Although our Botswana camping safari isn't off to the best start (see episode one of the BBB adventure), we do have a great stay at Elephant Sands Lodge, at their unfenced, semi off-grid campsites. The watering hole is a great place to watch the ellies while enjoying a cold drink from the bar, or even a bite to eat from their restaurant, if you're so inclined.
But you don't even need to go to the watering hole to see the elephants, as they casually stroll and eat their way through the campsite at any given time. Be sure you give them their space, though, as they may feel the need to show you your place!
Elephant Sands makes for an excellent stop-over location when travelling across the border from South Africa on the way to Chobe National Park or even via Kasane to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

Great video, thank you. We wanted to stay their (camping) with our kids at the end of the month but after watching your video, we will rather go when they are a bit older.
As we will not be resting, we will be running after them to keep the elephant safe. 😂

Great review guys! 👍First ES video I 👀that goes beyond the tented camps, watering hole and mention of a resturant!🙄 Thanks for actually doing a walk-though and showing us the whole place👌Just the panning at the end made me a bit 🤢although very informative overall 👊PS; your use of emoji's😅

Thanks. Apologies for the unstready panning, still trying to figure how to do that one without a drone.

Very informative video. Must be nice to be up close to the elephants, but it’s a bit to close for my comfort. Likes the walk though, make it part of the main video. Gr8 80’s arcade style emojis & sounds 😂.
Slow down on the panning though 😉

Thanks, glad the review was informative. Some of the close encounters were a little unsettling 😁
Apologies for the unsteady panning. Still trying to figure that out without using a drone.

@@TravelGigolo maybe a gimble should be a new purchase 🤣 well I am assuming a Gimble solves that (I have no experience) 🤣

The gimbal works well for most things, but walking and panning at the same time is unfortunately not one of them 😁.

Thanks for your informative review. That is exactly what we are after. We also want to explore a bit. But, want to tow the caravan. It's not a 4x4 van but a gravel traveler. So your reviews is important to us, as we will be able to make an informative decision. Thanks for all your superb videos.

Ellies always beware and make sure you have space to reverse for a quick getaway!😁

In this case the getaway would have had to have been on foot 😄 I got behind the car very quickly!

Thanks boet, looks fabulous but I’m very suspicious of elephant behaviour. I’ve driven down the Kasane road and have been charged a few times so I’m not sure I want elephants in and out of my camp all the time…
I love the creatures from a distance because when they get upset there’s no defence against them. Is there a ranger on-site monitoring them ? Otherwise jury still out for me and in the past my rest stop is Nata lodge instead ! 🫣

    • @TravelGigolo
      @TravelGigolo  Год назад +1

I'm not aware that there is a ranger on site. The elephants occasionally walk into people's camps, so that's a bit worrying if there is food around. I do think they have become habituated, but they're still wild animals though and not to be trifled with.
