My mom used to put a bath towel tucked under the pillow and draped over the edge of the bed so no sick would go on the side. Also she would put about an inch of warm water with bubble bath in the bowl So it wouldn't smell of sick as your being sick! Also makes for easier cleaning too!! I still do that to this day xx
I am a health professional and might I say that I disagree with not giving baby a bath for a fever. You can bathe the baby but have the warm luke warm. A lot of people think that the water should be cold. That is wrong is will give baby the chills. A luke warm bath can be calming and healing for a baby with a fever. Another hint that I have is if your child comes home from daycare or school with cold symptoms such as a runny nose, take off their clothes, wash the clothes and bathe the child, and put new clothes on the child. The virus sticks to the clothes so it can prevent the virus from continuing to infect the child. Great video as always, Emily!
Maybe everyone knows this one but just to piggy back off the washing of the clothes is to also wash towels and blankets that are shared by the family. Again, the virus sticks to them. This has really helped us to prevent spreading cold to one another in our family. I'm glad I could be helpful!
I’m 23 I’m not married... yet and I don’t have kids but I love your videos. I appreciate your family life and how you raise your children and what type of home they get to grow up in despite what you grew up in. It really makes me so happy and your sunshine personality just really makes my day.
I'm literally sick right now and I was thinking how there's no-one who could make me feel better..... and then you uploaded your video. Thank you for putting a smile on my face every time I watch your video 💗
Hi Emily Your such a inspiration to me I have been suffering with anxiety for a while And When I watch you My stress goes It makes me feel so relaxed Thank you so much You have made my Life so much easier now my anxiety is barely even there Love you X
Just to say sometimes it's really important to wake your child up and assess them through the night... a high temperature is only a symptom of an illness... very sick children can sleep through and be alot worse upon weakening. From experience checking a temperature in the traditional way can be important to assess whether a child is improving or has deteriorated... a mum will pick up subtle ques. Great tool though if used correctly.
The puppy pads hack is my favourite! I'm definitely going to use them the next time my son is sick! He doesn't always make it to the bathroom in time and I'm often left cleaning up his bedroom floor in the middle of the night 🤮
The timing of this video couldn't be more perfect. My 6-month-old son is getting over a stomach virus. Right before that he caught a cold. This was the first time he has been sick in his life and it was so exhausting. I think he thought he wasn't going to make it. There were some nights where he couldn't sleep without being held. Getting his sleep schedule back in order has also been a major ordeal. On a side note, some days my son and I watch your videos (particularly your update videos) just to take a breather. He is just fascinated by you and I think he thinks you are talking to him since we skype with his grandmother frequently. He giggles and smiles every time you do a shot of you talking into the camera.
Saw this notification pop up and it couldn’t be more on point for me right now. It’s 4am here and I’ve been up all night with my 10month old. Will watch this tomorrow, right now I’m going to see how much 😴 I can grab before he wakes again!
Great tips Emily! We've just started daycare (Australia) with our 1 yr old and the poor thing has been sick on and off for months. I especially like the thermometer. I know it's a paid ad but it seems really amazing! Thanks :D
The bedding one is genius! I use two syringes when giving medicine just so I'm not " double dipping" and contaminating a whole bottle of medicine with germs.x
I love the laundry basket idea for sick toddlers. Makes so much sense and now I know what to do when I'm scrambling in the middle of the night (like last night) to find something for them to use.
My one year old is just recovering from gastroenteritis. She would only breastfeed whilst she was ill. Refused diorolyte. We were worried about dehydration. GP advised us to give her coconut water as full of electrolytes. She loved it! Thank god. Good to know 👍
Love the double up idea, definitely going to give that a go instead of late night changes. My 8 month baby hates getting Nurofen and Calpol so need to try that soother too. Thanks for the tips Emily xxxx
After my baby had a febrile convulsion I googled for something just like this but everything was so expensive! Bought this using your code straight away! Thanks for a great video Emily :)
Leanna is right, we were advised by an a and e doctor to give paracetamol and ibuprofen together to keep our babys temperature down when he had a virus. They work differently and so no way of overdosing as long as you follow dosage instructions. Also you can alternate the two so give paracetamol then 4hrs later give ibuprofen then 4hrs later give paracetamol and so on. Takes awsy risk of giving too much of either drug in 24hrs by doing this.
Katie Dunne I think they advise to give separate as then you get longer pain relief, rather than them both wearing off after a few hours, I usually give one then 2 hours later if needed give the other (and so on) xx
Such a super helpful video! Thanks Emily 😍😍 I have 3 children aged 8/2 and I found I learnt a lot of great tips I'd never heard of! The tissue box bin... genius! The temperature thingy is great! My daughter had febrile seizures when younger and this would have been brilliant. I'd use it for my youngest. The splinter tip is also genius... I can't believe I didn't know about it! Thanks again and keep up the good work xxxx
Oh i remember when my baby was sick for the first time i literally was screaming in tears i had no idea what to do but at least I'm not alone. If i had that temperature checker i think it would be permanently on my little girl for piece of mind every second lol xxx love your videos Emily keep it up and all your hard work
I wish i had watched this back in Sep 18 to get the discount on smart thermometer it sounds amazing i will definitely get ir considering i am always worried about little one. Amazing tips thanks Emily xxx
My son recently went through a week of extremely high temperatures, up to 105F. The doctors said the only thermometer they trusted was rectal. Skip the fancy, expensive ones and go for the cheap but very accurate method. It really sucks when you have to wake your baby up and then take their rectal temp, but when it really matters, you do what's necessary
Hi Emily! Can you make a video, about what you do when YOU are sick? Maybe 'hacks to sick mummys'? 😊👏 I feel that as a mum, I do not know how to stay positive when I am sick..
This was fantastic, thank you! My little boy unfortunately has a bit of a tummy bug at the moment and I am definitely using that washing basket idea- genius! Xx
Hey there! Loved the laundry basket idea. Also, with everyone’s advice on here, I would still stick to what the professionals told you about bathing and medicine. I’d ask my pediatrician about those things to confirm, but there is so much misinformation on the internet that sticking to what the real experts and your mommy instincts say is best.
Wow amazing tips! My baby has only been sick once so far and had a fever once from immunizations and oh my lord it was the scariest night of my life I didn’t get any sleep because I was checking her temp every half hour. That temp detector would have been a life saver.
Nice tips Emily! Thanks. One should never give ibrufen without doctor's prescription or during a stomach bug. My 1.5 year old had recently a terrible allergic reaction to ibrufen which was quite terrifying 😔
In my country doctors don't give prescriptions for ibuprofen you just buy it at the pharmacy when you need it. We have it for infants, kids or adults. You take it as needed. And even if your doctor had prescribed it to you your little one still would have gotten an allergic reaction...
LOVE the feversmart 😍 Here in Denmark you have a fever when you are over 37,5 degrees - then you are sick and not allowed in daycare 😊 My baby boy is sick right now but he is getting through it with no fuzz ❤️
All great tips, use many myself for my kids. Just another tip/mention the BRAT food will also make your kids constipated, so if they have diarrhea it would be great.
I loved watching your video. I have a five year old son who is sick now so this video could not have come at a better time. keep the great videos coming.
Great video! Thanks Emily! Am so tempted to get the FeverSmart product now, would have been so handy when my toddler recently had a nasty virus! Would love a follow on video on hacks or tips to survive a few ‘home’ days with a sick baby/child...ways to entertain them etc...sometimes it’s hard passing all that time! X
My favorite was the little tiny syringe used for doing “ medicine challenges” How clever!! My youngest will definitely go for this!! I also love the fever sticker!!😍 Thanks for sharing your tricks!!
Oh wow the fever smart has to be the best thing I’ve seen invented 😀 what a clever device! Ah the pain of mothers when checking for fever espesh in the night. I will defo be buying one of these this winter! As a mum of 3 also, it will make my life so much easier 😀 Brilliant video Emily xx
Loved this, all great hacks, my favourite 3 are the fever smart, tissue boxes and the puppy pads, my children are age 10, 15 and 20, wish I had known these hacks when they were younger x
Emily !! I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are. I have been watching your videos even before having a baby :) Thank you for what you are doing ! ! You are helping a lot the unexperienced ones :D
Oh my gosh these are brilliant! I loved the laundry basket lined with a plastic bin bag idea as well as the covering their bed with several bed linings. Thank you!
Love the sickness hack using the training pads, my son is 11 months and recently had a sickness bug and we had to throw out the rug from his room ! This would have saved us x
I wish the feversmart was available here! My eldest has febrile seizures (or at least had them once...), and she will only outgrow it in a few years, so I am always worried when her temperature is even a little bit higher. It would be so good to be able to monitor her!
Love these Em! Jenson has like 5 splinters on the soles of his feet that I can’t get out, they’re not bothering him but I want to get them out incase they get infected so I’ll definitely try this in the morning!
Great video!! What a great idea for the fever smart, my little one hates the in ear thermometer. Thanks for the discount code - ordered it straight away!! Xx

Great tips!!
So simple but brilliant. Thank you. X

Great tip! Thanks!
You should do a tip video for when us moms are sick. We all know how crazy it can be with kids and feeling like death lol love your videos!
amanda agnew you copied my idea which I put an hour before you
Ha ha love that - i did think about making a funny one about coping with a hangover as a mum - but thought peopel would think that's bad xx

omg yesssssssss
amanda agnew yes please I’m sick at the moment 😕

I’m 23 I’m not married... yet and I don’t have kids but I love your videos. I appreciate your family life and how you raise your children and what type of home they get to grow up in despite what you grew up in.

Aisling Cronin agreed! It’s nice to have a gadget like that, but a parent’s assessment beats that every time!
The puppy pads hack is my favourite! I'm definitely going to use them the next time my son is sick! He doesn't always make it to the bathroom in time and I'm often left cleaning up his bedroom floor in the middle of the night 🤮
Why do I watch these videos, I’m 11

As a Mum of a 4yo and a 8mo I found this video really informative.
OMG that fever product is amazing - such peace of mind x
Saw this notification pop up and it couldn’t be more on point for me right now. It’s 4am here and I’ve been up all night with my 10month old. Will watch this tomorrow, right now I’m going to see how much 😴 I can grab before he wakes again!

I think you should redo this video again for people this summer 💕
Great tips Emily! We've just started daycare (Australia) with our 1 yr old and the poor thing has been sick on and off for months. I especially like the thermometer. I know it's a paid ad but it seems really amazing! Thanks :D

That fever monitor is amazing! I wish that was around when I had my son
The puppy pad hack is very smart. I had to get our carpets and couch professionally cleaned after a recent sickness bug that lasted over a week!
Love the double up idea, definitely going to give that a go instead of late night changes. My 8 month baby hates getting Nurofen and Calpol so need to try that soother too. Thanks for the tips Emily xxxx
So glad you liked them! Thanks so much for watching Rebekah xx
After my baby had a febrile convulsion I googled for something just like this but everything was so expensive! Bought this using your code straight away! Thanks for a great video Emily :)
OMG that sounds terrifying! Aw that's good - a little tip is to set it up as soon as you get it so if you need it will be ready to go xx
U can give paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time! They are different drugs. As long as u dont exceed the recommended daily amount
I think everyone should do their own research - but I believe it is not recommended. Thanks so much for watching xx
I was always told you shouldn't unnecessarily switch bewteen different medicines if one works perfectly fine.

You definitely can give them together..... I’m a nurse in the NHS :-) x
I tested the fever monitor for market research it's great x
It's so great especially for little ones xx
