Adding oil (changes fuel viscosity) going to run leaner. You got a good handle on it! Just like the dirt bike days. Just let it idle then check the plugs. Does it have a idle air fuel screw? Looks like you're having fun!
Yeah it's a little funky but I bet you figure it out. I've been through a tin of Suzuki motors and I never run across a air leak far as crank seals. I've still got 2 Artic cat ones a Cheetah and the other a Jaguar. Ones a 440 the other a 500. I've got another good 500 motor and a sled like yours I want to get going soon. Get that mixed gas out and run it like it's supposed to be before you do anything else. They are so fun to ride! We go on rides in the dark it's fun!
cant hurt to put the coil and new angle plug boots/caps on. depending on the part number, you may be able to just buy them from NGK. Not sure if there is supposed to be a resistor in the angle boot or not as some had them.
🤙🤙🤙😁😁😁😁😁AHHHH give a chainsaw mechanic an old SNOW SKI!! HaaaaIIIIIILLLLOOOOOVVVEEEEE THIS CHANNEL!!! hey Boedey, Im on yer coattails!!! I moved back up north too!!! Haha!!! One day youre chainsaws, and ZERO snowmobile?! Wtf is that!!! HAA HAAA THE NEXT DAY… 2t HEAVEN!!! More snow??? Yes please!!! Lol nothing in Illinois … BUT CORN FIELDS!! Lol!!
It definitely sounds lean on idle. I’d clean the carb. Poke wire through all the jets. I put kinks and in small wire because you get buildup on the jets and even though you can see light through them, compressor air and carb clean is not enough at times. You can also use strands from a 16 gauage wire if you can’t find small enough wire to poke through the jets. I’ve never had to change jetting on a stock machine. Just because a carb looks clean doesn’t mean it’s clean. Either way good job being that arctic cat back from the grave. Looks like Arctic cat might be going out of business soon also.
Also if you're running ethanol blended gasoline, that can run lean enough to require a change in jetting vs pure gasoline. If the oil injection system is working, definitely can't hurt to try straight gasoline👍🏻
Boudy if your going to continue to mix your fuel then you need to jet the carb, you said it yourself you had to raise the needle to richen the mixture, so bigger pilet jet , then grab a couple main jets to fattin the top end also .but sounds good bud .
The main jets have a # on them you change the jets depending on how cold or warm it is some jets for example in warm weather the the jet range would be 20 to 40 f
Speed The 1996 Arctic Cat Puma 340 is designed to deliver impressive speed and acceleration. Here are the speed-related specifications: Top Speed 70 mph (113 km/h) Acceleration (0-60 mph) 8 seconds
Oil injection has been common on many/most 2-stroke snowmobiles since the mid-1980s Figure anything newer than a model year 1995 is equipped with it (also to meet emissions standards) If you average out the oil versus gas consumption, most will average around 40 to 50:1, metering in as little as 90:1 at idle & low rpms and, 30:1 at wide-open throttle. By running 32:1 premix on top of it, you can quickly figure out it's going to be way too much oil. Some premix 100:1 as an extra safety margin to complement the oil injection.
Unless you were just easy on the throttle imo you are only getting less than half power, like i had an old 1973 yamaha 433gpx that would do at least 60 free air, yours should do that as well imo fun project good luck
I can see it now, big sign out front.
Boedy Performance Saws and Sleds. 😂
This is cool... I love old sleds. When are we gonna port it?

I love bringing old stuff back to life. Oil lowers octane.
👍👍 PEWMA PART TRES…. Will be a nice machine for the wife, you’ll want some faster, lol.😊

By the look of the plugs it's not fuel lean but oil rich for sure!!!

Good job on getting it running though man

If raising the needle helped you need to go up 1 or 2 sizes on the main jet , you had a lean bog .
Replace the wear rods for steering and if your going to run mix 40 to 1 and no injector oil

I do know some of the Sea-Doo watercraft has the same setup

I believe Yamaha boat motors did the same thing in the early nineties I may be wrong though

Check crank seals
It needs a port job and muffler mod
Build a jump!
also when your going that slow it will fill hard to turn going faster it turns better, imo your Down like 60% in power
The clutches are out of tune and the Sims for them also a good thing to look into are composite skies as well
Does sound like it's hooking up too soon.
@Macgyver-ranch yes and for it being an older sled it needs a total overhaul
