NBA players shouldnt even be playing in the olympics if they have to load manage games in the regular season in my opinion. It should be for young players or college players. Lebron , Durant, Curry, Kawhi have all had enough chances in the spolight and should hand it over to the next generation.

@marklumar2034 it comes down to mindset. Kobe came from an era that would play a professional game and then go to rucker. Those up and coming players looked alot different playing with him, then they did months prior before. I do agree on the injury concerns. Embiid solves the problems we had in Fiba, but can he stay healthy.

1. The level of competition we'll face
(All the top nba players are from other countries)
2. The age of our top players
(All of them are over 35 or injury prone)
3. The expectations of our younger players
(Ant and tatum are no where near what lebron, wade, etc were expected to be)

Nobody cares and it doesn't fit the narrative but TEAM USA under 17 is Dominating right now. The future of U.S. talent looks great. We just saw Tatum and Brown body Luka in the finals. As along as our best team up USA will hava chance to win.
I think it's because American's just put all Europeans together like if Europe was one big country like the USA. Jokic would play for Serbia and Luka would play for Slovenia. I think the US would be fine in the Olympics format. USA vs the the World is where it's closer.

To be fair that Micheal Jordan college team beat an NBA all star team that had Bird Magic and Thomas on it. If i recall they played nba all star teams 8 times and won 8 times.
I've always liked the differences. I like the NCAA, NBA, Euroleague and FIBA all have different rules.

@@bolzanni WIth a couple differences. Euroleague has introduced jumpball on the dead ball instead of arrows, which are used in FIBA.

Some teams can compete closely with the US starters but no team comes within a mile of competing with their bench. Canada is nice and has 2-3 really good players. Same with a few other teams, who have 1-2 excellent players. The US team has 8-9 top notch players and the remaining are just all stars haha.

Outside of the Olympics we lost all the time.
In 2014 we finally tied Yugoslavia, a country that doesn't even exist anymore in FIBA World Cups, and before that we were tied with the USSR until 2010.

You got 3 sets of current teammates in Bron & AD, Book & KD then Tatum & Holiday.. 2 sets of former teammates in Holiday & AD then Steph & KD.. & 3 sets of guys who won championships together: Steph & KD won back to back titles together, Bron & AD won a title together & Tatum & Holiday won a title together.. chemistry will actually be an advantage for them

Right now, it is just a numbers game. Team U.S.A. draws from a united pool of 333 mio. people, while the european teams are confined to a fraction of the european total population.
A united european selection would show team U.S.A where they are really at. Imagine Wemby, Jokic, Luca, Giannis, Sabonis, etc. on one and the same national team.
Love when ppl try to make this horrible point. We literally roll a team out after a 5 day training camp, with zero continuity, new coaches every 2 tournaments, and we still win gold. We qualify for these tournaments off a g league team that wins against international competition
You do relize Serbia is currently 2nd in the world and they did that without having Jokić on the team who whether you like it or not is currently the best player in the world. France is stacked too. Both countries have player in the nba and also player which came from Europe and are vary used to Fiba rules.

His back up is currently the best centre in Europe. Also fiba rules actually calls traveling and ball carrying so most of team USA is in trouble especially Lebum assuming reffs call the game fair.

I have been watching the underseventeen World Cup and the US kids are on the tournament run of a lifetime. Absolutely running through countries. In the last 3 games they won by 80+, 90+, 80+ and they are now in the finals.
This Current generation of US players in the league might be weak but help is on the way.
While we do have several great players not healthy enough to play, the fact we had to use shenanigans to get Embiid on team USA shows we’re falling behind the rest of the world.

Ball can''t be an issue because most players play with different balls throughout the season. Domestic leagues and Euroleague/Eurocup have different balls as well.

Gold isn’t a certainty. International players play a well rounded game that includes defense. They practice that stuff. Our guys wouldn’t know how to play defense if their lives depended on it and we all know nba teams rarely practice.

It shouldn’t be called the Redeem Team. It should have been called Kobe to the Rescue because those guys were on their way to not even qualifying for the Olympics. They thought partying all night was more important that rest and preparation. It was a bunch of idiots that had been completely embarrassed four years before and they still didn’t think they needed to take it seriously until Kobe saved the damn day.
The top players in the NBA are NOT American. So the modern NBA is dominated by international players. And that was the point of the whole global marketing effort to grow basketball. However, I still believe that Americans can field the best possible TEAMS if they continue their training programs. The problem is the players AND their respective teams -- i.e., will Team USA be able to send their best players and best possible team to compete internationally in FIBA and the Olympics? 'Cause we saw what can happen when they don't!

Don’t forget that Jayson Tatum is still young, Jalen Brunson and Jalen Brown are only 27, Ant isn’t going anywhere, Jalen Williams is looking good, Darius Garland, Cade, and then obviously all the kids not in the league yet.
