- So today i tried to fix the almighty click which i have been getting for months, i initially thought it was my driveshaft.. then i realised the spring could possibly be loose... thats when it turned bad.
Yes i snapped my suspension strut by overtighening it with a breaker bar; what an absolute D***HEAD.
lesson learnt.
Luckily; one of the megane lads had a spare strut lying around and i could go and grab it off him, otherwise i would have been in a bad bad place.

Installing it was of course, a pain.
But shes all back on the road now, although she has developed ANOTHER noise which i will have to have a look at tomorow.

Hmm wonder why the suspension bolt snapped?? Maybe because you were TIGHTENING it rather than loosening! Why were you taking that bolt off anyway?? That's the spring tension bolt

isnt it weird how the meganes front jacking points always make the back of the car come off the ground and float when both sides are jacked

Unlucky bro but good to see you have people willing to help also loved the fact you mentioned Chris fix he’s spot on mate lastly have you checked the inner tie rod for the clicking as I’m having a similar issue , changed my track rod ends and drop links and I’m still hearing the noise so going to try inner tie rods

I replaced the shock on my 225 CUP, Used Spring Compressors to shorten the shock and allow me to slip it in the hub without removing everything :)
had the same on my 225 it's the swivel hubs . They have bearings that get corroded
Did one on a renault Senic a while back so stands a chance it could have that Spring too on your Megane maybe.

you need a 3/8ths ratchet and socket set for engine work and jobs like yours around 13mm, 1/2 inch for wheel nuts and lower suspension parts and wish bones and hub nuts etc... 17mm, 19mm upwards and 1/4 inch for the smaller stuff 10mm downwards

I had the exact problem on a 20 year old micra I had for my first car I hit a pothole and the strut snapped, jacked it up and you could literally wobble the wheel as if it wasn't even attached 😂

If that clicking sound is still there pull that driveshaft out take the inner cv boot off pull the shaft apart carefully as there's 3 needle rollers behind that is a spring they sometimes break causing a clicking sound. And get a bottom ball joint on it, yours don't look to healthy lol. 👍🏻

What the fuck was you doing tightening the top mount but with a breaker bar that big? And have you changed your bearing? Could that be clicking sound since when you tightened your hub nut up it stopped the sound?

itsLeeLockwood u normally can tell when a cv joint is bad it will click on full lock r u sure all ur ball joints drop links etc are tight is there any play in the wheel?
When u changed your track rod end u cable tied the abs wire is it hitting anything

Was going to ask you, the noise you were experiencing, was it when your going over speed-humps and when your turning the steering wheel left or right while on standby or moving, it does a cling noise ?

Also always Remember that all Suspension parts have chocolate threads ie Cross threading , thread damage, decapitation .
And also never tighten up suspension bolts with a breaker bar just loosen them with the breaker bar . 😉👍
