Keep on trucking! I hope that at some point in the future, you'll do a comparison of the PCT to the AT. I'll stay tuned for your adventures on the CDT. You know you gotta do it. 🙂
Patch work is definitely it! Makes for some challenging logistics. I’m guessing some of these sections may not reopen this year or even possibly next year - time will tell.
It's great you're back hiking with Monk and that you can fill in those miles together. I don't think I could handle the logistics of a PCT hike. Being a bit older, I like moving in a direct line; I admire your fortitude. Thanks for the shout out.
Thank you again 🙏. The logistics in the initial planning and now planning as I go has been much more difficult than any other trail I’ve hiked. I was mentally prepared that flipping around would be needed, but all these fires was far more than I ever thought would happen.
It looks like a continuous PCT thru hike is becoming a thing of the past. Many hikers have had to reroute, skip ahead, return the following year, etc, to complete the trail. And sometimes a burned section will remain closed, due to the high risk from dead tree blow downs. Sad to see for sure.😮
The fire season has been really bad this year, I’m not at all affected by it except for smoke. But I hope everyone is ok. I’m blessed to live in Alabama which is very wet in the summer.
Yeah seems like the heat wave has been nationwide. Most of the fires on the west coast were started from lightning strikes. From what I learned prescribed burns are rarely if ever done anymore out west like they once were - back east they are done quite frequently. AL does a great job doing prescribed burns which is a huge help.
@@BearTrekAdventures oh ya, AL is amazing at proscribed burns. I see at least a couple a month. I’ve got 1000 acres down in southern Alabama, We have a giant burn every couple years.
Haha 😂. I know it must be confusing because it’s ALOT to figure out on trail to get to sections I had to skip. New Olympus are soso - 60 miles and they haven’t fallen apart yet 🤣
Glad to see that you’re hiking with Monk again, it’s nice to have someone I’m sure with all these changes on the trail. That sucks for all PCT hikers for sure. At least you’re already doing the ones you’ve missed. Good luck, hopefully you’ll do this section uninterrupted this time.
I was wondering if you were going to catch up to Monk. He seems like he’s cool to hike with. Was there a definite end line from the forest fire or was it more gradual? It changes so much out there. I think that’s why I’m so intrigued by this hike. I’ve only hiked in the Appalachian Mountains and it’s all so similar. It is nice to see you in some lush green forest. Travel safe Papa Bear keep well.
Monk was off a week in Portland visiting some friends then we decided to finish the trail together. Nice to be hiking with my friend. Some of the burnt areas have a clear line others kind of weave in/out where the trail is at. The Shelley Fire burn area seemed to mainly hit the ridge and down into the chutes.
Thank you for the update on your journey!
I enjoy the scenery & background music.
Thank you!
You and Monk are crushing it!! Thx so much for sharing it all with us. Hike on!☮️
Thank you 🙏 Trying to plan ahead on next steps but so hard not knowing what will be open when we finish this section.
That's so good you can finish Cali. Good to see Monk with ya again! 😁💜✌️🏞🥾
Fingers crossed no fires start up next 160 miles 🤞
You r so close that’s so awesome ‼️
Way to go!! Found ya by accident and now I can’t wait to see your adventures.. wishing you the best .. keep on trucking!
Thank you 🙏 Thanks for checking it out.

That would be a good video! First I need to finish every mile of this trail 😁
The shuffling continues - glad you reunited with Monk at least. It's a year of patchwork thru-hiking.

I’d agree and even the PCTA told us a traditional theu hike is very unlikely to happen anymore. Sad so many burn zones on the PCT.
Impressive work around. Wish I couldve helped you out in Ashland. But you’re already gone.
Thank you appreciate it 🙏. We were in and out pretty quick. The Scottish Inn was a nice hiker friendly place.

Good to see Monk again.
It’s been great to hike together again.
Way to connect those dots! Hopefully the Knife Edge w/b open 🤞
Thank you 🙏 Still undermined if I’ll be able to get into Goat Rocks for the knifes edge.
Whoa, that itinerary is making my head spin lol. Great to see you hiking with Monk again. Try not to beat up those Olympus shoes this time 😂
" that itinerary is making my head spin"
👍That's exactly what I was thinking David, I just didn't know how to say it 😂😅..

Sorry tried to explain it the best I could 🤣. So many fires so confusing trying to get around them.
Nice to see you and Monk were riding in style 😂. Looks like yall doing a good job figuring it all out.
Carry on buddy and safe travels...
😂 Driving that little car was quite different than driving my truck! Trying to finish all we can this year.

Thank you Glen 🙏. It’s nice to be hiking with Monk again. We are 1/2 way through the section so hopefully no more fires pop up 🤞
