Father Mychal Judge wasn’t killed by a jumper. He died inside the North Tower when the South Tower fell. The firefighter who was hit and fatally wounded by a jumper was Daniel Suhr.

Father Mikeal Judge passed from a heart attack as tower 2 collapsed. He was inside tower one lobby at command center. Judges final moments are on tape as a documentary crew filmed being there by chance...When tower 2 collapsed they all ran in panic not knowing what was going on. Father Judge was found amonst the pile of fireman who had dove for cover as tower came down just out side the lobby they was at. Famous pic of them carrying him out on a office chair just after collapse.... Alot of video of Judge in Tower 1 lobby obviously on edge from the carnage going on around him. That day will never fade in my memory. I was a 19-20 year old new dad "My 1st born was 8 months old on 9-11" and knew when i saw "i was dripping wet jumping out of shower when report came across Bob and Tom radio show i listened to while in shower" that 2nd plane hit seeing the obvious podded engines and knowing aviation and about wtc 1993 attack.... It changed EVERYTHING about our way of life !!!! The innocence of life ended after seeing wtc jumpers and the humans lost that day... People born after 9-11 or who don't remember life before 911 do not really feel the attacks the way we do.....

My understanding is that the jumpers had no choice. The temperature was rising too high and there was no relief and no hope. The pain was too much. They had too jump. It was no longer a choice, as I understand it.
Temperature was recorded at over 1000 degrees. From what I heard from my mom (trauma nurse) she said their wasn't even the option to sit in a corner and die of suffocation its just something unbearable
I can only guess that it was so horrible that those jumpers chose that option, but it was terrible that some ended up killing other people who were trying to escape themselves..
Wow, this is a hell of a 9/11 story, probably one of the absolute best!!! He saw John ONeill, that's amazing, and the dogs, and he was probably one of the last people to ever step foot on the observation deck & rooftop. Just amazing, and really detailed cuz he knew all the inner workings of that entire area! Excellent, just excellent!
Funny, we still call it the “Fare Zone” today at the new campus. You want to hear stories, track down the crew of Local 94 Operating Engineers. Those were their buildings, they knew them better than anyone else…yet, there isn’t one interview any of the 36 who survived. The only info is from early on. Nothing after that. RIP to Vito Joseph Deleo, Charles W. Magee, David J. Williams and John Griffin M. Jr. RIP Brothers.
People don't talk about the dogs enough. You really don't hear a lot about the role they played in the aftermath of 9/11. You also don't hear about what happened to them after the cleanup was done. I wish somebody could find some of the handlers.

He died in the Lobby of 1WTC as 2WTC collapsed. He was hit by debris on the back of his head. RIP. This version has been going around for 23 years. I think it came about as Firefighter Daniel Suhr *had* been killed by a 'jumper' on Liberty Street as his engine company 216 was about to enter the southside of Tower 2. The story got about that Fr Mychal was also hit when he was blessing FF Suhr. Simply not true. Despite that one misapprehension, how lovely that Mr Guarnera found Fr Mychal's helmet in the lobby of 1WTC and gave it back to the FDNY dep chief. What a brave man for all he did that horrible day.
This is correct. There is video footage of Judge standing in the lobby while one of the Naudet brothers films. It’s actually really sad because you see him look up into the air and he knows it’s going to be bad. When the other tower comes down they all run into a nearby section with an elevator but Judge doesn’t make it in time.
He possibly confused him with another fire fighter who was the first fireman who died because he was hit by a person who did jump. It wasn't Mychal judge but I forget the fire fighters name.
This was so heartbreaking and uplifting all at once. These interviews bring the human factor to this tragedy. Watching the news that day could not give you this aspect. Thank you for making this. God Bless!
Im irish. Ive always had an affinity with New York . I visited in 2007 and didn't want to go home. I paid my respects to those who died when i visited the 911 site. It was the saddest place ive ever been to. New Yorkers are the most authentic most beautiful people in the world . Much love ♥️
Did I do ok. You did better than ok you did brilliant. On a day that saw the worst of mankind you showed the best of mankind and compassion for your fellow man. You and every one of those brave firefighters and other survivors who helped people to safety. Putting their lives before their own. Words cannot express the gratitude owed to so few by so many. Vicks knowledge and understanding of those Towers was key to a lot of lives being saved that terrible day. Respect and ❤️🇬🇧

Mr. Guarnera brings out the confusion of that morning. I was working several hundred miles away and I recall how unbelievable the news was of the first then the second plane striking the towers. For us, it was the second plane that started questions if this was a terrorist attack. So much sadness and confusion that day.

I have and often still do think about the situation those people lived through that day and the hight at which those towers stood has made my heart skip a beat in thinking about that situation and If it would have been me would I have Jumped ? With the upmost respect for those people and that day I believe that in that situation you’re faced with death either way and one of those options wasn’t nearly as bad as the torture of the other. I believe in that position you’ve very likely accepted your fate and I hope ( for those people) that upon acceptance of that fate it gave them the peace and courage to make that Jump. If there is a god up there in the heavens he just had to have guided and been with those people who made that jump R.I.P to all those that lost their lives that day on 9/11 ❤❤❤
I am a New Yorker, born and raised in Queens. Spent a lot of my teen years in 1960 and 1970 running around Manhattan. Had been upstairs to Windows on World for dates and even worked a temp job in WTC for a couple of days back in the 1980's. I was at work in Dutchess County, NY the day of the attack. I had moved up here 11 years before the tragedy. I was on the phone with my husband who was home; I was telling him about the 1st plane when tje 2nd one hit while we were talking to each other. That was when we realized it was a terrorist attack. And just now, when I heard this getleman say that Tower 1 groaned - a noise he had never heard the WTC make before - for the first time I realized that the WTC was really a living entity that was signaling that it was mortally wounded...and it was dying. There would be no way to save it. Nor any of those being supported by its structure. Those high up in the sky would not survive.
I have listened to many witness accounts. Hearing the happenings from the people who were right there, moves you more than anything. Thank you Vic, for sharing your story in such a powerful way. Best wishes to you and your family.

I always believed that father Michael Judge died from heart failure when the first tower collapsed. He was carried out by some of the first responders. He did lose his helmet though.
Think there’s a lot of people that would have a heart attack standing that close to that much steel and concrete falling from the sky. I can only imagine how loud that was.
Father Michael was absolutely not killed by a jumper.. He was killed when the second tower collapsed. You are confusing the death of a firefighter named Danny who was killed by a jumper falling on him as he approached the North Tower. Father Michaels death certificate for this particular incident is listed as 001. So here's the official 001 victim of the tragedy. However, the very first person to die in this whole affair was a gentleman named Danny Lewin Who was sitting in business class on flight 11

The inhumanity of the evil is incomprehensible but they will burn in fires of hell - I have no ties at all from South Africa but it was 2pm our time & was at work when tv was on & how shocked we were to see this horror unfolding. I thought it was a horror movie & will forever "feel" that indescribable pain for those who perished at the hands of satan & their families, living in the aftermath. Nobody can ever understand anything unless we arw in that situation, living it & feeling it. Does not bear thinking & the absolute terror on every single level. Watching all clips makes me weep even though I do not know anyone in US, it is just unthinkable & unforgivable. For those still living with ailments, our hearts, thoughts, prayers & love go out to you forever. RIP for those innocent lives lost 😢🙏💔🙏😭💔🙏🙏🙏🙏

I am binge watching 9/11 again and this video landed in my feed, so I'm currently watching and absorbing. I remember down the detail, where I was the morning of 9/11 when the first plane hit, thinking it surely was a small plane, an accident. I was in the conference room at work and we were all speculating the same thing when the second plane hit. Immediately my thoughts were this was a terrorist attack and that our world would be forever changed. When President Bush addressed the nation, my overwhelming thought was, for the United States to be successful in fighting terrorism, we would have to really and truly understand the mindset. We were dealing with an intensely dangerous enemy and conventional methods would be useless. My sister lives in Manhattan, and she was coming out of the subway as the second tower was hit. She managed to get one of the last taxis to get home. She said the scene before her was nothing short of apocalyptic. Her husband was an eye witness to the entire tragedy, as he watched from a nearby office building, and he somehow managed to walk home. I shut everything down that day. It was incomprehensible and it was the only way for me to manage the intense fear and lack of safety I felt. Fast forward 20 years, and that is when it all unfolded for me. By that time, there were so, so many documentaries and stories from that day and the ensuing recovery, to how this tragedy is still claiming lives through the illnesses first responder and others have and are facing, to the building of the memorials. Through watching endless videos, I finally was able to fully understand what happened that day, and start my own personal healing journey. The chaos from that day, now spilled out into an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge. Through the intense tragedies that live on, I have been able to discover the humanity and the heroism that man does indeed possess, and above all, that there is hope.
I don't know if I missed something there, but (rightly or wrongly) I got the impression he felt the experience made him a better person, with more humility and perspective, less of a need to control a situation, and that this is what his wife thought as well. Even the marriage ending does not mean that she did not feel lucky she still has him. There are many people who are on good terms with an ex; but reach a point where they can't handle living with them anymore.
He said himself that both his wife & daughter found him hard to live with because he was controlling & imbued by his job position. Where does this make the wife seem like a horrible? This man admits that the 9/11 tragedy made him a better person which the family acknowledged..
19:44 when I watched, my brain couldn’t process how smoke was already billowing from the tower BEFORE the plane strikes the building in a replay - an alternate angle found by the news channel I was watching. It wasn’t a replay.

My foster uncle was the head veterinarian for the dogs. Something he still does when there are disasters. His name is Barry Kellog.

I thought Fr. Judge had a heart attack at the scene, not a blunt head trauma.

It’s 2024 and I am Australian but I still watch all these stories about 9/11. I was woken by my husband very early just in time to witness the plane hitting tower 2. RIP to all who was lost on that day and those that followed. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I am binge watching 9/11 again and this video landed in my feed, so I'm currently watching and absorbing.
I remember down the detail, where I was the morning of 9/11 when the first plane hit, thinking it surely was a small plane, an accident. I was in the conference room at work and we were all speculating the same thing when the second plane hit. Immediately my thoughts were this was a terrorist attack and that our world would be forever changed. When President Bush addressed the nation, my overwhelming thought was, for the United States to be successful in fighting terrorism, we would have to really and truly understand the mindset. We were dealing with an intensely dangerous enemy and conventional methods would be useless.
My sister lives in Manhattan, and she was coming out of the subway as the second tower was hit. She managed to get one of the last taxis to get home. She said the scene before her was nothing short of apocalyptic. Her husband was an eye witness to the entire tragedy, as he watched from a nearby office building, and he somehow managed to walk home.
I shut everything down that day. It was incomprehensible and it was the only way for me to manage the intense fear and lack of safety I felt. Fast forward 20 years, and that is when it all unfolded for me. By that time, there were so, so many documentaries and stories from that day and the ensuing recovery, to how this tragedy is still claiming lives through the illnesses first responder and others have and are facing, to the building of the memorials. Through watching endless videos, I finally was able to fully understand what happened that day, and start my own personal healing journey. The chaos from that day, now spilled out into an encyclopedia's worth of knowledge.
Through the intense tragedies that live on, I have been able to discover the humanity and the heroism that man does indeed possess, and above all, that there is hope.
Father Mychal Judge was not hit by a jumper -- he apparently had a heart attack and died when the South Tower collapsed.
Making sure security doors are working has to feel like such a small, pointless thing in hindsight

His wife doesn't sound like the best person. She should feel lucky she still has him
I don't know if I missed something there, but (rightly or wrongly) I got the impression he felt the experience made him a better person, with more humility and perspective, less of a need to control a situation, and that this is what his wife thought as well. Even the marriage ending does not mean that she did not feel lucky she still has him. There are many people who are on good terms with an ex; but reach a point where they can't handle living with them anymore.
He said himself that both his wife & daughter found him hard to live with because he was controlling & imbued by his job position. Where does this make the wife seem like a horrible? This man admits that the 9/11 tragedy made him a better person which the family acknowledged..
19:44 when I watched, my brain couldn’t process how smoke was already billowing from the tower BEFORE the plane strikes the building in a replay - an alternate angle found by the news channel I was watching. It wasn’t a replay.
