- Many of the woods I use are from trees that are cleared for construction. This is wood that would otherwise be burned or end up in a landfill.
To me, it is exciting to find the hidden beauty in a chunk of wood. Even a very plain piece of wood offers design opportunities. When working with plain wood, I often enhance the wood by carving or burning. My carved and burned designs mimic textures and patterns found in nature.

That's a really pretty piece ,and your video was very enjoyable Heather. Thank you for sharing. Hope to see you next time
Thank you so much Albert!!
Edge torching added a good contrast, yet still looked pretty natural. Good shape too.
Thanks 😊
That turned out nice Heather! It didn't fly too far! 🤣
Thanks Todd! I didn't have the speed up that high, for it to fly far
Like the shape and rim, nice job, Heather.
Thanks Jim! Much appreciated 💚
Very nice, Heather!
That's a nice bowl Heather, even though it came off the chuck once, it's a great result.
Thank you!
Nice job. Love the burn on the edge.
Thanks John🙂
Really nice piece. I like the character of the natural edge.
Great job! Looks wonderful.
Bonjour. .Ouah c'est tout simplement magnifique ,j'adore.👍
Looks good!
Nice piece Heather...glad it hit the floor and not you...stay safe...press on 😎 Joe
Job well done Heather. There is a fine line between too much pressure and then not enough pressure with using a mortise. I have experienced many flying bowls so know the feeling well. The end piece looks amazing well done. Thanks for sharing. i like the worm groves on the edge as it gives it character.
Thanks, Bruce! We have to keep things interesting, don't we?!

You must have AI in your camera 'cause it knew the chuck wasn't tight enough in the mortise. Should've watched the vid before you began cutting the inside eh ? At least it was still chunky and didn't come apart at the cracks. I love to turn my headstock too - it's much easier to avoid the line-of-flight !! And dang it Heather, watching you turn a half-log like this makes me think I can brave trying to too. And before I go - came out very nice ! Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike
Thanks Mike! Definitely should have watched the video! These bowls are pretty cool!
