I can't believe that Hydra did 20 flips in a single battle. That's possibly the most flips ever done in BattleBots history.
When he took the over on the 11.5 flips I genuinely thought it was going to be close. Nope little did I know Hydra was cheerleading captain.

that bot has unlimited power reserves or supply for flips so could do possibly do twice that

Hydra's weapon just never seems to lose power. It can flip just as high on it's first flip as it's fifteenth.
Hydraulics does that.
@@Living_Murphys_Law You sure it's not a spring compressed by hydraulics as hydraulics are powerful but slow.
That's exactly what makes Hydra hydraulic flipper so unique: CO2 based flippers consumes the gas to generate pressure, so they run out of it after some flip.
Hydraulic flippers don't consumes anything, so they can deliver a basicaly undefined number of flips never loosing power
@@ntal5859 You're close to it there. It's effectively a spring type hydraulic accumulator, but utilising air for the compression vector rather than a steel spring. The advantage they have is they can keep going all fight unless they have a rupture somewhere in the system, but there is a slight downside of it needing to take a few seconds to charge it up to full power.

@@xxfreedomxx9479 well it wasn’t because it was slow, it’s partially because it became outdated quick. the armor wasn’t necessarily good against spinners all the time hence why they built that mechanism on the back of the bot.
if you compare it to hydra, hydra is low to the ground and automatically went to the ground game.
hydro also can flip faster than bronco.

One of my all-time favorite matches! I've watched it multiple times on my lunch breaks at work! "He paid for Ground Shipping. I gave him free air!" Funniest line ever!
Hydra's wedgelets might get caught on the floor a ton and it might have to sacrifice a lot of mobility, but with how important winning the ground game is in BattleBots, I'd say it's a concession worth taking
If you watch vs tantrum(this season) hydra was much more manoeuvrable but ended up losing the ground war.
I think jake tried to be ultra aggressive as he lost last season to tantrum because he apparently wasn’t. And sacrificed ground game.
But it didn’t work, so they’ve gone back to ultra low, struggle to get around but win all the ground game config.
This fight was just peak Hydra. It's so much fun seeing it throw bots sky high, and barrel rolling them through the air. Also, it was nice of Jake to let it go to the judges. He could've taken a late knockout win (heck, John seemed like he was trying to beat the fight timer when counting out Free Shipping), but because Free Shipping did so well to survive as long as it did, it deserved to go the distance.
It's nuts considering these bots weight as much as a man and a half... Just flung into the air with such ease.

From the first couple of fights I observed of Hydra, I can conclude that that bot is one of, if not, the best flipper out there. Always super consistent, precise and just all in all effective each shot.

I’m glad they no longer have the gaps in arena so you can’t flip someone out. But Free Shipping probably would have preferred it, that was just a 3 minute of Hydra testing it’s flipper.
Oh they do have gaps. There's a couple of small ones behind the pulverizers on the upper deck side, and lets face it there's no way Hydra couldn't still get someone in the entry gate areas by going over the screens they added by them.

Hydra couldn't have asked for a better designed robot than free shipping. There was no way free shipping was gonna land a shot, and that opening under its spinner was perfect for hydra's flipper.

now that's my kind of flipper, this is exactly something that i'd build if i had money to build a robot. this makes Chaos 2 look like a relic .. oh wait, chaos 2 IS a relic, but Chaos 2 was and always will be the inspiration to all flipper bots!
what's impressive, is how well optimized this flipper is. most bots run out of co2 after like 10 flips, actually i'm not sure what he uses to power the flipper, it could be different kind of mechanism, i haven't noticed any co2 venting during the flips.
also it's impressive how many hard hits free shipping took before breaking down, don't forget that those are almost 100kg robots flying around, try dropping 10kg on your floor and see just how much force it has. i think over 90% of bots would break after 1 of those high flips.
It doesn't use CO2 at all, it's a hydraulic flipper. Its name, Hydra, also reflects this. They made a post on Facebook about how it works. Being able to flip many times with the same power is one of the great advantages of this technology.

Poor Hydra is forced to go overboard with flips, or else the judges will rule for his opponent saying that he didn't do enough damage.
I think the only chance Free Shipping might have had is if he could have faked out Hydra into popping the flipper and then attack while the arm was up.

Probably the fact it's a competition means they legally have to do a proper judges decision even in a one sided match, for legal reasons (game show rules in the US be like that)
