  • So I just finished all 10 episodes of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury on Netflix, and now I need to talk about it. Idk if this is a video essay, or what, but I talk about my feelings on the end of the Power Rangers.
This is my channel where I review Tokusatsu, including Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Power Rangers.

Much like how the Mighty Morphin team never actually destroyed Zedd, the Cosmic Fury team didn't either, which I actually find cool to see Power Ranger villains who either get redeemed or at the very least don't get destroyed.

Dude I understand what you're saying but hopefully with how successful and good this season was we'll get more specials with the same tone that will continue the franchise in some way. I've had this show since I was 4 and now I'm a grown man with kids that is feeling some way about the main continuity ending.

Even if I am a fan of tokusatsu other than Power Rangers, yeah I am totally scared, angry, happy, hopeful, etc. for the Power Rangers franchise. Without Power Rangers I would not be able to become a major tokusatsu fan like many other people. And it is just very sad to think Power Rangers is just in hiatus just because it has a frustrating tendency to be restricted from its full potential for so long.
This might be the way Ultraman fans could've felt when Ultraman Mebius ended, peak series show that ends off the franchise on a high note. It must be VERY FRUSTRATING to be in that position as a fan.
But it's also frustrating thinking about Power Rangers to me because I do not trust Power Rangers with people who do not see what the franchise could be from its greatest to its full potential realized.
I can only hope, demand, BEG for Power Rangers to still keep the heart of the franchise for people who loved it while introducing its way of storytelling and visuals to a new audience.

As an adult(40)-who-likes-nerdy-kids-shows I get the feeling. Eventhough objectively you know that series end and that them ending doesn't mean anything really goes away, its still a weird moment in fandom when you've seen that final new entry in the thing you like. Don't fear the reboot thing though. Many other great franchises worked on a system of continued reboots instead of decades long continuities (transformers, turtles, ...) and did just fine.
And as for the identity crisis bit, well, there is no reason why you can't still be the guy that likes power rangers. There is no reason that the morals you say you got from the show need to go away. There is no reason for you to lose something of yourself just because the show ends.
There is so much left to talk about in what already exists and lord knows we need every toku content creator in this little niche. I hope you keep it up, your videos have for the most part been unique and entertaining.

Your point about reboots is incredibly valid. I love stuff like turtles and spider man. It's just never happened with PR before so it's scary. I understand how you feel, Christian. Some of my personality and beliefs connects back to the franchise since childhood too. So to see it end is a bitter sweet feeling. Cosmic Fury did a good job wrapping up the main continuity. And despite how much of a joke some seasons have been, it’s still really heart numbing. Fortunately we can always look back on some seasons on RUclips or Blu-ray. Even though it won’t be the same, at least we can still hold on to our memories. Also, You’re not weak for admitting how much Power Rangers means to you. Everyone has something valuable they hold on to and they would feel the same way you did if that was ever taken away from them. Just know that you’re not alone. If nobody else, I got you man.

Dude, Christian I totally get it. I've been a Power Rangers fan since before I could read. I'm almost 20 years old now and I still prop the show up to people who talk down on it. I totally, 100% understand. I love lots of things but not the way I love Power Rangers. But for a long time I watched the franchise from the outside because I couldn't stand to see it be mistreated anymore. But when Once and Always and Cosmic Fury were announced I decided to come back to see this show I love through its final moments. But I think something the show and life have taught me is that hope for the future doesn't die out. Even though this reboot will more than likely not be the show we've all been watching since we were 6, we ultimately don't know. So we should have hope that this reboot will be good. And if it's not then we'll wait until something good comes. Because franchises like this don't just die. They just go away for little while. I hope that you find peace in whatever you're feeling, I loved the video and the channel!

When my little bro died I was five years old and at his funeral I left behind my red and green ranger action figures so that he would have something to play with in heaven. I said all that to say when JDF passed away my entire reality shifted in a major way. Even now his death has impacted me more than I ever thought it would. Long story short I fucking feel where you are coming from. It's actually crazy to imagine a silly AF children's show could ever mean so much to soooo many people WORLD WIDE.

PR is special and it can't be replaced, but let suggest that you watch Kamen Rider Kuuga's first 13 episodes, if you like it keep going. This isn't a suggestion for a new show, but rather see what you can learn from Kuuga about growing up, about being brave when faced with not danger but the sorrow of others. It's a very mature show made for kids and adults alike, maybe it might help you reconcile with what you feel you are loosing

Currently rewatching Zeo and I'll watch each season until I get to Cosmic Fury again ❤ One thing I disagree is with Zayto being demoted, I personally didn't see it that way. I think He got an Upgrade if anything, New cool suit, Color(Subjective) and Magic plus now a Morphin Master...Amilea just change color (She always felt second in command with Ollie. I think the reason people felt like that was the fact that he didn't get a lot of screen time, bit it was only 10 episodes and I think they did pretty good all things considered ❤

I know that this is extremely late, but I just want to say that I relate to you a lot as a woman who liked Power Rangers ever since I was little, because of all these badass women. In High School, I was bullied heavily for being Chinese, and it got worse when they found out that I still watch shows that originally are marketed towards children. Now that I am 29, when I think about it, some of the seasons I personally wouldn't allow small children to watch. RPM for example is not made for small kids by any means. The story is way too dark. When I first watched this show, I was 14, so I was old enough to understand and digest the story without having nightmares. King-Ohger is the same. Really good and dark story, but not something I would allow small children to watch. Even if you are an adult, you still can love Power Rangers or Super Sentai. Some seasons are definitely not kid shows.

There's things here I don't feel qualified to comment on, because I'm not a licensed therapist. 😉
    But for PR specifically:
Hi there! I've been a Power Rangers fan since the original airing of Day of the Dumpster. I've been here for this entire ride, for every single season, except for Samurai because I just couldn't (I wasn't a fan of Shinkenger, speaking of losing street cred 😂so a Google Translate version of it wasn't going to make any difference). There's seasons I love, there's seasons I don't like, and then there's seasons like Operation Overdrive or Ninja Steel where I stare at the screen right after the finale after forcing myself to eat the whole plate, and go "...yeah, I never should have done that." They're all part of the family, though.
Yet I keep coming back. As much as I adore tokusatsu in all its forms, PR speaks to me in ways Super Sentai can't. Is it the added Western flavor that creates a cultural blend that compels me? Comfort food writing tropes I don't get from anime? A higher chance of seeing people who look like me being able to put on the suit? Maybe. I try (and usually fail) not to think about it too hard. Sometimes I take breaks and then have to catch up, but I always do, and the secure feeling provided by its consistency is _totally_ real.
There's one more thing that's consistent about PR, though: it's just not allowed to make a _real-ass TV show_ until the moment it's staring down the barrel of cancellation. So yeah, I've felt the whiplash/emptiness presented in this video _several_ times. I've been in your exact place after In Space, after Ninja Storm, after RPM, and now after Cosmic Fury, the latter of which has done its damnedest and possibly even succeeded in convincing me that a super sentai season would just _work better_ with a lower episode count. Maybe not _10,_ but, like, maybe 26? 30 tops? Certainly not pushing 50. Not a single iota of footage was wasted in CF, man. Not a single second. As much as I _did_ unironically, wholeheartedly, enjoy Dino Fury and Beast Morphers, I haven't felt the kind of _pull_ that CF had on me since 2015, 2009, 2003, 2001, 1998... or 1994.
And now it's over. What do I even do now? Go find myself, I guess. 😂
Love your channel, bro. Keep it up.

I can't claim to really KNOW him, and yet I had more people checking on my well-being from HIS passing than when my dad died. ^_^; Like, it definitely hurt, and left me feeling weird and numb inside (and don't worry, I shed a tear, so your street cred is still legit), but his family and loved ones are hurting WAY more than I was.
....... it's been a long day, and I don't know if I'm speaking well anymore. XD

Yo bro, I just discovered your channel and I honeslty couldn't be happier. im 21, I grew up on power rangers (mainly cuz I had VHS's from MMPR and reruns on tv) but for many years I shared the same sentinement. It really wasn't until like 3 years ago that I stopped caring ab what people thought and accepted my love for all the things i grew up with (i.e. power rangers, transformers, anime, etc) and I think it's great you were honest with us and in turn yourself. You are one of my youtube inspirations! Keep up the great work and the great content!

I want you to know that I have been a fan of Power Rangers since day 1 and Im now 39 and I knew Power Ranges was on my mind every day when I built my high school life around it. No after school sports or clubs b/c if I have to choose between that or my half hour with Power Rangers I'm choosing Power Rangers all day everyday. There’s nothing wrong with loving Power Rangers i know what you’re going through I went through it when i was your age after college and my dad despises all kinds of super hero stuff especially when there's real world issues going on. Now I'm going through another form of separation anxiety with the hiatus of the lightning collection and Power Rangers as a whole. This is hard for all of us and all we can do is be vocal b/c if we don't speak loudly about Power Rangers we won't be taken seriously. I also have friends who send me the same Power Rangers thing 5 times over and I also i don't have the heart to tell them I've been sent this from multiple people. Everything in life has a season and it sucks that this is the end especially since were also still healing with the tragic death of Jason David Frank so this is two huge Power Rangers realizations in less than a year. On the good side we had Once and Always and Cosmic Fury com out the same year and thats a reminder that wait you can do better when it comes to the Power Rangers brand. Only time will tell. Right now we're in the season of planting and harvesting but after that autumn and winter happen spring comes and all the work that you spent harvesting and planting comes to fruition. Keep doing the video b/c there's a lot off people wh stil care.

Honestly, I feel really heartbroken about the series because the last three seasons just disappointed me in a way that I just can’t talk about without getting upset. And me and my sister literally struggle to get through cosmic fury like we both were so angry. I’m definitely sad because no matter how much I liked or disliked a season. there is always something I could take away from it and always a nostalgia factor that I will come back to or a character that I liked from the season. There was always at least one character that I gravitated towards and attached myself to in the a season and I won’t have that anymore.

@@terrellthaddies7867 I definitely didn’t like Dino fury but to me cosmic fury was so openly awkwardly paced. For me the most important part of a story is the characters and the character development and I felt that was the weakest part. I know that’s not what’s important for most people but I just didn’t love it and while I had no expectations I was still disappointed

This truly being the end of an era feels weird. I grew up with Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force and all the way until Dino Charge (expect SMF, I just watch Gokaiger instead) always saw myself as the Red Ranger or I’d come up with my own Sixth/Extra ranger. Now that it’s over a big piece of my life feels empty, I don’t want to lose the franchise that made me who I am. I wanted to be able to bond with my future children over what it means to be a Power Ranger. Sure we’ll have archives, reruns, or streaming services for the OG’s but I still can’t believe Power Rangers or what we know it to be is over.. 🙁 I hope that Netflix and Hasbro really put effort into the reboot, I know Netflix will take care of us but Hasbro concerns me sometimes; as if they don’t take us serious. Until we all meet again “May the Power Protect You, Once and Always” ❤️⚡️ One last time before I go; Grand Supreme Cosmic Phoenix, power down! - Hyper Cosmic Mage signing off

i don't really like power rangers but i kinda get that feeling that you have. it's like you love a franchise whether it's a series of book, videogame or whatever then you base all of your personalities, beliefs and even your bad habits but then all of a sudden it's going to end, you know at one point that it will come to this but you are still not ready.
it's like the end of power rangers is the moment you realize that time is ticking, you are growing up, the one thing that is always with you consitently with your everyday life is now gone, it's gone and that one portal to all the nostalgia and you “feel-good” childhood memories is slowly sinking away into the depths of the sea and you can't reach it anymore.
but that's life, and even though PR is dead, the memories is still there. i hope you feeling better king.

I think any fan of the franchise would be able to relate to your situation man. I too have been in therapy for a while. I also think about PR every day (whether it’s theories or fan fiction or what if I was one). I’m even that level of nerd to carry a morpher to my job or wear a communicator to work just to bring some joy to the day. I felt the same way when I finished cosmic fury. Like a chapter in my life was over, and I’m in my 30’s. I really felt when you said “it’s been so consistent in my life” and that’s so true. We are all feeling it in our own ways man. We all have to process this in different ways, but know that you’re not alone. I’m gonna really try and dive into the comics because I haven’t had a chance to really explore those yet. But also it’s an opportunity for us to learn more about ourselves. I’m sure people felt the same way when other properties ended like star trek & Star Wars before they got reboots or continuations. But I appreciate your transparency & honesty brother because I’ve been thinking the same thing since I finished the show.
