If you turn up the “DRIVE” to about 12 O' clock, on the American Sound, you’ll get more presence and clarity when you back off of the volume. (I noticed you kept yours at about 10/12 for most of the video, then you turned it down to 8/12) I personally think the Klon and The A/S blend very well together. if you do it right, it brings out more sparkle and thickens the tone. I have the Archer Gold and the A/S along with the Tech 21 Flyrig 5. Occasionally the UZI. If I can recommend ANY pedal, i’d say my favorite is the Carl Martin AMPSTER. It has built in tubes with all analog circuits to give you amp tone straight into the house, or PA. I think it’s a must have for those that don't have an amp sim.
@@adnap Thanks for the tip! However personally I don't really like the drive sound out of the A/S. That's why I use it more as a clean pedal platform. And add the drive by using pedals in front of it. Actually the same way I would use a real Fender amp.
@ No, I get that. But at the middle position, if your pickup isn’t being pushed hot, you’ll get a clean sound out of it. I just got mine today and I was testing it with my Archer, and with or without it, I get more presence and clarity at the middle position. But when I backed off, it lost some of that, and became more muddy and muffled. Try it. Let me know what you think. Just make sure you’re not getting any gain crunch, and it should work. UNLESS you’re picking the strings with force, it should sound clean.
@adnap Nice! Definitely worth a try then. These days I mostly use the Simplifier as my pedalboard amp. But the A/S is still a great option for very little money.
@ I traded out my Joyo Vintage OD, for the AS, and so far I feel like it was a massive upgrade for my live tone. I play a lot of songs with clean, fat sparkle and Matchbox 20, and similar 90’s Rock and Grunge work great for that sound. I wasn’t quite getting it with the Klon, or combined with the Vintage OD, even through my Carl Martin Ampster pedal. I use a Tech 21 Fly Rig, but mostly for delay, the tuner and as a quick boost for more sustain during leads. As an OD, It sounds great but the Blonde, it darkens the clean sound a bit too much for my taste.
Seems like everyone exclusively uses the American Sound on the Blackface voicing. I've always had vintage Fender Blackface amps, so I bought the American Sound as an affordable way to get close to aTweed sound. Actually does a pretty decent job, and when I use it this way I have no need for an overdrive pedal. Goes clean to driven with the guitars volume knob or even just by varying how hard/lightly you play the strings.
Yeah I mostly use it with that voicing too, although I sometimes change the voice settings to mix things up a bit. As you say it's perfectly useable without an additional overdrive using the volume on the guitar. But I do like the Joyo almost clean and pairing it up with the Azor overdrive. That's just a really pleasing overdrive sound to my ears. In any case hard to go wrong with this little box.
Great demoing!, im revisiting the AM SOUND and have the Mosky Silver Horse ( kinda same as the Golden but an adde d switch...), I dont play real strats but Yamaha Pacificas which dont have staggered poles, so.....
Thanks! Yeah the Silver Horse is a very good bang for buck too. And so are the Yamaha Pacifica guitars. I'm sure that combination will work great with the American Sound 😀
Hello @Rudy Bressers, please, one question, if the price of the American Sound would be 100 dollars, would you buy it? Do you think this pedal is good enough to cost 100 dollars?
Hi! That's a good question. I think even if it would cost almost 100 dollar it would still be a good sounding pedal. Only for that money you might be able to buy something that has more sounds or effects.
Nice sounds, but I like the amp sounds better (from your other video, I mean), with a little more grit from the AM. They keep producing/rebranding this pedal and I think is great as it is, but a two channel version would be killer.
Yeah I think I would have to agree. A two channel version would be great to be able to switch between a clean and crunch/drive channel... Maybe they'll put out something like that in the future and hopefully still keep it affordable.
Well, you could buy two of them, a signal splitter, and an ab/y pedal, and still have less invested than the cost of one Tech21 SansAmp 😁 In fact, I'm thinking of doing just that!
I would do that, but unfortunately I don't have those overdrive pedals. Maybe someday I will have a chance to try those out. I do have a few other overdrive pedals I'm going to demo soon, so I will try out the American Sound with a few new pedals.
You're welcome! Personally I put the drive pedals first (whichever one, doesn't really matter). Most often I will put the most subtle drive or boost pedal first, then followed by the more 'thick' overdrive or a distortion pedal. Then after that the amp (in this case the American Sound).
@@RudyBressers nice i think i did the same way from right is my mosky golden horse next boss ds1 next black secret mooer and last is joyo american ? what can you say?
My fuzz face and Hyper Fuzz have totally different character into any of the Joyo character pedals. I dislike it to the point where I stopped using Joyos...it's not a bad sound per se (much woolier and darker), but I have those fuzz pedals for how they sound. If they now sound different, then that defeats the purpose!
You could definitely do that. Personally I'd rather use a separate overdrive, so I can switch it on and off during playing. Also I like the sound of some drive pedals better. But that's very subjective of course.
@@RudyBressers It does make sense to buy a separate overdrive for quick switching purposes. i guess for now ill stick with my tele neck to bridge pick up switching haha
@@RudyBressers Another question about tele usage with pedals. Do i need "something" to make it work be loud enough? tele -> "something" -> american sound -> "normal" speakers. (i dont have an amp amp hahaha)
@@kissapeles No that's not necessary. You could place a booster pedal before it to drive the AS a little more. But if you like the sound you're getting now, then there's no reason to do that :).
You did not really compare using an OD pedal to just turning up the gain on the American Sound. Maybe you did that in another video ??? I have the American Sound but not an Overdrive pedal.
Indeed, I did that in a different video, demoing clean tones and drive tones on the American Sound only. This was more a kind of follow-up to see if the unit also sounds OK with separate overdrives.
just tried it with my fav peds: Mad Prof Simble, TC El MojoMojo, Demon Tube Screamer n Nobels ODR-1: strattype neck::: NICE N THICK FENDER TONE, no extra hiss tho its a preamp pedal, keeping the treb an drive quite moderate and voice and bass mid voice int he middle position, it actually adds a Fenderish quality to my Yam Pac 112V , altough I m not looking for any pure tone...ITS A KEEPER AND I HAVE ANOTHER ONE IN THE CLOSET..., cheers and goodnite...
Very nice! Those are some good pedals. And indeed the American Sound can make your amp sound more like a Fender when you use it as a preamp. Not noisy at all, and for the money it's really a steal. Have fun playing! 🤟😁
That's fucking clones!! How this pedal couldn't handle OD when the Tech21 ones can...?? People doesn't understand the price doesn't make the tone, and you can open your pedal and take a look inside, you will see Joyo use quality components with 1% metal resistors, polypropylene capacitors and branded electrolytic caps (nichicon most of the time) like the great companies who charge you four or five times the price of the Joyo one!!
Absolutely, I find there is nothing wrong with the Joyo AS and how it takes overdrives. The price difference is undoubtedly mostly due to very different hourly wages (and different sales margins) depending on the country where a pedal is manufactured. Like you said It doesn't automatically mean that lesser components were used.
@@RudyBressers Glad to see the great demo bc I am thinking about buying one of this to be the pedal platform. Want to mention sth about the price, it's not too much about the hourly wage and the country. Other guitar rig companies in China like Hotone also produce relatively pricey stuffs. I would say Joyo is the only company who is really offering the best value out of its price 😂 it's awesome for what it does
I even use a fuzz pedal in front of the joyo american sound. Sounds really good.
I have used the Cuvave Fuzz in front of the Joyo AS, sounded pretty nice too :)

In this video just the built in cab sim from the Joyo American Sound.
does this pedal have balanced output? it says in their site that this is basically a DI
Unbalanced is my guess.
Where did you place your american sound in the chain? First? Middle? Or last?
Last in the chain. If you have an amp without FX loop, then you would also place the pedals first, before the amp.
