That sounds right. Someone being super jealous, controlling, and wanting you to only be attracted to them is all rooted in low self-esteem and personal insecurity. That same low self-esteem makes them desperate to receive validation from others, whether it's you wanting to date them or a stranger at the bar wanting them to sit on their lap.
It's good you broke up with them. It sounds like she needed to work on her relationship with herself before she could have a healthy relationship with someone else.

Not to mention, acting insecure is the easiest way to scare off high-quality people who would have never cheated on you. No one wants to feel like they're being interrogated or doubted when they never considered cheating. They'll grow tired of needing to baby you and your constant insecurities and eventually leave you for someone who's more secure and less exhausting.
