You guys need to remember that Kelly really did not have a choice as to what kind of music she could make. She has said as much in many an interview. She was in a contract with American Idol for 15 years! Only as she became more popular did she have more of a say in the type of music she could make. She was at constant odds with her record label and producers. She wrote I don't think about you about how she felt during that time you should listen to it. That is why she was so excited about her newest album. It was the kind of album she wanted to make from the beginning. Jasmine Cornish no she didnt write i dont think about you. No mam. Vocally shes the greatest, but she has no chop for song writing, her melody is lacking. My December is a monotone mess. Still shes the best pop vocalist out now.
@@fuckurbody please do your research! She is a definite songwriter, but her former record label didn't approve of it. She completely wrote "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "Because Of You", "Piece by Piece", etc by herself based on her personal life experiences. Also, the record industry is tough because most record label executives control the artist's musical desires, believe it or not. You have to have famous and successful music producers, such as Max Martin, for a record label to approve your music. Not all record labels do this, but most do.

Jay Velasco her label was right. Her writing isnt all that, especially when it comes to melody & hook. Thats something that cant be thought. Either they have it or not. Say what u want about Taylor swift, but that girl knows how to write a hook. Kelly just doesnt have it & thats ok. She’s a vocalist. The great whitney houston didnt write her material either and that’s completely fine.

I believe since she had a contract with American Idol´s producers, Clive I think its the guy, they wanted to control her music , she had to fight really hard to put out her album "my december" because they didnt want her to go that way but she always said that she loves "MUSIC" and she didnt want to be put in a box or stuff, she want to try different things.
M-Angel, you really should check out her Meaning of Life album. It's very bluesy and motown. Kinda like her first album but more soulful.
STAHP!!! This is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs by her! It was on the "Love Actually " soundtrack and her album. I think it's HIGHLY underrated! Her voice is everything on this song! Soul for days!

She was literally forced by her record label and the 15 year Idol contract to make those albums which gave us some great anthems but as you correctly say, could’ve been a more soul career. RCA Records forced her into the pop/rock lane. She has said this was one of her favorite songs from early in her career because she could showcase some soulful vocals. Definitely need to react to the Nashville Session live version of the title track to her latest album, Meaning of Life. This was the song she built her album around because she loved how soulful it was! 😊

I like Kelly Clarkson when she first who won American Idol but after seeing that AOL sessions video cemented me into being her biggest fan.

not really her choice. it was her record company, mainly Clive Davis. she has said that on her label, they already has someone as the R&B/Pop artist, which I believe was Christina Aguilera, so they pushed for the Pop/Rock. It wasn't until she got out of the contract and signed with Artista last year and released Meaning of Life album, which is fucking fantastic, did she feel like she had complete control of her music.

actually it was Kelly Clarkson who decided to be in pop rock. RCA wants her to be the ballad type of girl. She is the main reason she had MISS INDEPENDENT and SINCE U BEEN GONE. both songs refused by CLIVE DAVIS her LABEL CEO to be released and she had to cry in front of him to release those songs.
