That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm sure that some of that equipment is ordered from the manufacturer with the intent of salt production. So, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the equipment had a special clear coat or something. They may even spray down the equipment with a solution weekly at the facility.
Ryan, I just completed 2 months of a Salt harvest here in Australia, yes it dose rust if it is not looked after but if it is washed down properly the equipment will last forever.
excellent video again, i like the bamboo shoots, they taste good, keep up the excellent videos and get your farm the way you like it🥰❤ ! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
the amount of radioactive water released into the pacific in this event is like dropping a drop of food coloring in gulf of mexico, likely less. there's more radioactive run off from regular shore erosion than what happened here. it's devastating for the local area and japan, but the farther away you get from it, the less significant it becomes, eventually becoming insignificant compared to natural erosion.
Cargill singlehandedly lowering the salinity of the ocean by 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001^-10%
One of the heaviest industrialized ocean bays in the world, with attendant pollution runoff that finds its way into the dehydrated salt and hence into the human food chain. yum, yum.
What causes most metal to rust out isn't the salt itself, it's the abrasion from the salt getting thrown at the metal. The same happens to areas with fine gravel roads and sand used in place of salt. Part of the reason why sawdust and woodchips are becoming more common. Cheaper to produce and is a lot softer than gravel, sand, and salt.
Would think machines stay no more than two seasons, then sold on. Even if washed all the time the salt will stay for ever and do its work during the next ownership, probably Africa or something.
not very bright are they, they could separate the water from the salt in 6-12 months by doing this in alaska as the water will freeze into ice and the saltier layer will still be at the bottom. i'd go into further detail but i'm not being paid to give away basic technique that would reduce their costs by 30,000%
Do you have any idea how modern farms work? LOL.. all food is harvested threw large equipment, which is greasy and dirty... ( epic im replying to a 6 year old comment ) lol
They use fresh water to wash it. If they used salt water to do so your right it would revert back to brine. Salt takes longer to dissolve in fresh water and the washing is quick so there really isn't any lose (except the very fine power).
The same follows tee with most rock salt. Most rock salt is what's called "solar salt" meaning it's usually salt water based also. They flood huge pools and using the sun over time the water evaporites just like the video shows. As I said above sea salt takes longer to desolve in fresh water.
it won't, the pacific ocean is too large to make a effect, again, it's like putting a drop of food coloring in the gulf of mexico and trying to find it, you don't realize how large the pacific ocean is and that it goes through a lot worse than this radioactive spill. do you have a degree on marine sciences? marine biology? wait, you can't, otherwise you would know how ridiculous your claims are.
That would sure be a lot of jobs but no although I'll bet they do have to replace equipment regularly but then what would you expect they have to do what they have to do
With the Pacific Ocean becoming the dumping grounds for all the radiation running out of the power plant at Fukushima Japan is this salt monitored for radiation? I don't think that I would use it.
how is being logical about this ignoring it? you're going from concerned about radioactive pollution to complaining that no one cares about the disaster.....I think you need to get your priorities straight.....
I'm glad they wash the bird poop off the salt before I sprinkle it on my french fries. 🍟😊
No u eat it
Sorry to inform you but they had to make cuts to the budget and guess what? yep. No more washing off bird poop
I’d like to know the average lifespan of equipment used here
not long
I imagine a power washer is widely used appliance at that farm. Even then not long.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm sure that some of that equipment is ordered from the manufacturer with the intent of salt production. So, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the equipment had a special clear coat or something.

its 48000 hours of use if that helps

amazing ocean water for making natural salt to flavor and preserved foods.
Being a heavy equipment mechanic, I'd hate to work on that macherary.

Why?
@@death_parade rust caused by the salt
When you look at a piece of equipment that looks like it sat at the bottom of a ocean , this is probably where it came from
Christ that equipment must rust
im sure most of it is coated with something to delay the corrosion process
Gordon Liddy paint
Im talking about a secondary rust inhibitor not just paint.
Needs sum WD-40
Ryan, I just completed 2 months of a Salt harvest here in Australia, yes it dose rust if it is not looked after but if it is washed down properly the equipment will last forever.
Salt one mineral we can not live without
Nice video
I saw the same sea salt farming on the way from the Inchon airport to the city of Seoul, South Korea. I use sea salt daily.
excellent video again, i like the bamboo shoots, they taste good, keep up the excellent videos and get your farm the way you like it🥰❤ ! And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
In India this process is done without machines by labourers.
Only one type of bacteria survive this harsh environment , that gives it the pink colour . Wow amazing learnt something today
Now with Cesium 137 from Fukushima.
Nope. Not enough to be detectable. The evacuation because of radiation panic caused more deaths in the general population.
So they have to buy new equipment every week right? Because of corrosion?
Living in America's heartland (Kansas), I hardly consider San Francisco, CA the HEARTLAND.

The solution to pollution is dilution. Except if you are against a desalination plant. People are funny animals.

lol, if paint chips off those machines, itll be eaten hollow within the season.
Did you happen to hear how the salt goes through several wash proscesses? How do you think salt is mined underground? By using equipment, not by hand!
you dont want to open your eyes in that water
Good

@Jason Messersmith Bottom left... it was a rabbit hauling ass. 🐇😁
Isn't that coyote hills and Dumbarton nxt to Newark CA and Palo Alto ca
That equipment must rust out right way!
Awesome but heartbreaking to see does machines working in the salt, to there death's
wow, fascinating...
Does this salt contain iodine and other minerals naturally?
Or, do we have to put by ourselves in processing?
It has iodine naturally but not enough for a humans needed daily allowance.
Its put in separately.
nice and good FUTURE

Won't all that salt destroid those machine harvesting it?
Each piece of equipment has to be replaced every few years because of that all factors into the cost of salt

That’s why they all look so new, they probably buy them, abuse them for 3 ish years and sell them before the rust gets too bad.

Don't eat the yellow salt
Interesting

I never wondered how salt was harvested until now.
I wouldn't use that salt for anything other than melting snow.
and this salt is mainly used for ice melt
No. In the video they said it’s mainly used for food products. Canning and food processing especially

Does it seem odd seeing the greasy heavy equipment bull dozers and graders rolling through the salt that much of goes to food?
Dantastic it gets clean

Rust rust everywhere
REALLY???? Here near the "Salt City" we have slat mines, like coal mines. No it is not Utah, guess again.
I remember a lake in Louisiana getting sucked into a salt mine cuz of a bad drill bore 🤣
How is it possible to "wash" salt? Why doesn't it revert to brine?
They use fresh water to wash it. If they used salt water to do so your right it would revert back to brine. Salt takes longer to dissolve in fresh water and the washing is quick so there really isn't any lose (except the very fine power).
I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

+Mikey8567 sea water would less likely turn salt back to brine during washing due to the saturation point of the saltwater.

I went to Cargill's salt farm on the island of Bonaire, and I believe they used salt water for washing there.

How do you think your corn/wheat/any other crop is any different? Shits not harvested by hand buddy.
I hear that sea salt has a large amount of plastic from the ocean
