  • Building this system relieves us from having to check the rabbits' food and water as much as we used to. I built a large hopper for pellets for each cage and a centralized water storage system that is easily filled up from our garden hose without any work at all.

    I left my 16 rabbits for nearly 10 days using a similar system of gravity water and pellets, but I just added a pretty massive gravity hay feeder suspended above their heads too (just a bale of Timothy hay covered in chicken wire like a Christmas present) for their dental health and digestive tract health. They all lived, and some of them were considerably fatter. My rabbits are on a big concrete slab, so they did get extremely dirty as the poop accumulated a lot, but I can’t bring myself to put them on a mesh floor. Also, sweeping up rabbit poop is like meditation for me: some people do yoga downward dog, well I do scoop up rabbit poop.

      10 days. Do you know how lucky you are that they survived? I don't trust luck to keep my animals safe, much less alive.

      @@slrs3908 I obviously had a neighbor check on them periodically with plenty of supplies nearby for replenishment. But I’m not asking my neighbor to shovel rabbit poop, that’s not very neighborly if they’re doing me a favor. Update: all 16 rabbits are still healthy and quite naughty. I understand why rabbits are used in pharmaceutical research: they’re extremely hardy animals as long as you avoid the obvious dangers for them like giving them a bath🚫.

    Great idea! Can you please provide an update or any improvement tips on the design? Also just a suggestion on the water buckets. You may want to add a float valve here’s what I use LASCO 05-1053 1/4-Inch Compression Evaporative Swamp Cooler Economy Float Valve.

  • @willdwyer6782
    @willdwyer6782 5 лет назад +5

    A float valve in the bucket would keep it filled automatically.

    Good one. Please, how do you clean the water hose when dirty. Better still, how do you prevent algae build up in the water hose. Thanks.

    I liked this video. It had a man with a historical beard and a fluorescent T-shirt talking about his pipes, buckets and hose among other things. I counted 8 baby bunnies and two adult rabbits. As a result of watching the video I wondered if I should click the subscribe button. I wondered if I would see more rabbits, beards and buckets. I thought I probably would, so I clicked Subscribe. -Fin-

    I had issues with them from some of the ones Ive bought. The last set I bought the Ts seemed stronger but I already have a bag of the very strong hydro ones I paid for seperately on ebay. Those ones are amazing and honestly long run last longer so I just use them to save myself from having to fix it later. Mine were outside though so they definitely needed the added strength. The original Ts from the nipple pack I bought 5 years ago those things were useless as could be. They broke with any little bump days after it was put together and just was worthless which is why I had that bag left over by the time the new nipples were ordered last year. I ordered a big bag of the Ts when the other ones failed me it was like 100 for 13 bucks. Totally worth it. Used what I needed and had plenty left.

      @@jrouse1984 I do love the pig water nipples too but I find the rabbit water nipples really good and cheap. Ill look up the 3/8" ones though like you said. I think the ones I had were way bigger for grown animals maybe?

      When we were raising these rabbits, they were very happy, and got several hours outside in the grass and sun everyday. The cages were more to keep them protected at night and while we weren't home from predators.
