    I am 65 years old. I started practicing yoga when I was 63. I am not the most flexible but I am amazed at what I am able to do and I have changed my mindset on what I am not able to do. For me it is the process that is giving me the confidence to practice yoga. I love it. You are so right. ❤

    I relate 100%. Through my yoga practice I learnt to be more indulgent then grateful to myself. I am happy with what my body is capable to do today. I try not to wait for a specific improvement, I am just thrilled to see an evolution and sometimes it simply stands in feeling more comfy in a posture. Thank you Charlie for your amazing videos.

    I enrolled to yoga class for the first time 10+ years ago. Starting of as the youngest and least flexible in the class. 6 months later I improved immensely (could touch the ground while standling with strength legs, 30 cm lower than the first try) but was still the least flixible one. 10 years later, wandering around many yoga studios due to different circumstance in life, still always the proud least flexible one. 😊

    What people don't understand is that yoga is anything but doing crazy poses. I am an Indian and literally born into yoga. Been doing it myself since childhood but I still don't perform the crazy ones.

  • @Ydce1891
    @Ydce1891 5 месяцев назад

    One thing that I find to be so important but not often discussed is how your proportions can affect your ability to do poses or if they make it more challenging. Yoga is much easier for people who have longer arms and shorter legs than it is for people with longer legs than arms. If you are starting out and hav longer legs than arms , a block and strap will come in so handy until you build the strength and flexibility to hold poses.
    I’m 6’ tall woman and my legs are longer which made yoga challenging at first but over time and with using the right props I was able to overcome. It’s so much better to let the props help you. I notice many students are hesitant to try props so I incorporate them into my classes and give options to advance in the pose. Yoga is amazing and it’s so interesting to learn about how your body plays into your practice

    Oh. And I love the way you explain and encourage. Not like … oh you can do it. Just modify it!! No. Modify it and get to this! You will get here! Just let the torturous poses readjust your body. Stick with it. Yoga is mind over body most times. Mind in control. The mind will give up before the body. Strength in mind is most important in my mind. Hold through the pain. Don’t be afraid to wobble. I love that I can see your muscles shake. And you wobble and don’t acknowledge just keep going

    I got really really flexible again after gymnastics early childhood til age 9. Kept practicing stretch and tumbling til my first pregnancy at 28. I bounced back…. Into addiction. Off and on relapse. Now 5 years clean. Two more pregnancies. I was overweight after super swelling. My feet were mangled from the weight and previous injuries. Anyways I have comically small feet and super short legs- I’m 5’7” and my legs are as long as most people 5’0” - 5’3”. I’ve measured 😳. My arms and shoulder are very long. Very broad and my hands are big like a man’s. Great for crow and chair pose. I have no problem bending my knee and grabbing my short little foot in pigeon. But getting my leg up over my shoulder feels IMPOSSIBLE.
    You make yoga so fun and interesting. A CHALLENGE for my brain and my body. I’m flexible and caught up QUICKLY since march. Dropped 60 pounds. And now I am hungry for more!! I’m so glad I found you. Thank you. You have a closer body type to me than other teachers. But I have much broader shoulders. It makes me feel better to see a small woman with shorter legs showing me how to move my body around with grace and intention. I’m excited to dig into your videos

    and most importantly get a yoga instructor who'd correct your poses and would also suggest different versions of poses depending on your advancement in yoga. Take at least 3-10 private or nearly private lessons in order to avoid mistakes and destroying your body.

    Thanks but one caveat: Yes to patience, confidence, self-valuing and persistence! Thanks! Every body with or without physicals limitations can practice and benefit from yoga--with suitable modifications if and as needed It is possoble injure oneself. To avoid potential damage to joint tissues while learning, one should be careful where postures feel unnatural or borderline torturous--is it mental pain of making effort or a physical cue signaling potential injury? To progress in a way that is sustainable any body can make great progress over time using progressively modified postures where needed, and it's always good to find good instruction v-a-v skeletal alignment and joint stability.

    Not every yoga pose is made for every body. Some people will never be able to do certain poses and that is ok. Never force it. You should feel the tension of the muscles stretching but it should never be painful.

    • @malieyesart
      @malieyesart 8 месяцев назад

      you are absolutely right! yoga in the west is body obsessed. traditional yoga is zero pain and no physical effort. so if someone practices western "yoga" (hurts to call it yoga) its for sure not for every body type and some can get hurt even. it will not be possible to do certain poses even with consistent training. but if a person with physical difficulties will practice traditional yoga, with time (alot of time) the body will feel like a miracle (not only the body), and it will be possible to do anything. traditional yoga is a spiritual and meditative practice. moving slow, soft transitions between poses, not streching harshly or at all, focusing on breathing in the first priority and feeling relaxed. its about healing the body, mind and soul. in traditional yoga everything is possible. it just takes alot of time, and its not a bad thing, the more time the more you experience the magickal journey. so unfortunately most people dont know the difference between westren "yoga" and traditional yoga. westren yoga is not for everyone at all!!

    After 11 years of practicing yoga my advice is to put the time in. It doesn't need to be vinyasa everyday. Do restorative or yin when your tired but do it everyday. While I think best practice is 2 hrs a day no one has time for that in our current society so put all the time that you can spare in

    From this point of view, the main aim of practicing yoga is to be able to take particular poses. But it is poses, that are supposed to make your body strong and healthy. It is poses for body, not the body for poses.
