    UAW workers ought to be worried that consumers may not buy EV cars from Stellantis. Canceling the production of the Dodge Challengers, Dodge Chargers, and Chrysler 300s should have been a warning that Stellantis may have nothing left to build and sell. No marketable product means no jobs, I would think.

    • @tonycharron73
      @tonycharron73 Год назад +5

      EVs won't need 40% less labor....the companies are outsourcing more of the subassembly work.
      In an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE a.k.a gas) vehicle, labor builds an engine, loads it to the vehicle along with a transmission, a gas tank, and an exhaust system.
      Those components are non-existent in an Electric Vehicle (EV). Instead, the are replaced by Front and Rear Electric Drive Motors (EDMs), a high volt battery pack, new electronic modules, HV wiring...etc) something like an EDM is now being purchased from places like China, where the ICE engine used to be assembled. Currently, companies are mostly choosing to build battery packs internally vs purchasing them from a supplier.
      A "40%" labor reduction is relative to what a company chooses to insource vs outsource. Outsourcing used to be cheaper, but things like logistics, quality, cost, timing are all factored in when deciding if outsourcing vs insuring labor gives the most bang for the buck.

    They want a 36% pay increase in the next 4 years. They are already one of the most overpaid non skilled jobs in America. The military doesn’t get that kind of raise. Right now the UAW should have a mass layoff until those thousands and thousands unfinished vehicles come off dirt lots onto dealerships lots and sell. What an embarrassing.

      @Vnexpress1203 Год назад +4

      Are you aware the 36% proposed pay increase only for small minority of seniority workers, it’s not for all 150k workers? Since 2006 the top tier workers have gotten $3 pay raise (17 years / $3 = ~.18/yr). 2010-current the inflation has gotten over 40% so the 36% pay increase only to keep up with inflation. Why arent you talking about ceos salary has gone up 40% over the last 4 years alone? These companies have gotten record profits, what’s the issue of demanding for a fair contract? Bottom line is record profit equals record contract!

They build more cars now with a fraction of the labor they once used. Each individual worker accounts for more productivity than ever, but does not enjoy the lifestyle of the previous generation. It is not a good trend in general for all working class people in these highly capitalistic western nations as wealth and power continues to consolidate towards the top, leading to an eventual top heavy collapse of society, culture and the environment.
