not that it's a huge revenue stream, but there are toys and merchandise based off these bots. and, there are non-televised events they do all the time in vegas, where BB is HQ'ed, that they sell tickets to (these are the B team bots and old favorites not able to compete with the big boys, not helmed by the real crews). i imagine all the space this show takes up is pretty substantial, but as far as the bots themselves, that cost is on the teams. couple of things to bear in mind is that there are small competitions all over with all sorts of weight classes. also, there are tv shows in other countries that do the same thing (and when they come here get their asses handed to them, lol). when i mention to someone that i love this show, they know what i'm talking about, which is surprising to me. maybe it's just where i'm at since i drive for a school system that has a robotics team that goes to competitions.
Good battle, despite some technical failures. But it's been decades, and other than the screws the arena hazards are still not worth the trouble. The hammer occasionally makes a difference, but the hazards are mostly so erratic they're unfair, and so weak they're pointless. It amazes me that they haven't been improved in all this time.
imo the hazards arent really meant to do too much damage on purpose. They're more to disrupt the action and allow robots to show control by manuvering other bots into them. Also, if discovery was doing serious damage to competitiors robots with their hazards, it would be needlessly expensive damage for the already really expensive robots
The hazards are mostly just there to test designs and ensure any kinks are ironed out. The hammer doesn't do much damage to these well designed robots but has damaged rookie bots significantly and it would hurt for a human to stand under it. The screws are more so a tool to exercise control. I have seen some fun tricks with the hammer though like using the hammer to pin an opponent so you can spin up or getting an OOTA by placing a robot on a hammer so it can't retract. The killsaws are completely useless and honestly exist to get competitors stuck nowadays though.
I agree that skorpios won this one. But just barely since bloodsport definitely compromised it’s weapon but other than that skorpios really controlled them

This match was REALLY close than met the eye. For me, I thought Bloodsport won, given the criteria for the show, but Skorpios has a valid argument as well. Here's how I put it according to Battlebots's criteria: Damage: 4 - 1 Bloodsport (Skorpios lost use of its weapon early) Control: 0 - 3 Skorpios (No contest for control, Skorpios won it here) Aggression: 2 - 1 Bloodsport (While it was driving away from Skorpios for large portions of the battle, Skoprios also lost use of its weapon early and Bloodsport kept using its weapon throughout the battle. Arguably you could say Skorpios won aggression because of its driving. However, the criteria favors weapon use over driving, unless the driving plays a major role. I personally find this aggression rule from Battlebots a double-edged sword. If I weren't using Battlebots's criteria, I would've given it to Skorpios for its driving, 100%. However, the criteria would label Skorpios's driving as more control. Kinda like Razorback vs SawBlaze back in Season 2, when Razorback was deemed the aggressor because of the use of its drum throughout the battle. Like I said, I find Battlebots's agression rule a double-edged sword and I wish they gave the driving as equal aggression as weapon use, and not weapon use over driving.)
I gotta say as much as these are very entertaining, I really think the championship battles should go with no time limit...to the death! Kind of lame it's timed. BS probably would have won it if it was fight to the death

i just don't get why not giving scorpios a real saw. To like cut thru the metal instead of this weak spinner. It has a very strong wedge, it can surely take on strong weapons face to face, then pin then against the wall and cut thru most bots with a proper saw.
Don't agree with that decision at all. The scorecard gives the bots 3 categories. Damage. Aggression and control. 5 max for damage, 3 max for Aggression and 3 max for control. Bloodsport mangled Scorpios weapon and damages its armour. Scorpios just pushed it around the box and pinned it for a few seconds. Bloodsport should have had that one.

Absolute cope. Bloodsport was outmatched here. Out sped and out maneuvered, a critical flaw in a bot with a defensive only weapon with a hell of a charge up. Add in that the only damage was to the opponent's weapon in a full match... yeah, that was pretty pitiful. Had it been KO only, Skor. could have used the environment for an eventual win with how poorly Bloodsport was getting around and continually pinned.
No damage? They almost one shot endgame when they revealed the weapon almost sliced their drive motors or when they took off tombstones wheel They do damage it's just not explosive damage

And we can go on for days about what "almost" happened, but in the end, what _did_ happen is what the bot and the driver could actually manage.

However, if Skorpios' weapon had still been fully operational when Bloodsport warped it, then I would have given it a 5-0 Damage spread, since now Bloodsport would have inflicted functional damage to Skorpios, while Skorpios inflicted no functional damage. Points are awarded on control and aggression, as well as damage, so you could make a case that Skorpios had the edge on control and aggression (if not damage). That being said, "you never want to leave it in the hands of the judges", as Kenny said. Glad they added an appeal option in the current season because the judges don't always get it right the first time.
No. Not "no matter how much damage." There was a ton more damage that Skorpios could have sustained, such as the weapon arm being knocked off or the drive giving out (both of which have happened to it before). It was much more controlled and aggressive, which made up for the damage deficit.
I agree after about halfway all scropios could do was use its body to pin or push bloodsport around it was no longer actively attacking or capable of such, just stopping bloodsport from annihilating it tbh
