I _never_ realized when Megamind shrieks "Don't look at me!" at 13:11 everyone in the restaurant turns their head away. It's such a subtle touch to show how much control he holds over the city that his private plea would be taken so seriously by other people.
Whats even funnier is there is a baby who looks away as well in this scene, but its covered up by ame unfortunately

It's a good gag
"Subtle" isn't the right word but it is a great gag. Reminds me of something you'd see in a Naked Gun film.
"The warden's not a bad guy! :D" if you think about it, he is the closest thing to a father/grandfather MegaMind has.
And he was only ever disappointed in megamind never cruel or abusive yet when they go off to save the city he wishes them luck i think your right the warden definitely is dad/grandpa
@@xxdankmormonkushmasterxx9953 i think hes disappointed because megamind could have use his mind to do good things but use it to take over the city
@@klyedlaserdeath5541 hey, you know what they say, _"local action for global change."_
eh, if you read the newspaper clips in the credits you'll see that people actually were up in arms about an infant being kept as a prisoner and he was the biggest advocate for keeping him locked up, saying that he just _knows_ he's evil.
my headcannon is that it's a whole government conspiracy to create a villain for metroman to fight against to ensure that metroman himself doesn't turn to villainy, since if he did he would be nigh unstoppable. Warden is in on it and sort of raised him to be evil and think he could never be anything more, but behind the act everyone involved thought was necessary he does recognize megamind's situation and there is some kind of loose parental bond.
Nice to have a legit good and interesting Superman take that isn’t about a dumb evil Superman that makes no sense.

I feel like giving unlimited power to a single person and that ending up in them becoming almost cartoonishly evil makes a ton of sense considering it happens all the time in real life.
I mean look at basically every single dictator ever, hell just look at Putin for the most recent example.
4:22 that one flicker on Metro Man's camera was the exact moment he used his super speed. It shows on his facial expressions too.
God I love that detail.
He even appears in Megamind's camera for like one frame at the exact same time.
The invisible car was also actually in that one scene in the rain. the attention to detail in this movie was amazing. Shrek and HtTYD might have bangers but this was an underrated gem.
wow
That's insane. It really does just look like a flicker at normal speed, but when you slow down, you can actually see him move.
Ame's right Megamind did have a very good soundtrack, I mean there aren't too many animated movies out there boast a killer classic rock/pop soundtrack featuring such staples as AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, ELO, Guns and Roses and Michael Jackson.

@@bakacdaz no, still not anything like shrek
@@erickmejia4602 The badguy thats perceived as evil turns out to be a misunderstood good guy?
Yeah I think calling it shrek is fitting. It’s the shrek of its time.
Shrek was made in response to parody Disney fairytales.
Megamind was made in response to parody the superhero genre.
megamind is one of my favorite movies ever. Mostly because instead of the typical arc where everything returns to normal at the end, nothing returns to normal. the Hero stays in retirement, the bad guy becomes the good guy, and all the callout references to stereotypical hero movie tropes. It breaks all the stereotypes. and it's great.
I can't stnand the "and everything returned to normal~" endings, like okay if everything is the same then why the fuck did I watch this lmao
That is the difference between a classic and a mediocre movie:
*PRESENTATION*
_cue soundtrack_
Supposedly the "super villain turning superhero" thing is a trope, but this movie does a great job representing such a cartoony idea in such a realistic way. Rather than seeing the error of his ways, spontaneously turning a new leaf, or having no reason to be a villain in the first place, megamind had a reason to be evil: he desired attention because he didn't have a way to fit in and moreover convinced himself that the good vs evil archetype was normal and a way for him to fit in in another sense. There were so many kids that struggled with the same problem in my elementary, kids that resigned themselves to being the "weird kid" for attention, so it's actually an extremely useful message.
And then you got Roxanne being the damsel in distress who is just some random lady roped into these shenanigans with no obligation to date anyone as thanks but faces someone who thinks he was entitled to her even before becoming a "super hero". A perfect representation of the "nice guy" culture that wasn't even necessary for the main character's arc.
And THEN you have the surprisingly nuanced Metro Man, someone unsympathetic to megamind as a kid and who became a douchebag in both personality and by deciding to let the city fall. Yet on the other hand, the way he treated megamind was because of his own upbringing, and there's also the question of whether it's really wrong for him to want to retire. And this moral conflict is perfectly hinted at by him acting like douchebag while also wanting to give sincere advice to Megamind because Metro Man still leans towards moral good even if he's not willing to be the hero himself.
These themes are so enriched and very concisely portrayed. It's just *chef's kiss*
@@someweeb3650 I mean a movie (or series, etc) doesn't necessarily have to change so much in the end to be good, it can, but if it doesnt, it could still work 😭 if pretty much the whole thing was entertaining then you still got something out of it
Isn't that also how episodic series work lol
@@louise4152 I agree. It's usually more interesting if something changes but everything going back to normal can still often work if that was the goal all along & the characters achieved it in an interesting way or if a character wanted change for unhealthy reasons but eventually learned to appreciate what they have.

One of my favorite things about this movie is how it doesn't really cast judgement on Metroman for his decision. I like Spider-man a lot, but "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility" isn't something that can apply to everyone. Metroman never asked for his powers or to be a nonstop hero. He's sacrificing his happiness and his life for others, but he doesn't do it by choice. Why shouldn't he have the ability to find happiness? The movie poses that question and doesn't answer it, which I think is great and complex without being preachy or pretentious.
Saccing happiness and life of oneself kind of reminds me of soldiers that suffers from ptsd after the war they fight in, one of the notable example is probably audie murphy but then again you become a soldier by choice and not born one like superhero markiplier over here
@@krisnaputramaulidan2843So regular Markiplier
not gonna lie, i find the "your weakness is.... COPPER!?" line to be EXTREMELY funny. like, hyper mundane element, and super smart guy NEVER EVER even entertained that idea
I just love that this movie had the confidence to let the viewer come to their own conclusions on MetroMan.
On one hand, he faked his death because he knew MegaMind could be a hero if he just had the chance, which he’d never have, as long as MetroMan was there to keep their game going. But on the other hand, he did leave MegaMind to cause a lot of destruction before he eventually got bored.
He also chose music as his new passion, specifically because he was bad at it, and his powers couldn’t help him improve, which really speaks to his character. But at the same time, he could have just tried to talk to MegaMind, but he instead chose to keep the public perception of him being a hero intact, by not revealing that he knew MegaMind was just a troubled soul, the whole time.
A flawed but generally likable character... That's what makes a character great.
Not to mention both are actually cared for each other. I mean, keeping up those charades with throwing commentaries at each other flawlessly like that? There's no way they aren't buddies.
Even Megamind complimented MetroMan's song when he played it with his guitar. They're truly what "frienenemies" is like
On another hand, even knowing that there was a dangerous villain destroying the city, he still refused to help.
So yeah, nuanced.
@@ShadeSlayer1911 Having superhuman abilities shouldn’t obligate him to spend his life helping a bunch of strangers for nothing but their gratitude in return.
@@JohnBrown-tw2qi That depends on your personal philosophy. Under some people's philosophies, yes, it absolutely does.
Like Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsibility." MCU Spidey put it in a less catchy but also more explicit way. "When you can do the things I can, and you don't do anything to stop the bad things, those bad things happen because of you," or something like that. Under that philosophy, having the ability to do good but refusing to do it means you're the one allowing bad things to happen, and so that means a superhuman who is good absolutely is obligated, morally speaking, to spend their life being a superhero.
Captain America has a similar outlook as well, though by the end of MCU Cap's arc, he kinda changed his mind.
Outside of specific superheroes, there is also the saying "all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing."
Narratively speaking, it's hard to suggest that a superpowered character is a truly good person if they choose not to use their powers for good. Of course, that is an oversimplification, and there's other factors that affect this stance. But generally speaking, a superpowered good person should be trying to use their powers to save people or do good in some way.

This movie is completely a masterpiece! Not only it has classic 2000s humors, hidden Easter eggs, fitting soundtracks, is well animated, well planned plot, but also it teaches us an important life lesson of how not all 'villains' are bad and not all 'heroes' are good.
13:38 just noticed that the invisible car is behind him here.
Roxanne absolutely clowning on Megamind during her kidnapping gets me every time.
This movie is sorely underrated and overlooked due to Despicable Me, which really can't even hold a candle to it. Wish we'd gotten a sequel.
I remember being so salty as a kid when I heard there's a Despicable Me 2 but no Megamind 2. Absolutely ignored those minion toys in McDonald's or some big fast food chain here because of how salty I am lol.
It was also satisfying to see Megamind clown her by having her give Metroman the wrong location so he can zap him with the death ray lol. Though of course, it didn't last long. xd
Megamind is a masterpiece and it should remain that way, having too many sequels will only ruin it
It ends perfectly but I kinda hope for a sequel within the same universe. It doesn't have to be Megamind focused, maybe a supervillain minion who wanted to be a musician? It will parallel nicely with Music Man as well. Imagine creating a band and not knowing you're playing with Metro Man, his arch enemy, lol. And even more mindblowing if Megamind, the city's hero, is coming to their concert and then finding out they're old buddies.

You know it's only now that I realize Metroman did the "You're Breathtaking!" Before Keanu did.
I always find megamind and bee movie fascinating since they’re both dreamworks movies that cane out and I honestly cant remember anybody really caring about, only to be rediscovered years later and gaining a cult following for entirely different reasons; bee movie for being absolutely insane and having a mostly ironic fanbase, while megamind was a diamond in the rough with some surprisingly great writing that’s only gotten more poignant with the rise of the MCU and the growing awareness of incel culture in characters like titan all make the movie really ahed of its time.

Sigh, glad to see Megamind is getting more appreciation. I've enjoyed it when it first came out. Better than Despicable Me in my opinion.
Minion is better than the minions.
Despicable me was good not as good as Megamind but man the sequel are down grade you get the sense it was a demanded by executive to milk more money and these day company want a franchise out everything and hurt I hinder artist and creator which is why you see remake and sequel alot and also anything they don't seem safe will get eliminate look how Disney have been toward LGBTQA+ character it gotta be under the radar you can't show them being gay because Disney is afraid it'll piss off the Chinese government or conservative in the westand Disney was the biggest funder of the don't say gay bill show how artist are in conflict with corporation at times
No such thing as the "don't say gay bill", don't get fooled by propoganda.
The bill some leftists call "don't say gay" bans all talk of sex and romance for young kids, not just homosexuality, because it's an anti-groomer bill. Teachers shouldn't be allowed to talk about sex with 5 year olds. Especially without permission from the parents.
It doesn't ban it for teens and it doesn't ban it in general. Just banning it in schools for children too young to talk about sex. The bill doesn't even say 'gay' once in it.
Go read it for yourself and you will see.
Anyone conflating this with homosexuality is either a homophobe (by thinking grooming = homosexuality) or a groomer trieing to create false outrage by those too lazy to actually read the bill to protect their grooming practices (as they want to talk to 5 year olds about heterosexual and/or homosexual sex without the parent's permission)
"Theres no military or anything" I mean, everyone just watched him kill metroman, I think any military would be too scared to try and fight him
two of the most beautiful things in this movie is 1) Metroman was the first person to actually think that Megamind had good in him... 2) the warden actually sent Megamind to have an education...
damn i just realize hal (titan) didn't even tap into the true power of his borrowed power like goddamn metro man just had gone to light speed or something and this "hero" is so slow compared to him
Metro man had his power since birth and Hal only had it for like a month or something.
Bro: Come on man, The worst thing she could say is NO
Her: Do you REALLY think, I would EVER be with a guy like YOU?
Metroman had everything set up for him to be the pompous, righteous goody two shoes superhero like maybe Superman. But damn he's actually pretty relatable. My 2nd favourite character from this movie
Superman isn't like that when written properly. JL animated has the best Superman imo, he's just a farm kid trying to do the right thing.
Both are chained by their destiny.
That why he choose to retire to find his dream he choosing by himself.

I still can't believe they casted Markiplier as Metroman.
Sad that this movie was overshadowed by Despicable Me since they came out at around the same time.
Hal is SUCH a "nice guy"
Megamind is honestly a super underrated movie, I think the star studded cast might’ve initially made people overlook how well written this movie is, and the subtle jokes added into the background by animators really add to both the story and comedy. I’m glad people are finally rediscovering the potential of this movie.

Megamind is legit one of my favorite movies. It's nothing amazing, but I really like how it isn't your typical superhero movie where it's Good guy versus Bad guy. It is unique in that it makes the villain of the movie become a good guy. It's very similar to Wreck It Ralph in that Megamind wants to be good because he's grown tired of being known as the "bad guy." The amount of ways the movie pokes fun about other superhero movies is also very well done.
