    I hear so many contradictory evidence about raptors, like one expert said that raptors in Jurassic Park movie were extremely exaggerated, and that the biggest raptors were no bigger than a large dog, and many were as small as chickens. I know that the smallest ones that were only chicken size is true, but here we have evidence that some Raptors were very large indeed. This Raptor here must have been a ferocious beast, he is very big and has serious tools that would have scared the shit out of most prey. This beast would have taken even a Siberian Tiger down with ease.

    • @FossilCrates
      @FossilCrates  Год назад +1

      The size differences you speak of are because *Velociraptors* are the size of a turkey but the movie made them giant, larger than any known at the time. Then Utahraptor was discovered which was larger than those in the movies. So size depends on the taxon in question. Yes, a tiger would go down to this beast imho!

    Have any true hand claws from Utahraptor been published on? I know that there was a study years ago that re-identified some claws originally thought to be from the hands as coming from the feet. If there is any paper that describes actual hand claws, can you share it with me? Thanks.

    • @FossilCrates

      Hi! Let me see what I can find in the literature. We are working on casting actual Utahraptor hand claws from the Dalton Wells quarry for a future FossilCrates.com product but it probably won't be for another few months until those are available for purchase.

    Imagine the scaled up version of the velociraptor vs protoceratops fossil found. If velociraptor weighs 100lbs and protoceratops 400lbs, an equivalent would be finding a utahraptor weighing 1,500lbs fighting an animal the size of a hippo at 6,000lbs

    You said it had legs designed for speed but Utahraptor is unique among Dromaeosaurids in being better built for brute strength rather than high speeds. It could most likely catch up to most prey of its potential prey but it was no ostrich.

      Hahahah! Great analogy! We have lots and lots of disarticulated bones from numerous individuals. Combine that with knowing what it is related to and we can guestimate the missing ones. You are correct, though, we don't have a complete, articulated skeleton.
