Dave just reached back out and has a 10% off coupon code if you want to pick up anything from the Dyer's Guild! ⬇

You can use soap and water to wash the top so it takes the dye rather than alcohol if you're concerned about it taking some of the stamp off.

Really great job on the video, and on the dyes! This is how it starts. Then, next thing you know, you have a big front load food dehydrator (not an air fryer or oven!), a direct drive record player, gallons of clear glue waiting for use (and reuse), a corner full of jugs of chemicals, and racks of little glass dropper jars (way easier to control than pipettes, in my opinion) filled with a rainbow of colors ready to go. The toothpick works fine for getting rid of bubbles if you don't have a torch, like you were trying to do, but instead of popping them by stabbing them drag them to the edge of the pan and they will either pop easier there or at least be out of the way. The only thing I feel safe using to clean discs is and not ruin stamps is the Magic Eraser or just some Dawn dish soap and water, I have definitely had alcohol strip a stamp off off like that before, and acetone does it instantly. Even the magic eraser can take off a stamp it if you scrub too hard. I hope to see you continue with dyeing and making videos of your results!

You can use a food torch to pop the bubbles, especially after you’ve put your dye in the glue. The torch will pop the big surface bubbles so that your disc doesn’t have colorless spots in the final dye.

You will get less dye clumps on the bottom of the bottle if you add dye to hot water. I know adding water to dye sounds the same but it is not. Put the hot water in first and then the dye. Mix and then add in the acetone.

Dunno if I missed it but when you were asking about ovens, the thing everyone uses who does it on the regular is a dehydrator. The right size for disc trays, most have multiple shelves so more than one at a time and they have timers. 120 for 45-90 minutes is what I see a lot do it for and they seem to get awesome results.

You can just add more dye (glue too) onto a bed after pullingna disc from it, add swirls and put another disc in. And repeat. And repeat. And repeat. It cuts down the cost even more and you can make "sets" of discs like this 😎

I started with lotion dyes, which was cool because the discs smell like coco butter. Also did shaving cream and dry powder dye, which creates a burst effect. I've found, for more detail, less moving it around with the toothpick is better. That target grid in the bottom of the pan is an amazing tip.

a tip, if you want only a one color rim for example on an DD, take a sponge, dip it in the color you want, for example blue, then whipe it on the rim, you can do it 2 or 3 times, to get it darker more intence, but it works! I did the same, pushed the disc down in the gluebed and the color is great, pattern, but the glue dryes and it is a little bit of work to skrub it off afterwards, but its okey, looks cool with dyed rim :) i have also dyed again discs, that im not satisfyed with, a second time, the colors became then mor intence and it worked great, alwasy wait 48hours, let the bed sit, maby it isn´t neccesary amount of time, but thats what i do :)

You could look into getting a food dehydrator to use for heating your bed. They are usually large enough, but finding one that doesn't have a center channel might be a bit tricky. They have a timer and don't get hot enough to melt your disc.
I just had a look and the one from "Elite Gourmet" for 40$ might be a good fit, you might have to use a tin that is a little flatter though.

    • @dyersguild

i've never dyed before. I have a stack of discs prime for dying, but always worried about messing it up. It definitely looks like less is more when it comes to manipulating the dye. the more you run the toothpick through it, the more it wants to blend instead of show the pattern. Could probably be utilized to force blending into the pattern. I might have to pick up one of these kits

@@BodanzaDiscGolf Sweet :P Disc dyeing is quite fun. Makes someone, like me, who as basically just above no artistic talent, feel like even I can do something thats actually quite beautiful.
And, another plus with floetrol instead of glue is that you can use it on like a canvas as well. So, you could do it with your wife/kid as well, and hang the result on the wall somewhere. Might have to wait a bit for the kid, but whatever :P
There is a lot of tutorials or just "this is what I did, and this is the result"-sort of videos out there.
