In this Old Time Rock & Roll guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play the chords and guitar solo for this massive hit by Bob Seger. The song was written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
Obviously, we are dealing with a piano driven song on this one. I have transcribed the blues based piano riffs for the guitar. Besides the instantly recognizable intro, the chord progression says the same throughout the entire track.
Throughout the song, the are many guitar fills. I won't be covering those but I will be covering the main guitar solo note-for-note. The solo is played by blues guitarist Howie McDonald.

So bizarre...quick story: I've loved this song since it came out, but it never occurred to me to play it for whatever reason. But 2 days ago it was on the radio while driving and it rocked my socks off as always...which led me to watch some dude on YT do an amazing acoustic cover, and when I got home I figured it out b/c it's easy, minus the solo. Just now I came to Carl's channel, b/c after being recommended Marty's lesson on River's Rising by Slash this morning, Marty didn't show the solo - as usual. So I thought, "Carl digs Slash, and he always teaches the complete song w/the solos - let me check" And sure enough, not only did I find Carl's complete River's Rising lesson (which is amazing), but I see that he just so happened to have done this song a week or so ago, and....yep! He teaches the solo, so now I can learn and play both songs completely. THANK YOU CARL, YOU ARE A MASTER. (And perhaps a mind reader??)

0:12 - complete newbie here - what did you do that adds the reverb effect (I'm not even sure if I'm using the right terminology). I want to make sure I buy the right equipment (first time buyer).
