1996 is truly great year, at that year 2 legendary album Morningrise and Crimson by Edge of Sanity is release album that make great changes to whole metal scene inspired many and in those two album involved two great musician Dan Swano and Mikael Akerfeldt . i hope some day two of them can teamed up again and make another masterpiece
Thank you Opeth for being as amazing as you are and always will be . You Have been in my background for years and will always be there .. esp during a snow fall .
I love R & B, but I am also an Opeth fan. I like different Genres of music. Just because you like one form of music, doesn't mean you should insult another. I have all of Opeth albums, and listen to them frequently, along with Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind, and Fire. I nearly all of their albums as well. Nothing wrong with a little variety
Wulfe from Guitar Hero introduced me to this song, and this began my relationship with my favorite band Opeth. It also turned me on to heavier growly forms of music in general. And now, with my love of the literary gothic, I appreciate some of Opeth's qualities even more.
Such an incredible song possibly the greatest I've ever heard so far and maybe ever. The transitions between hard and soft and the gray bleak atmosphere it presents somehow is lush with captivating music throughout, and the focus on making the different sections' moods give you that real feeling of dark and light, good and evil which makes this song unrivaled.
i fucking love that acoustic riff at the start of the video, man i love their stuff, they are so goddamn talented and all their stuff always sounds so good without a doubt
opeth's music will never grow old...on the contrary people now start understanding the beauty of this music...most of them with their ''closed'' minded perception of things cant realise this yet
i went through that. A couple of years ago my some old friends told me about Opeth and i was like, "nah that classical shit isnt my thing." now i love opeth. They are amazing live, amazing musicians, i just hope they keep doing what they do.
well...I dont mind make them famous..I just want Akerfeldt keep on doing what hes doing so many years too well...keep us under the weeping moon..a mastermind in.. Art I would say..may all the people who feel find something like that ..like Opeth is for us..
I notice they're more along the classical vein in timing (as in right atop or slightly anticipatory / ahead of beat). Very nice. I tend to play with a funk feel, even in metal (being a bassist) and go deep in pocket behind the beat. These guys are right on in time. Like a watch.
@VeNoMzX1 Possibly the best outro in dark metal, it never fails to send chills down me whenever I listen to it. Adding the echo effect to the end melody (very haunting) and dimming out the drums and bass in advance makes it perfect. I'd like to see Zbigniew Preisner do that.
I thoroughly enjoy this band listening to them you never know when the song will go to a turn in sound from light to heavy or heavy to light these guys can play some shit.
yep this is ovwer 20mins long...thats roughly the length of most of the earlier stuff was, supported them on there first every UK date Promoing their first album ORCHID at the white horse High wycombe with scarabaus and 3sm...have been listening ever since how all albums great band and great music
5:19 .. has to be the most beautiful riff i've ever heard in my life

This part of the song is truly truly incredible. It builds so perfectly and climaxes with the most epic guitar work I've ever heard.
Wulfe from Guitar Hero introduced me to this song, and this began my relationship with my favorite band Opeth. It also turned me on to heavier growly forms of music in general. And now, with my love of the literary gothic, I appreciate some of Opeth's qualities even more.

I can't even express the awesomeness that is Opeth!
i like how they play acoustically, and then the same part again, but with electric guitars
i went through that. A couple of years ago my some old friends told me about Opeth and i was like, "nah that classical shit isnt my thing." now i love opeth. They are amazing live, amazing musicians, i just hope they keep doing what they do.

Musical genius !!!
No, Doomedlight, words can not explain how awesome Opeth WAS.
Geez I love that Euphoric European folk music sound combined with the death metal influence.
well...I dont mind make them famous..I just want Akerfeldt keep on doing what hes doing so many years too well...keep us under the weeping moon..a mastermind in.. Art I would say..may all the people who feel find something like that ..like Opeth is for us..
The beginning of this second part is about to make me cry. I guess that is 'cause of the situation I'm living.
I notice they're more along the classical vein in timing (as in right atop or slightly anticipatory / ahead of beat). Very nice. I tend to play with a funk feel, even in metal (being a bassist) and go deep in pocket behind the beat. These guys are right on in time. Like a watch.
same with me...gotta love it
opeth will enver win a grammy award. thank god

I'd like to see Zbigniew Preisner do that.

@StealerAG Its a beautiful part indeed, one my favourite Opeth acoustic moments.
wow man that sounds like something you gotta-do-before-you're-dead
Some say that Opeth is the modern Iron Maiden. I kind of want to agree with that. Both very good bands.
I usually can't stand growlig, but some of this growling was pretty good

That outro. That OUTRO!
Yeah, probably the best riff in the song. The song overall is absolutely badass too - I can play most of it on guitar :)
