    Good video, helps a lot with understanding the printed pattern. Nice design. To say it’s “Tapestry work on a RH loom” is how I’ll think of it. Can’t use multiple string heddles because it’s all done in front of the Reed. Thanks for posting this!

    Kelly. this would make a really pretty place mat but I would only use one row of Christmas trees and decorate them with embroidery. I love the blue background!!!

    Why did you decide to do the trees pattern in front of the heddle and the dots behind? And thank you for using clear directions on where the heddle is for each.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  4 года назад +2

      Good question! The trees are made of floats that sit on top of the plain weave fabric, so they are really prominent. The dots, being picked up behind the heddle, are less prominent as they are woven into the fabric. Hope that makes sense!

    Hello, is it possible for you to make a video on how to create a draft pattern based on a design? Cause i can only find draft tutorial about how to read one or what you get if you put the shaft this way and tie them up this way. But nothing about how to create one from a design and finding the shaft position based on it. Thank you^^

    Why do you have flat sticks along the bottom of the weave? When would you use them?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  11 месяцев назад

      They are warp separators, they stay in place after they do the initial job of helping to even out the warp.

  • @bon47ful

    Hi Kelly. I’d like to weave a set of six placemats using your pretty snowy winter tree pattern. I made the mistake of warping the width of each mat at 17” - but of course I should have warped the length of each mat at 15” so that the fringe falls at each side of the mats instead of at the top and bottom. 😕 But this will require a 4.5 - 5 yd warp, which I’m afraid might be too much for my 19” Glimakra Emilia to handle. Do you think a 5 yd. warp is too much? Perhaps I should warp for 3 mats and then rewarp for 3 more?
    Then again, this change would orient the trees in a right-pointing direction on each mat.
    Ugh. Thinking now I should just weave the table runner 😂 and forget the placemats!

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  4 года назад +1

      Bonnie, I can't comment directly on your loom as I haven't used a Glimakra, but if it were me using my Ashford, I would separate the warps into two. You can change the directions your trees are facing by reversing the weaving steps, if you need to.

    I keep trying this one (this is only my second weave so it's possible I'm missing something) and while I'm fairly confident in my skills and ability to get this right I'm having a rough go of it. I have the same number you have and everything else has worked so far. The part I keep messing up is starting the trees. How is your yarn catching? The way it continues to turn out for me, my white yarn (similar light/dark combo as you) never catches on the edge. It's passing under those first 6 threads. The same goes for the other end. What am I missing in this part?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  7 лет назад

      So, you're chasing each white row with a background row? Make these 2 go around each other at the selvedge so that they catch. Does that make sense?

    • @fairislefibers9254
      @fairislefibers9254 7 лет назад +2

      That's what I have been doing but maybe I'm off somewhere. I should take a picture since even interlocking them hasn't been working.

    Hi Kelly. I have 2 questions...
    Since the white shows up so much, how do you weave it in after your second dot line?
    Is there a video or instructions to draw this draft?

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  4 года назад

      Hi Cheryl, I'm not sure that I understand your question about weaving in the white after the second dot line - could you expand on that?
      I'm sorry, I don't have a video on how to draw the draft, but for this style of weaving I always start with graph paper. I colour in boxes to make the shapes I want and that way I can get a pretty good idea as to whether the design is going to translate well or not.

      No, I haven't, but you would definitely have to be careful about some yarns doing that.

    • @KellyCasanova

      This was just a sample piece, I'm afraid I didn't count repeats or warp threads.

    • @TheWoollady
      @TheWoollady 6 лет назад +1

      I understand it is just a sample. Just wondering how many warp threads you were using in the sample. I was going to try the same size and wanted to thread the same number of warp threads.

      OK, well I'm thinking that with the 10 dent reed, 4ply (fingering) cotton it was 100 ends - around 10 inches wide. Hope that helps.

    • @KellyCasanova

      I haven't tried it, but you could always pick up in front of the reed in the same way. It's interesting watching traditional European weaving - sometimes they pick up in front and sometimes at the back. I'll try to find you a link as an example.
