Congratulations on a tremendous achievement! Just stumbled across your channel and really enjoyed watching this journey. It takes a strong support system at home to achieve these goals.

My sister and i are hiking this in pieces this summer. We are starting at the northern terminus. We will only have 4 days to hike. We plan 10 mile days. But the one section is 16 miles between tent sights. What is that hike like climbing wise? Tough? What is the hike like up to that point? Tough/easy climb wise keeping in mind we are weekend backpackers, 50 years old. Healthy, active, but slow 😊. I looked at the elevation on far out, but i dont quite understand elevation maps yet. So i wondered how hard the climbing was in the 1st 40 miles.

Hi Michael. After somewhat of a holiday delay in watching more of the videos from this hike, I've started at this one and will go forward. Reason: I've hiked the AT from Springer to Caledonia State Park (in many section hikes over many years). Another reason is I plan to return to that location and hike at least to Boiling Springs. My goal now is to at least get to the mid-point of the trail, and geat a picture of that older sign. Your videos will give me an idea of what I have to look forward to. More importantly, as a 72-year old father/grandfather, I very much understand your feelings on the past loss and relationship with his parents. I've found that as I aged, I sometimes had a "church parent" that filled that relationship need. Then, as I got into my "senior years", I've been blessed to be that for others - a huge blessing. So, I empathized and sympathized with your discussion and emotions as you shared that story. While I started with this series to see what the Pinhoti looked like in Alabama, and the AT looked like from the state park forward, I've also enjoyed your kind nature and narration. Look forward to going with you to the end, thank you for this fine series. God Bless to you and your family!

Hi Bear. I started originally started watching this series to see what the Pinhoti looks like. But, because of your kind and informative narration, and your showing us what the trail looks like, I plan to watch on through to Baxter. I've hikedthe AT ito Caledonia State Park in southern PA, right near the midpoint. Once I hike to the midpoint (as it is in 2025), I'm calling it quits with respect to new trail going north. I might go to Boiling Springs and day hike the part through the Cumberland valley. I lived in Cumming, GA for 22 years and did regular day hikes in the north GA mountains on the AT, BMT, and Bartram Trail. In this video, it was good to see some familiar scenes on the BMT. I've been hiking since 1972 and regularly since 1990. I'm now 71, retired, and living in south Mississippi. Hoping to do the Pinhoti in Alabama and Quachita in Arkansas, Lord being my helper. (Sorry for all the background detail.) But, I'm also looking forward to "walking" with you all the way to Baxter. 🙂 God Bless to you and your wife.
