As a super long time horse owner; although this system looks slick and seems logical, it is too many pieces to insert, replace and maintain for the long haul in my opinion. Cheaper and healthier to punch a door to outside and let the horses romp in a paddock area to alleviate their pawing and pacing from being cooped up. Less fuss and happier horses.
I would recommend seriously considering run in stalls in the barn and run in shelters in pasture. Closed stalls are bad for horses physically and mentally.
sonseere10 Well when you board, sometimes you can’t fine barns like that. I wish my barn had that option but once I get my own barn I will 100% get run in stalls.
Thanks for a great video! We are building a barn next year and I am looking for stall mat options to go over cement flooring. Would you have the link for this product handy? and how are they holding up after 3 years of use?
Only took me 4 years to find you. Thanks for sharing this in-depth installation and your experience. There are so many materials now and I don't want one that absorbs you need bleach for after. Hope the product is still available. How are your Ramm stalls holding up now? Tim Anderson made his own this year with the same channel idea. Stay safe and thanks
Very interesting video. I can't find similar products in South Africa. What type of foam/ rubber is used for the bonded chip layer? Do they include additives for fire resistance? I have had sleepless nights before when thinking about stable fires.
Thanks for the video! I just received a quote from SoftStall for five 12'x12' stalls and one 12'x24' stall. That said, can you or anyone using this product provide feed back on the current condition of your stalls after two years of usage before i make the investment? Thanks
Thankyou for making this video, and all the others. Now that you have had this system for over a year now how would you say the foam has held up for your use?
I'm curious. You mentioned this was great with in floor heating. So if your heating your barn then i presume it is sealed and insulated so you aren't throwing heat out the door. How do you maintain proper airflow in the barn without losing all your heat? Looking to build soon and love the look of this floor system on concrete
We heat only under the stalls to keep them from freezing and works great, the temp normally is about 45 degrees under the soft stall and then with the shaving on top insulated enough that none of the fecals and urine there each day doesn't freeze. That means we can sift shaving easy and clean easy and save money on 6 dollar bags of shavings. The only time if freezes on the top is when the air temp in the barn goes to -10 degrees then will start to freeze the urine in the shavings more for those few days. The little extra in propane we use to turn on that zone cost us about 10 gallons more each month that is on 24-7 in the winter compared to running that zone closed. FYI propane is about 1.90 dollars per gallon here when we prebuy in July.
@@RMSpeltzFarm Thanks for the quick reply. We are designing a new barn and so many different options and opinions out there. Already got a quote on the Soft Stall for it. Was considering about the concrete inground heating because we have Natural Gas access. I don't want to heat the barn but keeping the stall floors above freezing is a great idea.
@@RMSpeltzFarm Now that's smart. Here plumbers tend to run the same lines you would in a home. We freeze down to -45c Will have to see if boiler system will work here with cold and granite so close to foundation depth.
We have ours a 2 by 4 glued and 22cal nailed into the concrete across threashold, then the foam right up to it and the mat over the top and down the front and the mat is screwed on the top and front to hold it to it=)
thank you for your helpful video. The only thing I disagree with 100% is putting horses in 12x12's. I NEVER would. i keep my OTTB in a 36x48 and my other horse in 24x48. That is still small to me,
i just wanna know how you taught your horses not to trash the stall walls with their masterpieces 😂😂 i wish out stall walls looked that clean after 6 months
I boarded at a barn that had this system, it was nice except they would not use shavings. It was so gross all the time because the horses urine would lay there in a puddle. And when they would lay down they were laying in their urine. It was so nasty. Plus it was super noisy when the horses walked on it. They definitely need shavings, lots of it too!!! Then I moved to a barn that had 12" of rock as the footing with sand on top. The sand broke down almost immediately, and there was nothing but shavings and rock. Horrible!!!! They refused to put mats over the rock. Just bad on the horses feet and legs.
I disagree with you Sonseere10 my horses love their stalls. They love to go out but love when I come to the gait and let them in. They roll and have fun.
I don't have a horse but I enjoy videos that are informative...you learn something new everyday. Great video. 👍

Paddock attached to stall, ALWAYS the best idea!!!! Being confined to a prison all day for a horse is horrible.
That is very nice, I am planning to build stalls in an existing barn with concrete floors. Thinking this is what we will try and accomplish. Thanks!

Our Ramm stalls are holding up great and the same with our soft stalls=)

love it, we actually have a review video coming out soon since we have had it now about 3 years now this April May=)
wait you're a veterinarian that's what I want to be when I grow up but like I'm going to the 8th grade but I'm just trying to see where do I start
You answered a lot of my questions. Thank you
Hi did you know from which company he buy this one
I enjoyed your video :) Keep it up!
What is the cost of this material per 12'x12' stall, would you say? Just the foam and liner.
Are you in Canada? Seems hard to find here in the US. Where did you purchase it from?

Hello, thank you for posting this video. How is the Soft Stall flooring system holding up after 4 years?
Holding up great, no issues to say that worry us. the floor has little more wave to it after years of drafts on it but over all holding up great
@@RMSpeltzFarm Awesome! That's great to hear! Also, are the concrete floors Hydronic heated or electric?
Broiler heat with piped water anitfreeze mix=)

What about stall walkers
This is a very nice video thank you
Can we find something like this in europe? Or they can send it to europe if we pay the price?
Can you detail the threshold? What is it made of, how is it attached to the concrete floor?
We have ours a 2 by 4 glued and 22cal nailed into the concrete across threashold, then the foam right up to it and the mat over the top and down the front and the mat is screwed on the top and front to hold it to it=)
@@RMSpeltzFarm thanks! I know exactly what you mean!
How much is just one ?
How much roughly was it to do one stall
farm tour?
That’s awesome!

The Mat is Soft Stall, they are sold out of canada if you like to buy one online=)
Thank you for replying Can you give me the company name or number Canadian
Really I need this
The metal building is still going to get so cold, below freezing. It has to be finished & not just framed in.

You are missing the big picture. Closed stalls are bad for horses physically and mentally. Run in stalls----fine.
+sonseere10 Well, many horses are turned out in the day, and put in at night or vice-versa. It’s really not that bad.
I disagree with you Sonseere10 my horses love their stalls. They love to go out but love when I come to the gait and let them in. They roll and have fun.
This is a vet clinic.. so there’s a reason why horses are inside
The best system is no closed stalls. Think like a horse and you will realize why this is true.
Man... you need to work on your script.
