De Palma is easily one of the best filmmakers of his generation!
You watch one of his films, and then before you know it, you wanna watch the rest. There's something so addictive and appealing about his films while also being disturbing.
I hope he makes a big comeback with his next project: *Sweet Vengeance*

      1) Blow Out
      2) Carrie
      3) Casualties of War
      4) Carlito's Way

I really hope he churns out one more gangster film with Al Pacino before he finally calls it quits. At both of their ages now, he can make a gangster film where Al's character is an old former gangster looking back at his old life and the rest of the movie is a flashback like Carlito's Way.

Ran out of ideas, I guess. As much as I like De Palma, his films are mainly exercises in style that mish-mash familiar genre plots as excuses for him to Hitchcockian style set pieces that make you forget about his lack of storytelling depth or originality. I suppose after the mid-90's, De Palma ran out of films to lift from and as such, struggled to craft plots that were competent enough for him to focus on the visuals and set pieces. If he could find a good screenwriter whose plots fits his sensibilities, he may make great films again. As it stands, De Palma is firmly a relic of the 70's and 80's.

It happens to a lot of directors, no matter how great they were.
After a while, their work stops reaching the great heights of before.
It happened to Frank Capra. It happened to Dario Argento. It’s probably happening to Tim Burton and Robert Zemeckis. And it happened to De Palma.
As Darkman’s said, though, it’s possible he could come out with one last hit if he finds the right collaborators.
