Using a starry line up of singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, actresses Zawe Ashton and Hannah Waddingham, and TV star Tan France, the M&S missive for 2023 is to put yourself and your own needs first.

The only thing more self-indulgent than M&S is the advertising agency they hired to produce this advert. It gives me no reason to buy anything from them, and a couple reasons why I shouldn't.

No, it isn't. This is about people being forced to live up to expectations no matter what and how we all have our breaking point. In other words, you can celebrate Christmas without conforming to commercialized expectations. This wasn't about the kids or family... it was about the bad side of Christmas because certain things are expected no matter how stressful or overworked people are.

M&S used to put up decorations for Christmas in my local small food branch. The last two years there have been no decorations of any kind there. I wrote and asked them why, and got the runaround. I persisted, writing and writing getting a different manager each time and going higher up the tree. And no one at all could tell me why there were no decorations. They did not dare say it was because it would upset other denominations, but that was what they implied. I have not shopped there since and wont be going this Christmas either...

Thanks for the reminder to never set foot in M&S again. I stopped shopping there after you had that special arrangement to stay open during lockdowns, while small shops were destroyed.

Thanks for that, you are right. As for M&S they no longer put up decorations for Christmas in my local food store. I have asked why and complained about it the last two years, and even wrote to the CEO or whatever he is...going further and further up the manager levels and getting the same run around of a non answer. Every excuse from fire risk, to keeping store isles clear for emergencies, to staff not wanting the work of putting up decorations. Bottom line is they are scared of ethnics and dont want to promote Christmas and its Christian message. And this advert is the ultimate woke reflection of that confirmed. Certain members of staff at my local branch left the job and refused to work for them anymore, as I spent some time a couple of years back asking various staff members I had got to know. The whole company has its priorities wrong over this, and they know it but wont admit it. They still put up decorations in big stores like at the Metro Centre or Newcastle for example....but wont in smaller food stores, despite them being decorated up until a couple of years back...I just wonder how long it will be before more shops etc start dropping obvious traditional Christmas decorations for the festive season.....

If you look around on RUclips there are hundreds of compilations of Christmas adverts from years ago, the 70s and 80s and they are all entertaining, Christmas atmosphere galore and either clever or inventive, fun or at the very least show you properly what they are advertising!
