The difference with the ESC is likely that they added a MOSFET which therefore increases the current they can switch. Most MOSFETs do 30A for each... hence the increase from 120 (4x) to 150 (5x).
It would be good tosee those two speed controls taken apart and see if you see what components are different on the boards that allows the 30amp difference. It would interesting.

Sticking 25.2v through a 23v max crappy Banggood motor. To be expected on grass even though you’re not quite maxing out the RPM. You’ll get more out of a higher kV 4s rated setup using motors from bangers. 👍
Damn, I was hoping it could take 6S. I have the Pirates 2 V3 monster truck and had the exact same issue. 4S no problem. 6S cogging inconsistently, in the middle of a cogging pass I suddenly had full 6S power. This was with 30mm axle extenders and E-Revo wheels on, 11 tooth pinion and the stock 4074 orange motor. It ended in a severely grinded pinion which locked the car at 40 mph, and that was the last time I ever tried 6S. And anyways, the crazy balooning on 4S, pretty much meant the massive Louise E-Revo tyres would have caught each other at a speed, I'm not wanting to try my luck on.
The ESC still works a year later, having a great time in a Slash 4x4 never exceeding 3S on the stock Velineon. I really want to love the Pirates truck, but it takes alot of maintaining compared to the Slash. But when take the price into consideration, I had to get it. It was my first Banggood product, delivered in less than a week, RTR for 170£. Very impressive, but the stock wheels was the lowest possible quality and broke on the third jump, which was no more than half a meter.. My truck have always had a grinding metallic noise(not gear mesh) and on it's last outing the front diff had to throw in the towel. It's now sitting on a shelf waiting on parts, so I'm guessing next year.
