    You will have your own digital product because this channel is already one. I use your channel as a form of freelance education or whatever you want to call it but you really help me mold my own day to day with my own freelancing. We also get to watch you troubleshoot all the problems you encounter which helps a lot. So, yeah - I am sure you could sell a digital product

    Started doing full time freelance in 2016, in the video industry since 2008. Best thing I ever did was go out on my own. I've had 2 retainer clients that have been with me almost the entire time. Really makes the pressure a little less each month.

      Dude that’s awesome you have a successful business setup. Everyone is trying to find what works for their style.

    Great stuff as always! I hate when I book a lower paying / smaller gig when a higher paying / bigger opportunity arises. The freelancer struggle. I did recently have a bunch of doc work pop up and since it was multiple days I told the other company I need to be replaced (lower paying 1 day assistant gig). They were understanding. I also gave 2 weeks notice and offered to supply a referral.

      I had all those same factors with a substitute who was available but it was 4 days before the gig and that would’ve been to shady for me. Oh well, I finished the gig and randomly got a new inquiry for a New Mexico shoot haha

    It’s almost funny how often I’ll book a date a month or two off and then that’s the date range I get multiple inquiries about that I have to turn down. Just part of the freelance life. My only retainer is super flexible and pays for my car note so that’s why I keep it around. I’d much rather be doing interesting doc style stuff but it’s nice to have some security.

    • @davidmorefield

      I like the insecurity haha but now that I have a well paying retainer, I see why people are after them.
      I’m hoping YT is the ‘retainer’ that pays for my rent. That would be amazing.

    If I was in your position I would have found a replacement PA that is as good if not better than myself and gone and worked the bigger project. If I was the production company working on the shoot they hired you to PA, I would be sad to lose you but also totally understand that another bigger better paid opportunity came up and as long as you provide a solution to fill the role with someone reliable and awesome then there would be no hard feelings. I respect you for owning the responsibility to work the gig but as it’s just a PA role and not something more critical I think its very understandable to switch out and move to a different project

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  3 месяца назад +2

      Yes, that was definitely in my mind as a possibility. The utility gig was confirmed a month ago and the these new gigs came 3 days before. That’s too close for me to feel good about it. Plus I don’t want these new clients to know that I will switch gigs to the highest bidder. Hopefully they will call again but can’t get them all.

    One thing about a PA rate, especially with multiple days out and overqualified talent... If I had you as a PA, I'd understand if you found a replacement and had to take another gig.
    But it is dicey when you responded available, and you accept the gig.
    Find a replacement would be on you.
    But I wouldn't care too much as the production company. I get it.
    Back to Production Hub to find your own replacement :) 😂😂

      I have people I trust that I could’ve recommended but it was only three days out and I didn’t want to throw a wrench in things.
      And yeah you’re right, this was a random PH listing that I responded to so it would look bad to cancel in my opinion.
      All good. It happens. I’m actually at the gig rn, it’s not bad at all. Very easy and decent pay.

      Even worse when you travel outside your country ...I had a job last Month in Finland (multicam) no room for error 8 cam in 2 Backpack good logistic...and no room for error...40h trip inclusive the event (concert) and the flight from Geneva (CH)no crew all solo...and great results thx to Hybrid Small FF Cam and planification...5 years ago I would been able to pull out a job like that...without a crew and big cams...nowdays it is incredible the IQ you can get from almost any brand...

      @@davidmorefield I was thinking that in the filmmaking people should have more collaboration and loose form of cooperations with gigs and project...a syndicate of creator which could Help in overbooking time and time when the jobs are rare...sharing gears,jobs,inspiration and ideas...and where the💵💵 is not the main interest...probably I would been by called by American Standart "socialist" but In a hard field like this...maybe it could be the way to go...pass the rental houses with just a bunch of high qualified collaborators which are sharing...I am probably too utopian "Jesus" style😂😂😂

    Why do you feel you had such commitment to that PA job? When other better jobs came along? If it was DP, I would understand, but as a utility job, I'm sure they or even you could fill that role easily after you can let them know in advanced.

    • @davidmorefield
      @davidmorefield  3 месяца назад

      It’s bc I didn’t know in advance. I was contracted for utility about a month out. Then 4 days before the gig, all of the other inquiries started coming in.
      I bring in contractors for my gigs sometimes and I would hate it if they did that to me. Also since I share it on YT, I don’t want to have that reputation as someone who bails and just goes to the highest bidder.
      But there’s always new gigs coming up.
