  • Cedar Fair has selfishly demolished the Big Dipper at Geauga Lake which was designed by John Miller and built in 1925. The world's 10th oldest coaster and an ACE Coaster Landmark. Cedar Fair will never be supported by us as a result.

    First off I want to say that it is very sad that the big sipper has been tore down. Now for the reality check. If you reached out to other parks outside of the Cedar Fair group and no one wanted it, no one showed any interest in it, there must have been issues with the coaster. Cedar Fair did move coasters from Geauga Lake to other locations within the chain. If the Big Dipper was worth a move and restore, they would have done it. Due to the fact that at the time Cedar Fair thought they had the land the coaster was sitting on was sold to Meijer, what they did was their only choice. In about 10 to 15 years once you have discovered women, gotten married, and have had a kid or two, and your love of coasters is not as strong as it is today, you will see that it is sad it was tore down but that is not as bad as you think it is today. Just remember that it is nothing more than wood, steel, and memories. Just like no one can take away my memories of seeing the Beatles live back in 1966, no one can take away your memories of riding the coaster. You will always be able to share those memories with your kids and grand kids.

    Should have done a fundraiser to get the money to move it out of the park. I myself love coasters and hate seen them being ignored. But if ACE really wanted to save the coaster and move to another park. They should have done everything in preventing this to happen.

    I understand that you guys will never forgive Cedar Fair for not letting you take the historic coaster and demolishing it, they are not the only ones who ignored you, even the township of Bainbridge Township, and the city of Aurora which the former park was located in between, and they just let it happen!

    Cedar Point should have restored Geauga Lake once they purchased it. It could have been back to it's original small park glory just like Kennywood Park in PA.

    • @horsesboy
      @horsesboy 7 лет назад +9

      They were able to purchase it from Six Flags when Six Flags was in financial trouble. Shortly after buying it they started slowly shipping rides away to other parks hurting it's attendance. Cedar Point is located relatively close and it has long been believed by many that CF bought the park to kill it off and remove the competition for their flagship park.

      I hope geauga lake reopens when it it reopens it should be owned by six flags because it would be close to the north west territory and we need a six flags park in Ohio

    • @angiearbogast5424
      @angiearbogast5424 3 года назад

      Geauga Lake was bought by Six Flags. Across the lake used to sit Sea World Ohio. Separate owners. Six Flags bought both parks and essentially ruined it. They jammed as many rides they could fit. The park was dirty. They removed the wooded picnic area and wouldn't permit coolers in the park. It sucked. Cedar point bought it from six flags whom I guess was losing money on the park. Cedar point then shut down the Geauga Lake side and put a small water park on the sea world side. It's now turning into a meijer grocery store.

      @@MATTHEW3438 I read a book on Geauga Lake, and the men who bought the small park and successfully ran it in the 70's-90's actually worked for Cedar Point. They were in a meeting and their boss was presented with a proposal to buy Geauga Lake. The boss threw out the proposal, and the 3 guys fished it out of the trash and bought the park.

    This is why I hate Cedar fair. I don't mind six flags. Although I live in the UK something happened similar to a park near where I live called Southport pleasureland. It was bought by blackpool pleasure beach and in 2006 it closed. However Southport pleasureland opened again 7 years ago and is potentially buying knightmare from Camelot. Also to end on some positive news related to historical rides.... Blackpool pleasure beach's grand national, big dipper, Noah's ark, blue flyer and the flying machines are now grade two listed
