Mike Oldfield's music is not primitive rock n roll music to drink beer and sing along to in any bar. His music is very intelligent and considered music creation on a completely different level. Like Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach or Bethoven.
This man was born to make music.
This man IS music
Music was born to make Mike
The Child was Born
to be a King...
a King...
And the Time has Come.
He IS music!
and I was born to listen to him…
god, he is one phenomenal bass player, even just hearing him for a few seconds, just blew me away!
And he started this incredible orchestral masterpiece when he was just 17! A friend had bought the LP and said "you've gotta come and hear this!", straight to the record shop on my way home to get my own copy which was sold out, another 2 weeks before more came in. Many, many moons ago..... Now old and grey but it was a great time to be alive musically.
love love to sit down and have a beer with this fella
Im in tears....
50 years ago….still one of the most inspirational pieces of music ever written…
I absolutely love everything He has done for my musical enjoyment
I have used his recordings over the years as a reference for upgrading auduio equipment like Mike. I know when all the instruments change, I love it
When vinyl and tapes were how we assessed audio equipment.
Wonderful times.
Oldfield is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. His tone is wonderful. Sweet and precise. Classical like in it's phrasing.
Mike is the best
@arnoldvomberg1955 The best?
He a living legend. Nuff said,ok.
I remember listening to an interview where he spoke about not being able to sleep, this was due to when he closed his eyes he couldn’t escape his brain being constantly filled with melodies and musical ideas. He said at the time it was utter torture, a condition that only the truly gifted suffer. He was only in his twenties at the time, I wonder if he’s managed to control it now. He’s an amazing musician and man.
Mike was actually around 17 when he began compiling the ideas for the album and 19 when he recorded it. A truly astonishing achievement for someone so young, not to mention his mastery over so many instruments.
I have this and yes it is torture! I listen to white noise at night which really helps.
The greatest british composer alive. Period!
ss
But most people can't understand his music, I never understood why he wasn't loved and revered by everyone.
@Aqua Fyre Oldfield. Although he has achieved significant success, he hasn't got close to the Beatles or Pink Floyd for eg and I don't consider his music inherently inferior to those groups output. I think he is a rare case of his music being too difficult for most people, they simply can't understand it.
@@Coneman3 songs will always be more popular than Oldfield long instrumentals within the popular music culture
In the past we Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Handel etc etc the old masters..and today we have Mike Oldfield..the modern Master...need I say more??!!
No other musician is as brilliant as he is!
Impossible to respect him as he supports Trump without question, and just lives around in tax paradises..
He s pretty well installed! Fully equipped in the Bahamas :) enjoy Mike! Thanks for these emotions!
My childhood was simply listening to every Mike Oldfield Album I could get my hands on ...amazing..genius
I can relate to that for some years
50 years later, still the greatest music I have ever heard
an incredibly talented and underrated musician
I am his big fan last 40 years. I listen almost every day, depends of my mood, but alveys start or finish day with his music. He is genius. Period. And totally underrated. Young people never heard for him and they don't gave idea what they missing. I wish him long life and more new music
thats absolutly true
It’s hard to believe he wrote and recorded this at 19 years of age amazing
👍
Underrated how?
If anyone likes Pink Floyd or Frank Zappa, well then you have to like Mike Oldfield.
One of the best musicians of my life time! Pure genius
Wonderful , then and now . A Visionary , A Genius .
A true British original should be Knighted for his body of work and contribution to art
I couldn't agree more Craig. For years I always thought it was Jeff from ELO but as I've grown older, come round to your way of thinking
sir Mike. Yes, I would like to see that happen.
@@noersang Honours system is a joke but I'm sure Mike would like it. He loved doing the Olympics.
Thank GOD, the satanic BREXIT family left him alone...
Tubular Bells was my lullaby when I was in my teens. I listened to it over my headphones when anxieties wouldn't let me sleep. What a masterpiece.
To just be able to sit in the same room as this Genius would be humbling and motivating! His gift and talents were so far ahead of anything we could provide him with technologically and yet he still produced some of the most enormous productions ever. If Howard Hughes had been a musician instead, this is the likeness to what he might have produced.
A completely new era in music history began with Tubular Bells! Mike Oldfield has opened this chapter and enriched it forever with an incredible wealth of musical pearls!
Total genius,the best
This man is an unrecognised genius....his music is modern classical standard plus !
Fantastic Mike Oldfield. Tubular Bells is the longest hit in the history of modern music.
My favorite, his music is timeless.
timeless as my favourite music GROUP named 'Clannad'! :-) :-)
As an Aussie, Mike is a musical genius. The Live At Horse Guards Parade London is an absolute masterpiece on DVD. Pepsi DeMacque and Cara Dillon sing with angelic voices. Australia loves you Mike. Is a tour down under possible.
My life wouldn't have been the same without Tubular Bells. Never tired of listening to it in fifty years. Thanks so much to this amazing man.
Saw Mike Oldfield perform in Melbourne at the Concert Hall in 1983 wow what a gig Maggie Riley on vocals Pierre Moerlin on Drums and Maurice Pert his Guitar sound like Bag pipes he performed the original version of Tubular Bells which is the best version my other favourite lp he wrote was Ommadawn i play his pieces always on my guitars
My favourite writer and performer of all time...Brilliant
Absolute musical genius. Flawed socially but THE finest composer of the era. No one plays guitar like this guy. Man in the rain contains the best riff ever recorded.
Genius. Nothing more to add. Guitar? Kirk Hammett, Saul Hudson, they are genius of a guitar i think. With all respect!
Castaway solo is the best
@@AlexGomez-74 matter of personal taste mate which is why he is the greatest of modern musicians.
@@grahamkerr3653 Of course he is
You've nailed.it....
His music n melody is simply outstanding, dream invoking, futuristically inspiring!! Mike Oldfield...the legend!!🙏❤️
I Just love ❤❤❤his art , this is not only music this is really art ❤❤😶
Great Mike, I adore you and your music.
For anybody interested... our Italian commenter wrote: .. "TUBULAR BELLS ... positive, beautiful, refined sounds that go beyond Rock ... indeed ... Rock must say THANK YOU to this Opera. Sounds created by the Piano, Spanish Guitar, Mandolin, instruments that have an important history. And then there is the AUTHOR of this work, which needs no introduction. Over time T.B. has never had any rivals nor in similarity, so we find originality from start to finish. Personally this music makes me think of a walk with its Pic-Nic in the hills ... where the scents and sounds of Nature mix with each other."
I hope technology catches up to him before he dies
he's a once existence talent and I hope that he is able to fully express himself before time takes him from us
....It was my very first LP in fact, aged 10. My father brought it along from the UK to Holland in '73. I first heard the entire LP on Dutch national radio (late at night when the best music can be heard on radio....) and was immediately struck by it. For me it stood out way above the "boring" pop-music that would be played on most radio stations, most of the time.
I like Tubular Bells to this very day !
I bought In dulce jubilo in 1975 when I was 10 years old. I had older brothers who I was influenced by. His music stood out to me immediately with such great effect that even at that age It evoked huge emotion in me, so much so that I joined my school choir as a soprano even though I was very shy.
Mann, das Stück kenn ich in und auswendig und es ist immer noch das beste was ich je gehört habe. Mike ist für mich einer der größten...
This man is a Legend a Real music composition (not just in guitar or other organs that he plays) genious 👌
Watch and learn kids.
seems like a genuinely nice guy
Great Musician...Greets From Poland !
One of the world's masterpieces
never gets old..!!....am 58 and my grand daughter loves his music, allways play it if she sleeps at my house, she says it helps her chill, she is almost 17....who plays this well nowadays ????
Multiinstrumental Genius ! Poland Love Mike Oldfield ;-)
I'll never forget the first time I heard TUBULAR BELLS. It was 1973, early one morning while I was still in bed. The less well-known Side 2 of the album was being played on a Monterey California FM radio station. I was mesmerized, and later that day I went over to Odyssey Records on Cannery Row and grabbed my copy. What memories... SIDE NOTE: This was well before anyone knew anything about _The Exorcist,_ btw, and I'm glad about that. I think getting to know the work without that connection is somehow better (Even though _The Exorcist_ is coincidentally one of my all-time favorite films.) Nearly fifty years later... Wow... Thanks for posting this...
I am so happy that you have pointed out that Tubular Bells was released before it was the music of the exorcist.Thank you
@@jenniferwatson7769 yes... and if you haven't heard the entire original TUBULAR BELLS i urge to you to discover it... there's some beautiful music in there... (and the part associated with the EXORCIST is really a very small piece of it) ☮💟🌍
@@o.b.v.i.u.s I do remember the original, I've likely still got it
I remember ommadawn as well. Have you any idea how Mike and Sally, Oldfield were related?
@@jenniferwatson7769 brother and sister. They make same good music together. They have one more brother hu play flute. He is also very good.
@@Marina-rt6ok Thanks for clearing that up for me, I knew I was right, but I won't argue a point until I check my facts. I have gone deeper into Mike's music, When I heard his covers of the 'dark island' I was blown away by it, it's one of my favourite Scottish Songs, pure genius......
I love the 7 and 8 bar combination . Yes it subconsciously keeps one more engaged.
The last music composer, on this level , MASTER . ❤❤❤
Its a mortal sin and really unfair that Mike isn't knighted. I mean, good god man, Richard Branson is knighted and he wouldn't be a billionaire without Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells.
Mike seems like the type of guy who wouldn't accept it.
I’m not so sure. He’s more conventional than his music would suggest.
Absolutely right!
His has a key to London right?
He is one of the best musisciians of the last century
True master with a great personality.
The soundtrack to my life
Ed Sheehan uses loop pedals, Mike uses raw power, grit and determination. The difference between modern music and old school.
What a great guy ! i'm really impressed. Creating something like Tubular bell alone in a manor...
Absolute genius. Closest I’ll get to seeing him in concert.
I remember being at school when this one was doing the rounds. It was about 1979, six tears after release, it was still a massive thing. It's still a massive thing, still talked about and regarded as a masterpiece. Everyone knows the iconic intro. It is part of our musical history. Us "buskers" can only dream of such a legacy.
How is it that I am only finding this footage now? You have no idea how often I have searched; Most significant artist in my life because I discovered him myself; it wasn’t the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin, it was the moment I realized I had my own taste in music and art
How proud must he be today for the legacy of this piece of music.
I used one of mike old fields songs in one of my videos and now he’s all over my for you page
Absolute Masterpiece.
It’s really pretty awesome seeing all of the subtleties laid out… It’s stuff I wouldn’t have noticed
I listened to this on a tape recorder from the age of 9 and after al these years is his music timeles! Wouw !! Mike it has given me a lot of strength in difficult times!!! thanks thanks!!
What a genius. Takes me back to when l was 14.
Been a fan since I was 11 years old
Always love this song!!
Great watch this video, thanks a lot!!!
You are welcome. Have a good new year.
I really like the bass during the "heart" part. Where the bass hit long note, stops and then hit note at odd time. It's orgasmic
You Are Soo Brilliant, You're The Go To Musician To Lift My Soul. "God Bless Mike
You are the soundtrack of my life... Thank you
Great time and really good dope from Nepal and woven Hashish from Kashmir.
Mike you are the best !!!!
per me questo uomo è un mito , non smetterò mai di ringraziarlo 🙏🏻
One off the best to walk on earth his music is pure classic.
Tubular Bells was the first LP I ever owned and 40 + years later I am still fascinated by its interwoven complexity and at the same time simplicity its amazing incomparable brilliant and timeless. Side 2 was always the best. Thank you Mike. Ps “ Glockenspiel ! “
Same with me - was the very first record I bought in my life. I'm 54 years old and I bought it in the early 80th
Tubular Bells 2 is one of the rare examples in art that notably surpassed the original. Almost everything about is better than the older version - compositions, the arrangements, the mix, the sound quality, the voices, the instruments, literally everything! TB3 fell in the usual pattern of failing to eclipse 2.
Yet all of them are great in their own right.
Genius! Thats all :)
If I could only hear one more tune before I leave this earth, Tubular Bells would be it
Lovely memories. Everything is there. Good question , " How do you create a climax in such a compendium of tunes?"
Mike The Legend ! Un guitariste et compositeur hors norme. Les albums sont un vrai régal, avec les voix de Maggy, Anita et celles qui ont suivi. J'ai la nostalgie de Islands et Hearth moving ! Longue vie à toi Mike !
Thank you for sharing ❤
I never loke "Tubular Bells" that much, but I absolutely loved the second one "Hergest Ridge" and "Ommadawn", they were musically extremely rich... I listened to those 2 albums for years. Absolutely amazing how he managed to record this with analogue instruments virtually on his own.
My favorite part of this is when he forgets he's plugged in and has a minor mishap with the cord. I only discovered him within the past month, but to me this epitomizes who and what he is: too busy and full of ideas to bother with perfection. The _essence_ of what he does is perfect, so the flaws in the _execution_ only serve to remind me of his humanity, which gives his works a warmth I have come to love. He's an imperfect -- though impressive! -- vessel channeling brilliant things in from beyond.
Hey I love Mike from my younger years being Reed up with music in the day
Happy Birthday Mr Oldfield
Love this❤.
a magnifique musique
BRAVO,BRAVO ,BRAVO !!!!!THX SO MUCH FOR THE GREAT VIBES !!!!❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥💯💯💯
This man is music.
If i could I'd put an INFINITY of thumbs up...
Genius at work
Plain genious!
Thank's for my definition as a young man!
I was lucky enough to sing in a band with a multi-instrumentalist a little bit like Mike & they just transform what is possible. It was a special time.
Mike has such a lovely temperament & he's clearly fun to be with. What a superb bloke.
It's fun to see him running Pro-tools rather than a big multi-track Ampex & mixer. I've worked around both & it's SO different. Much more flexible.
Good hair for an older chap.
Amazing footage.
I really loved (and still do it) his music.
TB is a true masterpiece without time.
"Человек музыки!" Люблю его творчество! Приветствую всех из России!)
He uses the same exact vibrato technique as I do on the guitar, I call it the classical vibrato technique, whereas he calls it the violin vibrato technique, he is a hugely talented musician, I really should start listening to his music more.
Zbużyłeś mi tym całe Tubular Bells. Dzięki!
Legend
Bonsoir Mike !!!!!!

Tu es un génie de la musique !!!! 👏👏👏💛💛💛🎶🎶🎶🎶🎧💪💪💪
