      Valandar2 If we are talking about hyper realistic movie computer graphics, then definetly. But in games feathers mostly are just planes with alpha masks and aren't simulated but manually animated or if they are simulated, it is in clusters, not each feather individually. Overall, not that amazing.

    In defence of the Jurassic Park franchise, when the book and movie first came out it was very accurate with what science knew at the time, and changed the view of many people on dinosaurs like the t-rex posture and the inteligence. But as science marched on, they had an established image they could hardly move away from. I still wish they would add more feathers and all. But yeah when it came out it was as accurate as could be in a movie

    • @lachlanmacarthur8992

      Olivia Williams well to some extent. They they already knew that raptors couldn't pronate their hands in that way and the dillo was purer artistic interpretation. But Jurassic park was the first dinosaur media to portray them as active and warm blooded and at least mention their relationship with birds. So i give credit for that

    • @MWSin1
      @MWSin1 6 лет назад +20

      The novel/movie Velociraptor was based on Deinonychus, but was called Velociraptor because the name is catchier. It notably lacks the distinctive long and thin skull of Velociraptor.
      That does make one thing kind of funny: Deinonychus was about the size of the movie's Dilophosaurus, while Dilophosaurus was about the size of the movie's Velociraptor.

    • @lachlanmacarthur8992
      @lachlanmacarthur8992 6 лет назад +7

      MWSin1 the reason why it was called velociraptor instead of deinonychus is because in the 70s some paleontologist thought that they were the same genus. We know that's not true now. In fact we knew when the film came out but as you said they went with velociraptor because it sounded better.

    It's subtle, but Scott almost seemed offended by those Utahraptor depictions, and rightfully so. These paleontologists work day and night with little funding to help better our knowledge on how these dinosaurs looked, behaved, and lived, only for it to be completely ignored by popular media in favor of ignorance and nostalgia. It's outright disrespectful honestly.

    • @LunarisRuin
      @LunarisRuin 6 лет назад +126

      I agree, but I also think it's artistic freedom.
      It's these game developers worlds and their own versions of the dinosaurs, so they have the right to depict them as they will. Same with movies and their worlds.
      I used to draw dinosaurs, but I'd put my own spin on them, making them look, in my opinion, cooler than the realistic versions.

    • @thewolfofcomedy5966
      @thewolfofcomedy5966 6 лет назад +86

      5567 5555 But to still have the nerve to call their monstrosity a "Utahraptor" is the final nail in the coffin. They could have easily pulled a Primal Carnage and given their fake raptor a new name, but instead, they had to be lazy, and then we end up with this. In fact, Ark could have been completely accurate if it just gave its creatures different names. My point is, when a video game, TV show, or movie has a lion, they have the decency to make it look like an actual lion, so why don't Dinosaurs get the same treatment?

    • @CJCroen1393
      @CJCroen1393 6 лет назад +88

      For me, the bigger insult is when fanboys of that ignorance and nostalgia go around saying "Well, no one has ever seen a REAL dinosaur before so these games can make up whatever they want and no one can correct them because lol no dinosaurs in real life! You can't prove they're wrong!"
      Whenever I hear that, all I can actually hear is "Paleontology is only good for digging up some dusty old bones! Other than that it's totally useless and static! We learn NOTHING from fossils ever!" and it sickens me.

      loganandrews48 No its not, not at all, physics calculations are also not hard, there are workarounds for the performance hit aswell, so no excuse at all, tell me one animal with fur thats naked in games

    • @GandalfTheTsaagan
      @GandalfTheTsaagan 6 лет назад +6

      Hyperus most animals with fur/feathers in games have it directly textured on the model

    • @jakemaxgross
      @jakemaxgross 6 лет назад +1

      Hyperus um...yeah I’m talking human hair for it to be accurate to real life it is difficult most games don’t have dynamic hair mind you I’m referring to rpgs like fallout or Witcher...really watch the hair in many games it’s either long and moves slightly or short...it’s like beds in games very few have covers that the characters lie under using in game engines...
