How could there not be a special code known only to the captain to unlock the door from the outside? What if both pilots for some reason get locked out of the cockpit? No way to get in so let the plane crash? I know there is likely a protocol that says never leave the cockpit empty. But what if the captain passed out or something and the first officer leaves the cockpit to render aid and the door closes behind him locking them both out? I know they made those doors very strong after 9/11 to prevent hijackers from getting in so it's not surprising that the captain couldn't break the door open with the axe. But Jesus.....I am blown away by the inability for the captain to be able to access the cockpit. There needs to be some kind of emergency protocol. Maybe a special code nobody on the plane knows so a call to the airline HQ with an emergency request for some master code to open the door? Seems a 2 minute call from the flight attendants station to HQ to request a special emergency code would have saved the plane.
A simple deadbolt type lock when in the locked position prevents an open door from being closed. The door has to be closed and only after it is closed can it be locked.
I saw a different take on this accident that said there is a code, but it can be denied by those in the cockpit in case of things like a terrorist situation/civilian trying to gain access to cockpit. If I'm recalling correctly in this situation, the pilot tried and was denied access, which is even more horrific.
The doctor not reporting his illness is not a failure of the medical system. It was the failure of the doctor to be a decent human being. The system did not allow that copilot to fly the doctor did. People should take responsibility for their decisions in life and not blame inanimate things like the system.
So for the first time he did this, why wasn't the altitude adjustment not picked up by the airlines? No questions to the pilot as to why he had down that?
I will say this again committing suicide is one thing but bringing innocent people with you to the grave is just despicable. There is no empathy for the FO but for the Captain, crew, and passengers they didn’t deserve it. After that tragedy and mourning pilots in Germany would start by saying something along the lines of we will get to our destination safe and sound, we want to see our families and loved ones. I heard from the FO’s father is that he still doesn’t accept that his son was suicidal, even with all the evidence. This case had me in tears for everyone except FO. He is a monster for ending the lives of the innocent and they were children on board which makes it even sadder. RIP for the innocent and to their families.🕊️🕊️
@@echo5delta I've watched on flights where a FA will go into the cockpit when one of the pilots steps out. So I guess many airlines still observe this protocol.
I agree with you. Pilots should be able to have access back into the cockpit if this pilot had this choice he may have been able to save the life's of everyone. And I understand privacy with patients, but they know that there job can cause loss of lives they need to informed their employer. HR. And not just tell them not to do it. Like this last dr did. This guy had some real medical issues and should been in a hospital not flying a plane. This is so sad that all these individuals loss their lives because of him. I can't imagine what these poor people felt except fear in the last few minutes. May they RIP.
Ah, yes...a prime example of a safety feature endangering innocents. A thing which, sadly, doesn't merely affect aviation, but all areas of life. I dunno if I should be disgusted or disappointed that we keep getting these events and don't learn from them.
If you listen closely the co-pilot suggested to the pilot that he should take a bathroom break. He said that to get the pilot out of the cabin so he can do his diabolical plan. It is very subtle and it worked.
He was a mass murderer but I wouldn’t call him a terrorist as there was no political or ideological element to his horrible crime. He didn’t do this to promote any sort of cause. God alone knows why he did it.
@PerfectInterview Yeah, only GOD knows why he did it. God is not going to judge him based on his color, religion, nationality, and political ideology, either. He committed a terrorist act period. Is it because he doesn't have a Middle Eastern name or background that you labeled him a mass murderer?. Check Timothy McVeigh, and i bet he was also a "mass murderer".
Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the last time this type of tragedy occurred. Just two years later, the pilot of Silk Air Flight 185 deliberately crashed the Boeing 737-400 he was flying into a jungle river in central Indonesia killing himself and 102 others.
It wasn't the first, either. Egypt Air 990 in 1999 killed 217 people on board when the FO crashed it into the ocean. Similar to the Silk Air crash, the Egyptians deny it but the NTSB made it very clear that both crashes were deliberate.
Mandatory air-marshalls If a pilot needs to leave the cockpit An air-marshall MUST take his place in the cockpit Stand (not sit) in the vacated chair And wait until the pilot returns Then allow pilot to enter Then air-marshall exits That, would have stopped this This, could happen again There should NEVER be a solo pilot, in the cockpit. Period Lives are at stake
We had a high school German exchange student scheduled to come to us. After this tragedy, with the group of exchange students dying, she decided not to come.
I know there's a stigma about folks in aviation seeking help, so very many (sadly)don't pursue it. But seems like this guy DID. How did that not raise ANY red flags? There's some very important questions raised here. I have some depression and anxiety issues, but I'd never, EVER risk another individuals safety. I can't even fathom what would bring somebody to decide to end the lives of even one life. Hundreds?? How was his state of mind not reported to ANY authority? Makes no sense.
This might never have been prevented. However, if he wasn't prescribed some psychiatric drug he might have considered himself to sick to fly until he got well.
And the number 180 was written on his chest if you take out the three in the number on his chest when he’s running 180 again that is a pre-concern notion and warning number of death
This crash is mainly the responsibility of Lufthansa and the German LBA/ EASA allowing a cockpit to be occupied by one person. This is what killed all the innocent people. Stop blaming the mental health of the F/O. As a frequent traveler at that time I witnessed this behavior endless times, where one pilot was hanging out in the galley leaving the cockpit only occupied by a single pilot. Unacceptable !!! US airlines always have a flight attendant stepping into the cockpit before a pilot steps out for a restroom visit.
I've watched this one before but I'll watch it one more time this one is probably the most disturbing even more so than terrorism at least you know what is going on in that case here you just have......... When you become an airline pilot you lose your right to privacy. I have no more respect for these so-called physicians than I do for the family of this individual.

The yf-23 had a faster supercruise. Had a longer range. It met all the requirements and exceeded many of them. Reducing the heat signature just as in the B2 Aunt the b21 raider. If anybody looks at the 6th Gen. Aircrafts they will see that instilled in them. Employed emulated. The Sam is looking for that and if you can create an aircraft with the space shuttle tiles, yes it will take maintenance. All they had to do was add canards to the end or the tips of their wings. Not the front as in Euro style. It was nothing more than backdoor lobbying and inside trading that made the raptor and the billions of dollars in which it cost per unit. That made it extinct before it flew as the F-22 raptor. A total Fleet is good. Then you have parts to replace. When you have to scavenge off another aircraft to fix another then you have to rebuild the part that you stole from Peter to pay. Paul. Totally ridiculous. Japan was supposed to get the yf-23 also, it's run up in as many as they were going to order. The gray ghost and the Black widow would have been 30% cheaper than paying the billion dollars of stopping a 50 acre inside building the raptors. Civil contractors have a clause that when they invest millions close to a billion dollars to set up a Ford concept and proven build as the aircraft moves along in building each aircraft in its specific stages. They cut the order by more than 75%, so that gives the civil contractor to collect on the clause of well over $2 billion. I really believe civil Congress should not have total authority and they flexed their might and powers to be to keep the dod in check. But when Congress does that all they're doing is flushing down the toilet. The billions of dollars just because things get a little hard. The Ford class between the power plant, cats and traps. They were ready to scrap that. Building our carriers and ships and modular form is a expedited way of building and in fact it makes it even stronger. Congress has flushed so many billions of dollars that they are the cause of the trillion dollar debt. Not excluding the zumwalt class where it's just cruising around. There's supposed to be a total of 3. Still there's only one thus far. Every state should think their congressman for that. I don't believe That congressman should have total control over DOD assets and ordinance. When it comes, time to fight and for war. We the people will pay the hard way. Concepts are proven beyond any reasonable doubt. It's just a little difficult at times. When you don't meet a timeline for a congressman then he gathers with his buddies and say let's do this. Let's shove it to the dod. Make the Lost the dod's problem and make it their fault. It took years for the Ford to get online for the concept and it can also handle 4 of the new railguns with its new power plant. I do believe the yf-23 had it all and I believe one of the biggest problems it had was the military magazine had already named it the Black widow because of a aerial shot where maintenance had painted a head hazard and it looks similar to a widow. Just like the F-16 fighting falcon commonly known as the viper. The military hates it, especially the USAF. I believe that was the total turning point of the yf23. Just that simple. The usaf did not want the public naming their aircrafts. They can't stand the F-16 being called the viper. Grown ass children and back door deals is all that it came down to. Wish everybody a wonderful weekend and please take care of yourself 🕊️🕊️🕊️

But I'd also say that "common sense morality" may be quite overdue for an update. It's also perverse to blame someone for actions they truly have no control over. Maybe that's the real question. I am very sorry for your loss.
@@bennettprice3968 Unfortunately a psychotic person can't control their actions any more than a suicidal person. They both have a mental disorder that they did not ask for. They are a victim of it, and it is frightening to think about, but any us would do the exact same things if we had their issues. And yes, I'm afraid the same goes for serial killers.....and everyone else. I am sorry to hear about your partner.
I don't buy psychosis. He was just pure evil.

It's called patient confidentiality. They cannot report without ramifications. Unfortunately, at least in USA anyway.
So for the first time he did this, why wasn't the altitude adjustment not picked up by the airlines? No questions to the pilot as to why he had down that?
@@edzebrowski4445 It was picked up by ATC, and they called the plane several times to ask about a departure from approved altitude.
@@edzebrowski4445 If someones life is in danger they not only can report it they are obligated to report it.
Finally! I’ve been looking for this one!
Hopefully all airlines have a code for aircrew access, in case this happens again or the pilot flying is incapacitated!
There must be two people at all times in the cockpit
@@echo5delta If they need to go to the bathroom, they can go.
@@echo5delta I've watched on flights where a FA will go into the cockpit when one of the pilots steps out. So I guess many airlines still observe this protocol.
Isn't that what he's doing at 23:05 ?
I agree with you. Pilots should be able to have access back into the cockpit if this pilot had this choice he may have been able to save the life's of everyone. And I understand privacy with patients, but they know that there job can cause loss of lives they need to informed their employer. HR. And not just tell them not to do it. Like this last dr did. This guy had some real medical issues and should been in a hospital not flying a plane. This is so sad that all these individuals loss their lives because of him. I can't imagine what these poor people felt except fear in the last few minutes. May they RIP.
Any person treated for mental health should never be even considered to get jobs that compromise the safety of others period.
It depends on what kind and the severity of the mental health issue, but yeah.
Exactly. "Mental health" is over- broad. This guy suffered from psychosis - obviously should never have a pilot license.
The issue with that argument is it's overly vague and can lead to unjust discrimination against people who've suffered from mental health issues.
That would leave many people jobless and a labor shortage, many people are not right in the head ! lol
I remember this crash and those terrorist attacks. We had visited Paris and the alps area ìn 2007. 8 years later this happened.
Ah, yes...a prime example of a safety feature endangering innocents. A thing which, sadly, doesn't merely affect aviation, but all areas of life. I dunno if I should be disgusted or disappointed that we keep getting these events and don't learn from them.
The pilot couldn’t go 2.5 hours without taking a leak?
If you listen closely the co-pilot suggested to the pilot that he should take a bathroom break. He said that to get the pilot out of the cabin so he can do his diabolical plan. It is very subtle and it worked.
@@thraintarironshield4968 diversity is strength
If this didn't work on that flight. He would have done it on the next flight.
Co-pilot probably put on one of those "soothing" water running audios.
Don’t try putting this on the captain. That’s insane.
He was a terrorist. He committed a terrorist act. Call him for who he is because he was fully aware of his actions.
To be considered a terrorist, there needs to be a political or ideological motivation, that’s the classification.
@@Shortypants403 Yeah.. the Western government classifications
Pure evil.
Why cant a satellite send a signal created by the authorities which unlocks the door? That way there is a fail-safe.
Well done documentary
Why would you think that cabin pressure had anything to do with this since the aircraft was on a steady decent into the ground???
Getting down to breathable air.
Just part of the investigation. They have to weigh all options
Auto- pilot.
This is why you can't prescribe a drug for everyone on the planet you have to do real psychiatric work to help people.
So sad for the families. 💔🙏🌷
That is so sad...im.sorry😢❤
disturbing.
YIKES. Ignore cries for help at everyone's risk.
Chilling that he did a dry run only hours before. Cowardly act to take all these people with you.
Mandatory air-marshalls
If a pilot needs to leave the cockpit
An air-marshall MUST take his place in the cockpit
Stand (not sit) in the vacated chair
And wait until the pilot returns
Then allow pilot to enter
Then air-marshall exits
That, would have stopped this
This, could happen again
There should NEVER be a solo pilot, in the cockpit.
Period
Lives are at stake
It's only a matter of time before an air marshal goes postal.
He just crashed the plane because he was struggling with mental issues.
He had the number 180 on his chest

chrisopherjb is german
Didn’t the captain smash is way into the cockpit at the very last minute too? How terrible :(
He tried to break down the door with a crash axe, but it was useless. The door was too sturdy.
Makes no sense.
very sad
The brain is the most horrible weapon.
This might never have been prevented. However, if he wasn't prescribed some psychiatric drug he might have considered himself to sick to fly until he got well.
Good thing that in the US investigators and courts order the right to fully investigate everyone involved when it comes to these matters
Terrible to do this to others n fam
It’s bad enough you want to off your self, but why take innocent people with you?
Treatment for mental health is still primitive. Many illnesses peak
around age 25. Drugs do affect vision in unstable ways.
Antidepressants don't really help sometimes I know firsthand what they do they can make depression worse.
And the number 180 was written on his chest if you take out the three in the number on his chest when he’s running 180 again that is a pre-concern notion and warning number of death
Wait what?

Yeah it’s too bad that there aren’t crashes every day so there’s constantly new episodes
@@distemic Blancolirio channel has entered the chat
This crash is mainly the responsibility of Lufthansa and the German LBA/ EASA allowing a cockpit to be occupied by one person. This is what killed all the innocent people. Stop blaming the mental health of the F/O. As a frequent traveler at that time I witnessed this behavior endless times, where one pilot was hanging out in the galley leaving the cockpit only occupied by a single pilot. Unacceptable !!! US airlines always have a flight attendant stepping into the cockpit before a pilot steps out for a restroom visit.
The guy had been treated for psychosis!
Co-pilot: thank you, made my dream come true

Co-pilot: not dying alone 😅

Yeah. As long as you can just add or subtract a digit here and there, you can make anything mean anything. Sometimes a number is just a number.

When you become an airline pilot you lose your right to privacy. I have no more respect for these so-called physicians than I do for the family of this individual.

When we don't put God 1st in ones life a shooting, plane crash terrorist or whatever will continue to occur. Apart from God we can do nothing. Confidentiality is fine to s point but when it covers up a crime it needs to be taken away. We try so hard to put blame on someone or deal with problems our way, man's way without looking to God in how to deal with the world's problems. We think we can deal with the problems our way and not having God tell us how to live. Again, apart from God man can do nothing right. He Jesus is real and only by His standards can we combat depression, kids killing each other, killing parents. Teacher's having sex with students and so on. Apart from God we will continue to see a deterioration of families, society and evil will reign in many areas. Hopefully not but there's a chance another disturbed pilot will crash another plane. Put God 1st one's life. Believe in Him. Trust in him and turn away from the evil we allow in society. God 1st.
well said there Sean, before reading your comment I prayed for the father at the beginning who lost daughter/family.Take care everyone.
@@mikeh.7499 We seem to think we can make things better for whatever situation if we come up with this idea or that program for the problems of the world. I agree the medical field, world need to hold people accountable and let others know when a person is having thoughts of harming others and themselves. But they also need to look to God in how to deal with the problems. In the bible Steven I believe was having stomach issues and Paul said drink some wine meaning don't just pray but take some medicine. But whatever the situation, problem we need to look to God, believe in Him, trust Him and have faith He can help us man deal with the problems of the world. But man wants to ignore God and try to do things his way and world will continue to have these and other problems. Until Christ comes back we will never have real true peace but if man looks to God we can have less problems or pockets of peace so to say and we will see God's hand at work. Hold people accountable where need to be and be consistent.

There's *SO MANY REASONS* not to fly these days!
I'll *_NEVER_* fly again.
First start with your laws in Germany your liberal laws. The doctors can be prosecuted in any normal Nation they would be prosecuted but more than that you guys wanted to make the cockpit safe so you have that door but you never called you that both pilots should have had a clicker in their pocket that would automatically open the door did you not think of this I mean a 5-year-old could think of this
