Many episodes ago "I'm so sad I don't get to see Miller any more!"
All of us looking at each other.
You jerks! But also thank you for not spoiling it!!! 🖤🖤🖤
I've been waiting for this episode for so long. 😊
@@funnylilgalreacts you know so many of us are bursting at the seams. But honestly that’s what makes it fun.
I rarely get to watch someone enjoy a show I find so amazing with all the magic I experienced it the first time around.
I ain’t gonna be the person to ruin it.
I remember thinking that when funnylilgal said that! Hehe
I spoke out loud "just wait"
Amos saying "He was my best friend in the whole world." almost sounds like some kind of scared oath. It's got some immense weight coming from him.
"I don't want these seasons to fly by and I don't want it to all of the sudden be over, and I have no more expanse to watch."
The best thing to watch after The Expanse is a re-watch of The Expanse.
It's almost mandatory considering how much you don't realize you miss the first time around.
There is also a decent chance they'll eventually adapt the final three books.
The pause and timejump would make perfect sense too, so in a few years that's an interesting project.
@@IMortage Yeah because of the time jump, actors being older fits well within the canon. So even if it takes a decade, we probably will get them. Maybe with the same actors.
One of the greatest things about the Expanse fandom, is that we all remember the amazement at some of the twists and reveals like Millers appearance, and none of us would dream of depriving another fan of those moments. Expanse fans do not spoil the Expanse!
Doors and Corners
The Good Place fans also do well not to spoil the show for other reactors too.
You haven’t experienced Deep Purple until you’ve heard them in the original Belter.
And you can't appreciate "All along the watchtower" until you've heard it in the original Cylon ;)
You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon.

Ashford is a legendary pirate, David Strathairn is such a good actor, great casting I'd say
His Belter accent and manners are just as amazing as Jared Harris' performance was. Legendary.
@@brauliob Two legendary actors, It was great!
@@R1ckj333 The thing with Straithairn is that he's been typecast over the last 25 or so years into one primary role type: very buttoned down and under control. This change of pace must have been a blast for him and I bet it's one of the reasons why he took the role. The last role I remember him being loose and funny in was Sneakers way back in '92. I'm sure there are others but none come to mind at the moment.
This show had some great 'name/stunt' casting. Thomas Jane. Jared Harris. David Strathairn. They're vets and some aspect of a "hey, that guy!" and were awesome to see them in the show. They all killed it.
I love that you noticed how prominent Naomi's accent was among Belters. Naomi is a textbook example of someone who can code-switch very well. You saw hints of it in earlier seasons; watch any time she's alone with Miller or Drummer and how she speaks to them versus inners like Holden, Lopez, or even Fred Johnson.
"Look, you can't play with my emotions like that!" Ooooooh, The Expanse has barely begun to play with them. hehe. Solid reaction! 😁
The "spoiler" in the opening credits was the actor's name who plays Miller. ;)
At the very end I went on a whole tear about “if I saw that…..” I’m so glad I didn’t see it. It let the surprise really sink in.
@@funnylilgalreacts We knew you’d be quick enough to put that one together. 😉
That's one of the big problems with the Screen Actors Guild rules. They mandate that certain actors be placed in the opening credits (based on their number of appearances in the series as a whole), which makes making a surprises like this in the episode quite difficult. And they tend to be very resistant in allowing any changes for the sake of mere producers and writers. This is not the only show that has run into this problem.
@@o.b.7217 But even the anticipation of him showing up in the episode can ruin the moment a little
@@funnylilgalreacts I think I saw it the first time I saw it but then forgot about it over the course of the episode and with Maneo turning to jam, my mind was elsewhere until Miller appeared. Great moment.
The scene when Maneo hits the ring always cracks me up. The whole build up, the girl friend drama, the truimphant music, and then SPLAT! I was litetally rolling on the floor laughing when first I saw it.

My favourite single-episode story arc! I love Maneo, Evita and the whole slingshotter culture that is implied. So much respect for those actors, considering that all they had to act against was a camera.
Also: David Strathairn!
He unnerstan me. Dah REEL me...
I love Maneo as a character, too :)
Sling-shotting is explained a bit more in the books. It's basically an extreme sport. The pilot strips as much mass from the ship as they can, then plots a course to use minimal fuel and thrust to complete a "course" in the fastest time. The closer you swing toward the moon or planets, the more gravity will "sling" you along. Miscalculate, and you get torn apart or crash. Miller interrupted a betting parlor on Ceres that was watching a slingshotter who died in S1. Alex did a slow-motion version of it to get down to Ganymede.
@@jts8053
I think Ty Franck mentioned on "Ty & That Guy" that part of the reasons for this storyline was that they were aware that they botched the depiction of sling-shotting in S02E11and wanted to portray it with more accuracy.
I spent the whole time waiting for your reaction to that moment. As the saying goes, "It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop." Seems to work in space too. HAHAHA
Accelerometer pegged at -99
The Episode is called Delta-V, which roughly means "change in speed", which is not only the thing you do to "steer" anything in space, but also the reason that Idiot got killed by the Ring:
It changed the Speed of his Spacecraft from... idk... 1860m/s to 0m/s in like 1 second... problem is, his body was still moving with the 1860m/s ^^*
Hey, its the future im sure theyve invented good airbags?
Maybe not! 🤣
"It's not the fall that kills you, but the sudden stop at the end."
Naomi's accent changes depending on who she's around because she "code switches". She uses her real belter accent when she's with belters and she's learned to hide it with inners.
She’s super intelligent, I can see that being something she’d do to either blend in or stand out if necessary.
I’m from northeast Brazil and lived in the southernmost state for 15 years and used to change my accent a lot, sometimes within minutes, depending on whom I was taking to…
It was kind of annoying to stand out so most of the time it was a conscious thing…
I know people who's accent changes all the time depending on where they are. They just do it unconsciously and have to work to stop it. Some people are just really wired to mirror others.
I suspect it's a key factor in Naomi's success as an engineer. Even excluding the Inner/Belter dynamic it can be hard for engineers to communicate with non-engineers. In 1x1 Naomi is trying to stress the need for some critical repairs to Holden because she knows he has the Captain's ear. Her ability to instinctively communicate and navigate social structures puts her on a higher tier of engineers because she can get sh*t done.
The books might be more explicit (not that it means anything for the show) but the show doesn't seem to call it out as such. If she was trying to hide it, then one would think she would also hide her tattoos and change that beautiful Belter hairdo. On places like the Cant and Roci, cross pollination is bound to happen to varying degrees. When my family goes back to Puerto Rico, it just naturally comes out. We even make fun of each other, about it and then make fun again when after coming back it starts to fade. I understand that is not the case for everyone, but it's all in good fun for us.
@@TetsuoVI the flip side is people like me who don't really change accent. My accent changed as a kid moving from Kansas to Long Island and then again when moving to Buffalo. But since then it's stuck. I am very clearly a Yank after over two decades in Ireland.
My theory is that folks whose accents are more fluid are also more musical.
Favorite show, it's awesome to see someone so passionate about it, it's so underrated and almost no one knows about it
I’m trying to tell everyone I know about it… It’s so good such a shame it’s not as popular as it should be
Honestly my favourite part of the show when I first watched it was Maneo. It was such a shock but it was also something that makes this show special. That's what would happen if you suddenly stop in space, most Sci fi just ignore it. Oh and the power move by Amos on the reporter, showing her how seduction is done, before just rejecting her outright. *Chef kiss*... My favourite part of the reaction was your aggressive ear bud throw. Really encapsulates how some of felt having to wait a week for the next episode....
He just forgot to turn on the inertial dampeners.
You can't just stop. You have to slow down, first.
@@Yesquire0 Oh? How did the protomolecule survive hitting Venus at far higher speeds?
@@eazolan Protomolecule cheats.
@@eazolan There was a *lot* of protomolecule on Eros. Also it doesn't have any requirement to remain in any particular shape, humans do. You splatter a protomolecule vomit zombie like that, and the protomolecule won't care.
Also, Klass Ashford is portrayed by David Steathairn. The man is a brilliant actor and, in my opinion, gives the absolute best depiction of a Belter. The amount of effort he put into the Belter language and accent is chefs kiss perfection.
My favourite part was you commenting on Maneo's fate by saying "I didn't expect that" just as Holden was turning round and I started laughing my backside off thinking to myself "Oh you didn't expect *That* huh? We'll you're REALLY not gonna expect what comes next" LOL
I love how just before Miller appears you say "I didn't expect that" hahahaha
I was like: Well then you're going to really not expect this!!! hahaha
You know how a car crash tries to throw you out the windscreen. So you wear a seatbelt to prevent that.
Well.. that's at like 50 MPH. When you're in a space ship going at 10000 MPH a seatbelt ain't doing shit. The ship stops and your bones don't.
This is the only “sci-fi” show I can think of that accurately depicts what the insane acceleration so ubiquitous in space shows would _actually_ do to the human body.
Without the magic of “inertial dampeners” on Star Trek, everyone on the Enterprise would be human salsa smeared along the aft bulkheads the first time they went to warp.
Warp is a bad example, they don't accelerate to faster then light so they wouldn't necessarily get crushed without dampeners. Sublight speed changes on the other hand ...

That's the problem with truly talented character actors... You can sometimes forget their names because whenever you see them, they are able to convince you that they are someone else entirely! David Strathairn is one of those.
I have no idea if I've ever even seen him before, but I don't think I have. He'll always be Ashford to me, though.
@@fakecubed You've almost certainly seen him in something but he usually plays very buttoned down and tightly wound individuals in a suit and tie. I have been waiting for this episode. The roller coaster at the end is just so good. When I watched it with my parents the reactions were so good. My mom immediately mentions his hat. 🤣
With regard to the credits, you asked "What were these people thinking?" ... my guess is that it was probably contractual stuff they couldn't do anything about. His contract with the studio probably says if he's in an episode, he has to be credited as "special appearance by." But also (though it sounds like you disagree 🤨), I sometimes think the whole "don't watch the credits!" thing can be a little overblown. A lot of people watch the credits and don't even notice that the name comes up, honestly, and even if they do, I've been watching TV shows long enough to know that the reference could have been because the person in question appeared in a flashback or a dream sequence or any one of a number of things like that. In fact, at this point, we don't really know that it's anything other than a momentary vision that Holden had for some as yet unexplained reason. In which case, I could argue that telling someone to not watch the credits actually is kind of a spoiler in itself, in that it suggests that the appearance of that person represents a significant event of some sort. I don't know... I see both sides of it, but mostly I think it's best to leave well enough alone and not even call attention to it.
Or, you know, maybe I'm just being cranky😏. I just think it's not the game changer that some people make it out to be. Glad you enjoyed the reveal, though!
David Strathairn is, in my opinion, one of the best character actors working today; he makes everything he's in better (and he's in a LOT). Don't want to say anything more and give away anything about his future, but Ashford is (as you've already seen) a wonderfully complex character, made all the more awesome by Strathairn's performance, which is somehow nuanced and volatile at the same time. He's terrific.
Well, like I explained, I definitely thought the ring or the squid coming out of Venus would’ve been what they showed. I think anytime you ruin the fact that somebody who’s dead may appear it takes away from the emotional impact it could have. Even if it was just a memory or a flashback.
That being said, there is somebody who appears in the next episode that it isn’t in the main title sequence. And I didn’t notice said actress being listed because I was watching the show. I always watch the opening, but immediately get sucked into the show and miss whomever is listed after the fact.
I think that’s why I’m still confused on Ashford because he’s so complex. He’s right about changing how they handle situations and how the inners see them. But he makes me grind my teeth how he steps on her toes. I’m excited to get more of him.
@@funnylilgalreacts Fair point about the name in the credits. And it's hard for me to objectively judge the impact of this particular character's name appearing (deliberately being vague about who it is on the off chance that someone is reading the comments here before watching the episode) because personally I had read the books previously, so I knew what was coming, and I still enjoyed the moment. But what does that mean? Damned if I know...
Ashford is rather full of himself and his initial demeanor toward Drummer is indeed quite disrespectful. He is flawed, like all the characters on this show. But also like virtually all of the characters in this show, he may not be completely irredeemable. Who knows? He may grow. Or not. He does seem intent on some sort of growth, both personally and for Belters as a society and burgeoning nation. Where will that lead? I ain't telling. But wherever it leads, you can bet it'll be interesting!
I never knew about the credits. I honestly listen to shows more than watch them. I only learned about it from reactors who were spoiled by it and were annoyed by it.
You're exactly right. It's a contractual/SAG thing. It was mentioned several times on the podcasts for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul that they had to really move some stuff around to avoid returning characters that they'd want to keep a surprise being spoiled, or the credits undercutting the emotion of any climactic scenes that might happen in the beginning of an episode. There's one episode toward the end of BB's run that has a hugely climactic scene in the first ten minutes of the episode, and the creators really didn't want the list of guest stars and stuff playing over it, so they had to get the sign-off from a bunch of people to get permission to put the credits a few minutes later in the episode, since they're typically obligated to put certain credits at a certain point.
Similarly, there's an episode of Buffy that's super heavy and depressing, but it starts with a flashback to a happier time. The flashback was actually put there so that the credits that had to play at the beginning of the episode wouldn't be playing during the heavy stuff.
There's an episode of Game of Thrones where they had to do a cold open because the first scene revealed a person, and they did not want to show the credits before that.
Amazing episode .... Jesus the smile on my face when I saw Miller and the introduction of the great Klaes Ashford ❤ .....
Given how good season 3 has been so far I think you can now understand all of our confusion and anger when the show was cancelled by Syfy. Still can't believe how lucky we were that Amazon stepped in to save the show
I personally lost all hope for the SyFy channel back when they cancelled SGU, and replaced it with WWE wrestling.
Can't blame them for cancelling SGU that show never really took off, and was expensive to make but the fact that they replaced it with something completely unrelated to sci-fi.
@@lunaticbz3594 I still had the tiniest bit of hope after SGU when they started airing Dark Matter but that went away pretty quickly as well when that also got canned
As I understand it, anything having to do with credits is the domain of agents and lawyers, because it relates to compensation. Even relatively minor aspects like the order of the credits gets negotiated. (Fun story: have you even seen opening credits where the names of two main leads are shown at the same time, one in the upper right and the other in the lower left? That's an industry compromise - if you read the credits from top to bottom it appears as if A is listed before B, and if you read from left to right it appears as if B is listed before A. It's a silly lawyer/agent trick to not have to settle on one person getting first credit.)
Anyway, this is all to say that I'm relatively confident that Thomas Jane's name appearing in the opening credits was *not* a creative decision and was far outside of the hands of the people that actually cared about the fans. Suit stuff.
This popped back up in my feed and you're Maneo+Miller reaction at the end is PRICELESS!!! 🤣
oh you are in for such a ride for the rest of this season. Love you reactions to Miller and the other characters.
So true. The rest of the season is Fire!!!
The cascade on Ganymede was presumably averted by the new peace treaty between Earth and Mars. Once the fighting stopped, the reality is both planets really need the food grown there so it would have been a top priority to immediately start fixing things. I like to think Prax was a big part of the recovery effort. Of course, it's been months, so it's very likely a lot of the people left behind there still died between the events of the previous episode and this one. Or even just in the days between when our main crew left Ganymede and went to Io.
It's probably been mentioned a million times but just to reiterate: if you're going to read the books, I highly highly recommend the audiobooks. Presently, I'm on my third listen but the first since all the books and short stories were released. Keep up the good work and love The Expanse reactions.

There's another reaction duo who decided to completely ignore the warnings about the credits, pretty much out of shear defiance, which in turn meant they were laser focused on them, and got spoiled. OTOH, all the reactors who avoided the credits never guessed the ending, so good on you for doing that.

Ashford is actually acting the way an XO (second in command) is supposed to act. It's never the captain who gives the orders, it's always the XO.
Not entirely accurate, but close enough. 100% agree though that Ashford is definitely acting like an XO should in that regard. 👍🏼
Not to mention it's also the XO's job to present alternatives so that the captain always has options.
It’s they way he went about it. Maybe the crew doesn’t notice, but we as viewers were not supposed to like that interruption. Like I said though, he’s not wrong at all.
@@funnylilgalreacts Yes, technically he's doing his job and ethically I agree with his points, but he did publicly override and undermine Drummer in a manner she could not counteract. OTH he did save that guys life, classic Expanse grey area that leaves you all conflicted :)

In the books, Melba had a black-market artificial gland installed that is activated when she draws a circle on the roof of her mouth with her tongue. The gland releases artificial adrenalin that was developed for the UN military "super-soldier program," however, it has a flaw in that the hormone has a limited duration, after which the user collapses, exhausted.
Ashford gave a real masterclass in undercutting authority and self-image. But we finally get some proper time with her, and Ashford's a great foil for her. But you do kinda sorta totally want her to punch him in the face the second they meet. "I've got yer 'authority' right here, asshole" 😅

Well I've always said that The Expanse fandom is the best! So glad you weren't spoiled because your reaction was authentic and wonderful! Why did Holden see Miller? You've already answered part of that by saying when the belter went through the ring the exact same moment Miller appeared to Holden. The other part of that you have already discussed but maybe haven't put it together!
I haven't always liked the introduction to new characters but this show is on a completely differently level, you will see ( No spoilers)

Deceleration trauma (rather severe case here). I grinned when you said a tearful goodbye to Miller last season. The ring will be explained, as will Miller.
Drummer is Captain of the Behemoth, and Klaes Ashford was appointed (politically?) as her Executive Officer. Naomi is the Behemoth's Chief Engineer and Diogo Harari is Ashford's adjutant and general gopher. The Roci crew remains the same, with the addition of Monica Stewart (the reporter) and Elio "Cohen" Casti (her blind cameraman). Anna Volovodov is aboard the Thomas Prinz, as are Melba Koi, and the rest of the maintenance crew for the UN flotilla, and Gunney Draper is back with a Martian Marine fireteam assigned to the Martian flotilla.
Oh Maneo, smdh. RIP man. At least it was a quick way to go, but still... Oof!
By the way, code switching has been a great survival tactic for many people that not everyone appreciates. I knew a guy that used to say things like "be who you are wherever you go, and I'm just thinking how ridiculous it'd be if I talked to the CEO of my company or my grandmother the way I talk to my friends and cousins. *Hint:* The CEO would get rid of me and my grandmother would smack me (and adult) into oblivion, lol.
There is another show, which had a similar problem, with an actress appearing in tittle credits, which would be an spoiler, for the episode. They were contractually obligated to add it. They try to negotiate something to mitigate the problem, which was reduce the name of the character, as that would be the spoiler in that occasion, but they were not allowed to remove it. That trick worked there, because, the character was heavily mentioned on many episodes, but it had almost no screen time, which mean the actress name was not so widely know. It obviously would have not worked here, as the we all know who that actor portrait.
This is also why, I always try not to read the actors in the titles as a general rule. Less chance of accidental spoilers.
It's part of the Screen Actors Guild rules where an actors credits appear in a show.
It was an enjoyable episode, waiting for you to reach that ending! Ah.. remember my own first time with that one... brilliant stuff. Still keeps getting better. Ta again.
The slingshotter doing his thing for love and glory . . . then his extreme face-plant! Boy do I identify with him to a lesser more boring degree! While that entire set up was legendary, I liked everything about this episode. Amos significant contribution to memorable quotes. Alex and Gunny’s feel good chat. Christian snapping at hairdressers. The Drummer, Naomi, Ashford triangle. Best of all, Amos talking about his best friend in the whole world!!! A kickass episode in a kickass season of a kickass show! BTW, thank for making rewatches along with you so darn entertaining. Keep on keeping on like a boss!!!
YAY! My favourite day on RUclips! More Expanse Reactions! 😍
Argh! That reaction to Miller! I was so looking forward to that and you did not disappoint! 😊
Funny girl : "I hate these guys with the hats!"
The Expanse 🤨 : (shows miller)
Funny girl : 🥹😢
What did we learn? Lol
My dude Ashford is now aboard. I really enjoy everything this actor is in and he definitely is great on this show.
Heh, you're going to need a new pair of ear buds soon... I think we need to find a 'Amos Face Plushy" that you can have and hold. One with a flooofy beard so you can rub next to your face. lol🤣
Season 3 just keeps leveling-up, and it does not STOP
Yep, season 3 is the best season of the best series at least in this genre. Pure perfection :D
And the hat is back. You know, it keeps the rain off his head.
Hey dude, I'm sorry this one hit you like it did.
My fun little bit to say is a friend of mine worked on the practical effects for this show, he got to make a cannon that fired gallons of red corn syrup for Maneo's scene :)
Saturn’s rings are made up of many small pieces of ice. If you pass thru the Saturn’s ring at speeds typically used by space craft, the relative speed of the ice would be like being shot by bullets, only much much worse.
The title, "Delta-V," refers to the physics equation for acceleration that was so graphically depicted when the Ring decelerated Maneo's ship from its extreme velocity to a much more leisurely pace. Unfortunately, only the ship was decelerated, not its contents, including Maneo.
IMO, this may be the best written television show ever.
There are shows I like more, though this is WAAAAY up there, but in terms of just writing? A+++
the key is great source material
I will admit of I've been waiting for your reaction to Manneo's splatting for a very very long time.
I really like your heart felt reactions. Your reaction to Maneo going through the ring did not disappoint. (me with evil grin). Love your reaction to seeing Miller again. I love how invested you are into this show. This show deserves many Emmy awards!!
*reaches the end* And thus begins my favourite arc in the show.
"Diogo's back..."
My sentiments exactly. Having watched this series 3 times you're bringing new insights and enjoyment without me having to make sure you're paying attention
I always enjoy your reactions.
One thing though, Holden is the captain of the Rocinante, and Alex is the pilot. Very different jobs.
I figured your response to Miller being back was going to be about like that, but I did figure you'd mention his hat.
Woke up feeling crummy till I remembered it was Expanse Monday. Thank you for starting my day off in a much better place! Great reaction guys!
🙌🙌🙌🙌
@@funnylilgalreacts I will echo this... I love waking up in the morning, making my daily breakfast, then sitting and eating while watching your Expanse reactions.
🖤 that makes me feel so happy 🖤
There are rules which have been drawn up between various guilds and unions which cover things such as naming people in the credit sequences to shows. This isn't the first time I've come across this. There's an episode of Babylon 5 where they were required to do the same thing, but because the actor playing the character had changed, they got away with cutting the character's name down to their first name in order to try their best to avoid spoiling their appearance at the end of the episode. Here, they had no choice so it winds up as a spoiler.
13:00 It's a little smug of the UN to literally have her haloed in gold.
14:38 The rings of saturn aren't solid... but ring systems like that are one of the few places you can find your classic Star Wars Asteroid Field level of big chunks of ice.
22:12 I think that's just the Nauvoo's bridge, it was still a ship after all.
34:35 Well. Physically, Miller died when Eros hit Venus. The Protomolecule needed to figure out how to actually 'run' his consciousness. That's probably why Katoa... did that to the nurse. Disassembly reveals useful pathways, and whatnot.
Again, there are RUclips channels that cover reactors reacting to specific scenes in shows and guess which scene features from this episode!
I love the Belter songs in this episode. They should totally release an album of these.
They made that album, actually; it's called "The Expanse - The Collector's Edition" and it was released in 2019. Includes the Belter versions of "Highway Star" and "I'm All Alone" (All By Myself, sorta) and other stuff. It's available as a digital download and there's also a cool vinyl version in translucent blue. The individual songs are available for download too and you can also stream them on RUclips. I posted some links but my original comment got deleted - don't know if I violated some policy, can't imagine what it would have been, but anyway, some simple googling will find any of these things pretty easily.

I know these issues, too, and have the impression that RUclips doesn't like links to external sources much. Links to other RUclips content seem to work fine.
Its also available on Deezer and Spotify
This is one of my favorite episodes.
I love your appreciation of the characters, story, an writing 😁
When I saw Thomas Jane's name in the intro I just assumed a flashback was coming.
Ashfod/Strathairn is the 2nd best character and casting ever. First is Chrisjen/Shohreh.
He's an amalgamation of book characters and the show writers did a great job.
