. it’s no big thing right? WRONG. lip filler can have some nasty side effects, and yet these aren’t really being spoken about. and besides that point, we’re not all SUPPOSED to have big lips. while big lips look amazing on those who have them naturally, big lips don’t necessarily suit everyone. not to mention the over filled lip craze - wtf is that all about?
repeat after me: bigger isn’t always better. and lip fillers have a dark truth that most people don’t know about. its time to UN-normalise lip filler, and embrace our natural lips. our bodies are intelligent things, and our lip shape (generally speaking) is a reflection of our unique heritage and ancestry. so if the beauty standards have got you feeling like you're not good enough, or not pretty enough, or like you need to change something about yourself to fit in - take a look at your own ancestry. it might just change the way you see yourself.

When I was a kid, like 9 or 10, I was DETERMINED to have liposuction, a BBL, and lip filler when I grew up. And I'm so happy I never went through with it.

I finally had lipo on my upper & lower abdomen when I was 33 to get rid of the genetic pooch I inherited from my grandma. Even at age 16, 5'2", 105 pounds, I was thin everywhere except my stomach. 🤨
It was the single most painful thing I have ever experienced. And the surgeon scraped nice little ripples in my stomach. I wish I had never gotten liposuction. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Most traumatic thing I've ever voluntarily done to my bod. I'm 60 & love my body, fat, ripples, jowls, & all. Know that you made the right choice.❤

I think one of my biggest issues with these procedures is that women are all kind of starting to look the same. It’s weird. I think individuality and uniqueness are really beautiful, personally.

Tho I don’t even feel like skinny skinny is back in I feel like they just realized how ridiculously exaggerated they looked and decided to tone it down. If anything this is more accurate to what Kylie’s natural body would be like if she never got it surgically altered. She had a slim, athletic build, and was generally thin. I think Kim had a weird epiphany when she put on Marilyn’s dress and it didn’t fit her, maybe she realized how overboard she went when the poster girl for curvy bodies was way thinner and more naturally built than her. Marilyn is proof that we don’t need huge boobs/butts/tiny waists to be curvy and beautiful. And we don’t need to be super slim and have flat stomachs either. It’s why I find her so interesting.
The worst is it only looks nice with make up and certain camera shots and lighting. In person looks like something's really wrong. And hell, it is 💀

@@kaylathompson2111 Unless you get very little injected, the fillers will cancel many natural lip wrinkles and you can tell irl.
The bigger and more full the natural lips are, the more specific wrinkles will show up, it's just how the skin texture of the mouth area works. Unnaturally full lips don't have that, on the contrary they take away wrinkles, trust me you can tell very easily irl, especially when the person speaks.

as someone who is on the road of recovery, my nr 1 tip is to feed your brain the "correct" info..!! try to actively choose take a content break from people that make you feel bad about yourself and try to incorporate more bodyneutrality people! use the "not interested in this content" feature that is available on most apps to "fix" your algorithm if needed!!

Bone corsets weren't for looking skinny, they were for boob support. Once bras were invented corsets were out. Yes a handful of women would tighten them to stupid degrees, but the average woman didn't. Even now corsets are still amazing for back support and a smooth figure.
@@FreePigeon No, corsets were never for health reasons, which is obvious from how the silhouettes changed every few years with new fashion trends. Look at the unnatural S-shaped corset of the 1880s for the so-called “New Figure” vs previous corsets (restrictive but upright) and later corsets (less restrictive, more natural silhouette).
I really think that women who talking about "crazy old beauty standards" in our modern day society where almost every influencer is a living promotion for plastic surgery (sometimes a deadly one like BBL) are coping

These treatments have a limit, and if you start young, more times you have to go and get the treatment again cause skin of the face drops with time and fillers migrate to other parts of the face. She is not going to loke good in the future, and she will fell miserable.

So many moms on the school run have their lips done. You can see their lips and lashes coming a mile off. They look horrific, they migrate, over filled duck lips, I look at their pictures and they look nothing like them in real life. They can look OK in pictures posing front profile. But side profile? Lip filler looks horrible. Please don't. ❤

I genuinely wonder where the line is between 'if you do it, do it for yourself and not others' and buckling due to societal manipulation. Even if you change your face "for yourself", the root problem is still linked to how everyone else perceives you. You feel bad about your appearance for a reason. Even Kylie did. I have naturally big lips, and I remember getting made fun of for it when I was a kid. I hated them, but my mom and teachers would tell me “people pay good money for lips like yours.” I thought it was BS at the time, but omg they weren’t kidding.

I'm blasian, and even though I'm guilty of snapping back at mean white girls by saying they have "no lips" I honestly have to take that back. I don't want to be part of the problem. I think Caucasian features are just as beautiful as African or Asian features. Big and small lips look equally beautiful if you have healthy and balanced looking features, and I want young girls of all races to be able to appreciate their natural beauty. Also, there is more value to being a woman than just being beautiful.

I'm 37, I've never had any cosmetic procedures. I've only dyed my hair 5 times in my 20's. I'll say I contemplated a few procedures in the past but I always talked myself out of it. Very happy to this day I talked myself out of all those ideas.
I took good care of myself and my skin. Sunblock is key. Find outfits that compliment your body and work with what you have.

Me and my best friend when i was 18 used to give each other confidence boosts all the time. She had the sexy big lips and the curvy figure, i had the big eyes and the flat stomach. She became less conscious of her 'podgy figure' and i became less ashamed of my flat chest. We felt beautiful and confident. Women should celebrate each other!

Yesss this is so sad and unfortunately i can relate because in 2016(wow its been 7 years) i had 1ml only on my top lip once and it hasnt moved even a little its all there… and its so bad and uneven asymmetrical bumps and when i smile one of my front tooth looks smaller so i dont feel comfortable smiling anymore😭😭😭and i wore braces 5 years.. and for what to hide my smile again..😭 and im afraid of huyluronadise i wish i find a solution to get my pretty smile again 🙏amen. I have injections and I'm happy with them however when I had my very thin natural lips that I hated and felt extremely insecure about I'd fake smile in pictures because I thought they only looked bearable when I smiled. Now I don't feel the need to fake a smile anymore and I can focus on other things than being anxious about my looks. I don't believe I'm the only one.
I absolutely love my thin lips. I hate lip fillers. Everyone seems to want to look like carbon copies of each other. I wish women out there wouldn't follow trends and ignore the pressures of society. Screw that. I will never get my lips filled x

“Can” is VERY different of “will”. I’m from Brazil and almost everyone here has got procedures done (different from Americans we never deny what we have got done) and I never heard of someone getting necrosis from fillers. Never! So, it can happen I guess. As you can also get struck by a lightning too. As unlikely.

Yes my god I needed that video! Thank you! I was thinking about the lip filler topic before and I even googled it, if there is really science claiming bigger lips are just generally more attractive or feminine. And some kind of halfway or pseudoscience so often claimed yes it’s feminine. I was skeptical because it doesn’t make sense to me why nordic women just tend to have smaller lips. Of course with the cold climate it makes perfect sense. I think both types of lips can be beautiful and I just feel that lip filler lips always look fake and I just never liked the idea of looking fake. Probably in a few years the trend will change again just like with the figure. The good thing about this trend is that some girls who were bullied for having big lips now know that there is beauty in their lips ❤

Wow, I didn't know how much I needed this video. I like my face, but sometimes I see other people with larger lips and get upset because mine are maybe like a regular size, and they aren't very full when I smile. But seeing all these horrifying pictures of the procedures gone wrong and the last part where you explained the genetics and functionality of the body parts really, REALLY made me appreciate and LOVE my face more. Seriously.
It's absolutely crazy to me that so many people get random substances injected into their body. It grosses me out. I understand why many do it and I'm not judging them. It's their choice. But for me personally it's very scary. I have many things I'm insecure about but I personally could never do any cosmetic procedure unless medically necessary. It's scary shit

I’m an esthetician, practicing for 20yrs and I’ve never seen so much cosmetic enhancements/procedures being done on so many young girls in high school and college. It’s obvious looking and ages them. I try to explain the damage and complications with lip filler but they don’t care. 🤷🏻♀️
Ya I feel like doing it so young is a big mistake. I know people who got a small amount in their thirties who love it because they didn’t go overboard with it but when you’re young you tend to make decisions without consideration first. Usually doesn’t turn out well.
I had one tell me that botox was anti aging. I never heard any plastic surgeon or doctor confirm this though.

@@9395gbits not anti aging. It prevents muscle movement so that it doesn’t create wrinkles. Botox os preventative, but you’re still injecting a foreign substance to your body tho so people can still get side effects from it.

When I was young I use to be happy with my smaller lips. Never wanted them to be any bigger… it’s interesting that in the last 5 years I have gotten filler. Not much but just enough to plump them a little bit as I have become insecure of how small they were. Always been happy with my natural results but watching videos like this makes me realize I don’t need to waste my money! Ive essentially been brainwashed into feeling insecure about so many things!
It's never too late to go back and even stop following the crown. This is another fad, and it will pass.

im asian and was born with big lips and a flat nose and i've been so insecure about it. ive been wanting a nose job ever since i was 11 years old and only recently did i look up how to get smaller lips and stumbled on your video. when you described why different people have bigger lips or noses because of our ancestry it really helped me appreciate myself more. it made me actually be grateful for what i have because it all makes sense why we are born they way we are. i guess as humans, we are never happy in our own skin and i really wish to love myself and not compare to all the social media stars.

People assume I had a nose job but I was born with it. 🥰
I spent years in school getting spray tans because I’m a pale reed head and people were into tanning back then and would make fun of my skin. Now that I’m 30 and I know my heritage somewhat, I love my skin. I keep it pale. I don’t get spray tans anymore because they don’t look right on me. I protect my skin from the sun and I wear it proudly because this is all from my heritage from Scotland and England. And it’s meant to absorb as much sun as possible for the cooler climates
I also used to tan after getting made fun of for being pale my whole life, but after getting skin cancer at 30 I stopped. I have embraced my pale skin as well, but the kp I kept at bay by tanning has gotten much worse in my old age, but I remind myself that it could be much worse and make a choice to count the good and ignore the bad.❤❤❤

@@Ukie88I have heard that he uses henna/cassia mixture… as henna is a natural 💯 sunblock he is then able to stand in long hours in full sun during his events with out ANY sunburn. His mom was born in Scotland and he inherited her very light skin. I am same and have found henna/cassia is the only thing that stops sunburn. Notice he never ever has hyper pigmentation or sunburn.
The description of why people have smaller lips in colder climate made me feel so much better. So much more connected to my humanity. I am of mostly slavic descent and well... Eastern europe is a mostly cold place!! I also have severe body dysmorphia and often call myself "deformed" and "disabled looking" when in fact I am the opposite. My "undesirable" parts are intelligent design, adapted to where I live. Thank you SO much.

That’s what I don’t understand. How in the world do they look in the mirror and think all those injectables look good? Even when you look at Khloe, she looked so much prettier with her natural features. Now she can barely emote. All these people have frozen faces, and it isn’t healthy. Remember, people, aging is HEALTHY and normal. Dying young is not, nor is never physically emoting simply because you’ve overfilled your face and used too many neurotoxins. Just like too much filler can deform your face, overuse of neurotoxins can cause your facial muscles to atrophy due to lack of use.
I think we just see soooo much of it online that people genuinely start to find it pretty. I think it's kinda like fashion trends. Only, it's not like clothes you can just take off when you're done with them, this is YOUR BODY you're doing this too.

THANK YOU so much for this video. I have to say, even while being aware of the "brainwashing" that is going on out there with the beauty standards, I previously did consider getting a little bit of lip filler once or twice just to "enhance" my natural lip shape. Thanks god I never had the money for it and thanks god your doing such great work of exposing the truth behind it. This is something which is rarely mentioned by anyone - cause of course, it would be bad for the industry that makes money out of those trends. Personally, the fact that those filler never really dissolve ever again, but wander in your body, made me even more relieved to have never get some. Your work is so eyeopening and important!

I am tellllling you the thing about filler never dissolving is a FACT … I got a little bit of lip filler when I was 25, and it was a little lumpy, my boyfriend was not a fan of the look, and it hurt a lot, so I never got more filler. I’m now about to turn 30, and there is still definitely some filler/scar tissue in there to this day. It doesn’t look bad, but my lips are forever changed
There are videos on RUclips showing CAT scans off women with migrated filler 12 years after they had it placed. I totally believe you!
I did 2cc in 2017, and even though it got smaller really fast, it never got to how it was before. They definitely dont dissolve as announced
Not true I got mine done about 5 years ago and never got them dissolved. My lip filler is all gone.

if your lower lip is larger than your upper lip, it means that you are an ideal among the ancient Greeks (they have excellent taste when it comes to natural beauty). The upper small lips, which are shaped like a mountain of a heart, add charm to the lips. Small lips add charm and enhance facial features!
That's also an ideal I many African countries!
BTW, HA filler doesn't always completely dissappear. Make sure to check if it hasn't just migrated and what can be done
As someone with small lips, all I can say is embrace your "imperfections". We're all made to look different and unique and this trend of everyone getting the same procedures to look the same only creates boring visuals. I'm a huge fan of all the features that make our faces interesting and beautiful, be small lips or big noses.
I want to know what went on inside Kylie Jenner's mind when she thought people would believe her huge lips were the result of lip liner… like how insulting is that 😂 unfortunately many young, teen girls who don't know any better did fall for her BS and Jenner decided to exploit their naivety by selling her awful lip products. I also couldn't believe it when she went on about how she was "releaved Stormi had big lips", what a feral thing to think about your own child, what if she inherited Kylie's lip? Can you imagine how Kylie's insecurities would've been pushed on to her?

Teach them to value what has meaning and is true and isn't just an attribute they didn't earn and are naturally born with.
If you are actually beautiful, that's great.. you will face other challenges in life, like jealousy, a halo effect, being treated better than you may have earned because of ypur appearance.
The point is .. not everyone IS beautiful.. so to lie to kids isn't good either.

I get asked about mine, they're not even big, but if you have any lips now people assume they're fake. I've got a prominent philtrum, so think it's that. My brothers have very large lips and never get asked, it's being female.
Big lips only become popular when they think they are real on white women. Now let's talk about that. The trend changed when everyone was saying they're real. Same with Kim and her bbl. I was an idiot who hated my nose and got rhinoplasty. Worst thing I ever did. Didn’t give me the nose I wanted and the doc cut the muscle between my upper lip and nose so now my smile is completely gone. The upper lip stays flat and makes it look odd. If you look at Jennifer Aniston or Carrie Underwood, when they were younger compared to now, their smiles are like that too. It just looks unnatural. Wish it was something I never did!!

I have average sized lips and this trend doesn’t work on everyone. It was meant for older women who lost volume in their lips and want some back (like my roommate, and it looks good on her but it’s very painful and expensive). But if you’re in your teens or 20’s and worried about your lips being too thin, your lips are perfect the way they are! In the 00’s thin lips were in and all the emo girls had them and they looked cute. ❤
I was thinking of getting some for assymetry but I changed my mind too risky
So, now we know that lip fillers, like any injectable beauty treatment, comes with a note of caution. What about treatments like microneedling or (like what I get every other month) nano-needling over the lips? These treatments are intended to build collagen via tiny injuries to the skin, forcing the skin to rebuild its' own collagen, right?
Have any of you tried micro- or nano-needling to build fullness in your lips? Would these therapies be a safer alternative to injected fillers?
Note: Nano-needling is the same therapy as microneedling except the aesthetician doesn't penetrate the skin as deeply.
Also I get nano-needling over my entire face, neck and chest to help rebuild collagen since I'm aged 41. I've had it done a few times over my lips but I haven't done it consistently enough to see changes.

I've had my lips filled twice the last time was a year ago. I'm booked in for a top up later this week. I'm actually considering cancelling now. I think I look natural, I'm definitely not baboon lipped, but how do I even know if my self image is just distorted at this point, or what if this is the time it all goes wrong. IMO it also depends if people are conservative with the amount & if their goal is to make proportional. Like a few millimeters is enough.

If you did it twice you probably have at least 1 to 2 ml. That's enough sis don't overfill, don't get to 3-5ml

i was bullied for years for my thin lips, and i got lip filler once, but i’m at the point now where my fillers have faded and i realize that i love my natural lips. i think natural lips always look better than puffed out lips.

I am a thin lipped Queen 👑. There was a time in highschool that I felt super unattractive because of it, but honestly the biggest issue was my jaw positioning that was greatly improved through orthodontia. I was also blessed with a naturally prominent Cupid's bow, which also helps.

Kudos to you for doing this research...I could not. I almost got sick a few times from the pictures and videos of the lips and had to look away from the screen. I had upper jaw surgery in October to correct my bite (I still have to wear my braces for about 6 more months) and this grossed me out more than knowing what my that procedure was. Also, because of the surgery, my upper lip looks smaller and more bowed, but it also looks natural.

When I was in college I went skiing in California and my lips got sunburned. They looked like the botched surgeries shown and it was SO painful! NEVER do I want to go through that again!
a few days ago a girl from Austria died after getting lip fillers and having an extreme reaction. the parents are now suing the hospital that couldn‘t save her. the procedure was done by a beautician…

I have done lip filler twice but not to necessarily have larger lips. I'm 57 and a former smoker and I had a deep lip line on one side of my mouth. Basically, I just popped that wrinkle out without making my lips look crazy. On the other hand, I got talked into cheek filler and it was a disaster. It migrated and made me look so haggard. I ended up having it dissolved and I can attest, it will dissolve your natural tissue. I never had hollows under my eyes or through my cheek but now I do. They say it comes back but it's been a year and while it has improved some, it has not returned to normal. I seriously regret the cheek filler.

yeaaaah cheek filler has more disastrous effects than most filler. your buccal fat region gets absolutely weighed down with the filler, and the thing is, buccal fat already thins after 25 and then begins to sag over time. at 57, your buccal fat not only thinned out but sagged. adding to that with filler just made it sag more and faster, causing the remaining fat that kept your undereye fat lifted and puffy to sag, and then hollow out.
absolutely nobody should get cheek filler, ever, unless these are the desired results. lip filler is one thing (but if done "correctly" won't have effects), but cheek filler? entirely different world. cheek filler shouldnt even exist tbh. it looks bad on everyone.

At 46, I've heard about lip fillers for more than half my life. In 2000, it was one of the most asked for high school graduation gifts. As a young teacher at the time, this concerned me to the core. While I have thought of lip filler for myself in the past, it wasn't until I was closer to 40 that I was serious about it. I have a lot of allergies and now I'm completely against the idea. I’m a white girl that was born with big lips and the amount of teasing and harassment I went through as a kid at school in the 80’s was terrible. Back then the beauty standard was small lips. I hated my lips. Imagine being older now and everyone trying to get big lips. I may go parade around my big lips at my next high school reunion 😂😂😂.
Same here but I went to school in the 2000s, so I think a lot of my bullies were just insecure about their own lips. The beauty standard had changed mostly by then. My mum went to school in the 1980s though and she has naturally small/thin lips (I fully take after my dad) and she fit the beauty standard back then. As an older woman she has been told she needs fillers! Beauty standards change so I feel it’s never worth getting changing a natural feature (unless it’s extreme and destroying your confidence).
You had the black girl experience but probably without seeing you mum and aunties with those big lips looking beautiful so you could ignore the bullies easier

Thin lips are so beautiful I never understood why women would feel so bad about them. I used to watch many women on tv who had thin lips and they were thought of as the most beautiful. And a sharp red lip looked good on them too. But people keep taking the wrong examples to heart and in the mirror they no longer see how huge and uneven their lips are. You barely see anyone with non bumpy lips in hollywood anymore.
