Mick needs shampoo for his hair! Please help by donating and downloading his many other unreleased instrumentals on his bandcamp page. He makes nothing from youtube and only pennnies from mailorder. thesixmilliond...
Before Mick Taylor quit the Stones at the end of 1974, he made another attempt to record an extended instrumental he called 'My solo waits for no one'. Jagger liked the melody, added lyrics, changed the title to 'Time waits for no one' and then gave writing credits to himself and Keith Richards. Not many people know this, but the famous mouth and lips logo for the Stones came about from Jagger's constant refusal to give song writing credit to Taylor. Taylor would inevitably see the album on release, then ask 'Hey, Mick, where's me song writin' credits?" Jagger would stick out his tongue at Taylor and laugh. "Wot? I can't hear you knockin'. Wot?" Keith would momentarily wake from his blood transfusion procedure and also laugh, then pass out again.
Needless to say, Mick Taylor was not impressed. He recorded the 42 minute solo on his 4 track tascam and would sell tapes of it through mail order.
In 2017, Mick talks for the first time about his mail order company.
"I was fed up with Mick and Keith! Always stealing my ideas, never puttin' me on the credits. I had to sell my solos through the mail to get my royalties, proper! I even shortened this solo by 20 minutes compared to 'Can't you hear me nickin', which they also had refused to release, and that was still not good enough. At least with mail order, I sold enough cassettes to buy a really good afro wig, which I started to wear on the Stone's tours, just to piss off Mick and take attention away from him."
When shown the afro picture that plays during this video, Mick was aghast. "Oy! What was I thinking? It's like I wanted to be Billy Preston."
When asked what part of the massive solo was his favorite, Mick's face lights up. "You hear that part at 8:22? I really got in the zone. I remember I was thinking a lot about what I was going to have for lunch after I was done playing. Chips? Mash? Bubble and squeak? I got really emotional with the choices. My stomach was growling at the time and that also inspired me. Normally, the solo would have been over an hour, but I had to eat!"
When asked if he could change anything about the instrumental, Mick replied:
"Oh yeah. I should have smacked Nicky Hopkins. He was overplaying the piano, trying to show off! You can hear him, he's purposely playing the same piano arpeggio riff over and over again. Not very creative or imaginative. I would glare at him from time to time, but he didn't care. That was the last time I ever played with Nicky. Can't have two virtuosos in the same song."

Took me about 15-20 seconds to realise but oh man, this was a cruel and very successful trawl. From a trolling point of view I fucking dig the amount of effort and style that went into it. Nobody really trolls with this kind of effort anymore,. it's all just mainly sarky 1 liners. It was worth it just for the pic of mick's awesome fro. That, and to watch sycophants do what they do best.....wetting themselves in public before engaging brain. Many, many top quality cringe moments here. You have my heartiest of congratulations.
Steve Bell What? Someone who understands? What planet are you from? If I had a trophy, I would give it to you.
Chris Kennedy uh. He left the most cognizant and enlightened comment on this entire thread. I am quite sure he knows the afro is a fake as well.
@@shatnershairpiece Nope. The afro is real. Well, not real like a black guy's afro is real...even though Taylor grandfather on his mom's side is a black from Zimbabwe. In fact, Taylor brought his poodle to the doggy salon where I worked and liked the results so much he asked if he could get a "two-fer". We agreed. So, it is his real hair, but not a natural afro. True story.
@@shatnershairpiece Please forgive me for not understanding how this is a cruel trawl. Whatever you term it I love it. It's still an immersion in my all-time favorite Mick Taylor solo. Good or bad, it flows to the same dream space. I'm definitely going to check out your other stuff. Thanks!

Mick Taylor was the finest guitarist the Stones ever had
When Mick Taylor left the Rolling Stones they were never the same.
From a logical point of view you are right.
Mick Taylor still put the gold into the Stones truly Golden years. The classic Stones tunes. Mind you then, Mick J was always tight with 'money & credits'.
Wish he had gotten his due in royalties from those years. Life has been hard for Mick Taylor.
not mick
Mick Taylor a gift from God

Superb Guitarist Mick Taylor,I Think He Added a Touch of Class to the Rolling Stones.
That is well said. He added class and they were perfectly balanced between clash and brash. Ronnie is too much like Keith. Mick Taylor and Keith provided a counterpoint. What other band could boast that opposition.
Rabbit- holed his story and discovered he is the main reason I loved those early Stones albums. This solo on Bandcamp is absolutely the most beautiful ethereal guitar solo I have ever heard . Morpheus blesses and takes away.
Wish his solo career had been more successful. Truly a unique talent.
First solo album is a masterpiece. The rest are more predictably bluesy. Spanish -- A minor off the end of the first solo album is breathtaking.
F major 7 to C major 7 back and forth. These are the chords for musicians trying to play this. 🥰🥰🥰❤❤ I love this. Memories of being a kid in the 80s
Cool comp, great to jam on
Thanks.i read a little but never figured out chords...forced me into improv.
and for the solo should be in wich key?
Yup. . . this progression is taylor made (pardon the pun) for "feel" players. . . . if you can't "get down" on this progression, you better learn how to read music.
any body with a true history of the stones knows that mick taylor was the one and only person resposible for producing such a domineering and ever lasting sound god bless nick Taylor with out nick the stones wouldnt b shit
during this time while the stones were in there least productive years along came mick and upped there standards to witch they they have never regained
It's Mick NOT Nic . Ok dick 😂
Just saw this RUclips - Saw Mick at the Magic Bag (small venue) in Ferndale MI after he had left the Stones. Had this pic with me that night for possible autograph but was told by his Roadie, Mick would be out after the show to meet his fans.
but don't ask for autographs. Show was great and afterwards he came out to talk to fans and when he saw the pic - he said "man that was back in my Afro days", took it and signed and he was warm and cordial to all.
So good. Especially when needing to escape from reality
Excellent Robin, you really captured it,; the 1970s, the Decade of the guitar.
Man I had a whole Caravan full of people and vehicles and we had these songs to carry us along mile after mile . We had a lot going on but like Mick Taylor I had to step out... it's hard to explain but if you were there you would know what I'm talking about... Micks solo has been a part of me all my life .
Have to stop what you’re doing when you here this song.. This just proves their genius.. Never an argument on best rock band in history..
Che chitarrista...lo adoro
taylor best stones guitarist ever ,brains behind golden years of stones ,jagger richarsd stole his music
One of the posts of the year. Nerve up gonna f.... need it in 23. The quick and the dead.
Lovely. i can see Mick and Jimi sitting down together with these backing musicians and just getting lost for hours. I wouldn't mind playing this in the background with relatives over. Ya know, create a good vibe. Dreamy but not spacy.
Glad you enjoyed it
A dreams becomes a nightmare and ends again in a dream. This almost pure magic.
youve got to admit shatnershairpiece puts some great stuff on youtube. and all power to him for his musical ability.
Brilliant improvisation ethereal but also has a hint of sadness which makes me angry about how the Stones mistreated a truly great talent.
Just like Brian Jones Mick Taylor had to much talent for the stones,n they thought about Jeff Beck that would have lasted a week!
YEAH, they BASICALLY MURDERED Brian
@@davidson2004fatboy What a Bull Shit Brian Jones was a addict.
but he was a GREAT Musician!!!
Time waits for no one . . . ❤
Who knew? It's a great song to listen to in the dead of winter in northern wisconsin.
"He played a few chords" - Mick Jagger on this song. Mick and Keith, no inclusion.
I like this better than most later Stones albums actually, good job
Mick Taylor was a great lead guitar player.
After he left The Stones, he found out the hard way it's all he was.
That's what Keith said, but isn't being a great lead guitar player enough?
and so much more effective in the Stones than out of them. He was made for The Stones, why would you leave?
@@stephenzanichkowsky4434 Sure. . . . but it ain't gonna make you a fortune in-and-of-itself/.
For those know the inside story of the stones there was so much going on it's hard to explain but we know Mick Jagger is dark.
This Is Awesome Mick Taylor Sends Me To Other Places With His Playing Never Heard This One What A Master Piece Do Not Think To Highly Of Jagger Or Richards Thank You For This Gem
yeah an absolute gem to find. could listen to it forever. nice one mick. taylor i mean. xx

SUCH A DEEP TAYLOR HEAVEN ....STANDS IN LINE WITH HIS INTENSE SOLOING IN " WINTER " AND JACK BRUCES "SMILES `N GRINS AND OF COURSE HIS GONG PHASE *
Mick Taylor has always been special listen
This is great. Thank you very muuuuch.
This is beautiful thank you.
Yes I do think it’s very clever but of course ultimately disappointing for those of us that were so looking forward to a ‘lost ‘ piece of MT guitar magic
Many actually thought this was Mick Taylor. This demonstrates the immense power of suggestion. The problem is if you don't have a HOOK for a video, you get no views at all. Extremely competitive on youtube, and I love satire. Enjoy the music for what it is and the effort that went into writing this . 99% of youtube videos don't care.
taylor left the band over music rites ,time waits for no one was a huge hit for the stones,my fovourite song
a huge hit - you must be joking
A fantastic song, my fave Stones track. However, it was far from a huge hit. Which is a shame, it was a true masterpiece IMHO.
The Mick Taylor Worshippers are a very prominent group on certain websites dealing with The Rolling Stones. They determine what is true or false.
Their credo runs as follows:
Before the guitarist took up full-time employment with the group, RS had been a bum band.
With the advent of Mick Taylor RS were elevated to a high(er) plane.
When he terminated his employment, RS became a bum band again.
So this credo proves that The Rolling Stones have been a bum band for over 55 years and that it was for five years only that they played tolerably well, which fills the Mick Taylor Worshipper with intense delight.
Exceptionnel , super mental .
This would be good for a drive across eastern bc, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the rest of those Canadian provinces going east, uh, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, nova scotia, Prince Edward island, then up to northwest territories, Yukon, and the rest of the country in the fog.
Mark Leingang yes good music in a great car with super audio system and great Highway tone traveling on.
Stones never gave him any credit , Mick & Keith all the time The Mick Taylor Years are the BEST of the Stones , RD's opinion anyway 😄
WOW, this is a classy work. The creation of the original "Time Waits For No One", in my humble opinion, was that occasion when God himself touched The Stones (the other such occasion definitely was the creation of "Goin' Home"). Once in a while I type the name of this song in the RUclips search bar in case that something new appeared (maybe a rare live version?). And now I've just found that someone made a 42-minute version of the masterpiece. Well, what to say else. I've subscribed to your channel.
I looooove this man
The core I never or really listen too stone songs 75 onwards.Mick T wrote all those riffs.
The rare bass solo that Mick performs at the 18:23 mark is sublime.
Gracias por esta hermosa melodia;que trae paz a mi alma y me hace sonar!
Whoa. The fro. Taylor is a badass.

Yeah I really noticed the pick up at 8:22 myself in virtuoso around there. It is simply superb 1
Sencillamente magistral mick taylor
Nice arrangement and some fine work dude............
Wish it were true, too much here that was not possible to lay down in 1974.
There might be some mixing trickery going on here with this track and Can't You Hear Me Knockin' either contemporaneously with the Album's release or sometime in the hereafter...... is there anyone who knows for sure??
The hair bro
I wanted so much for this story to be true :(
Great treasure ! Thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wish you could get the applause and the knowledge of his craft through the stones more readily but after studying the stones I don’t think I would want any part of them either
Damnit. 19 minutes it took me to realize
This is brilliant., along with all your other extended MT music(esp Winter). I listen to your stuff all the time. Seriously talented! It would be amazing if you did some extended versions of

Thanks for the music SHP or is it Nigel Tunfel :). It must feel great to get lost in the music the way you do.
JayG it’s too bad I had to hide the Gilmour jam, because it doesn’t get much exposure with Nigel’s name on it!
Ron's song writing ability seemed to dry up to the outside world too. Only Rock n Roll was Ronnies..and Mick swapped it at Wick for I Can Feel The Fire...don't think he has bothered since rowing about Black Limousine on Tattoo You.
Another great write up! I expect you're actually a huge Stones fan to get Mick's gripes so right?
Thank God he didn't kick it like Paul Kossoff who left the big band than overdosed on Mr. Smacky. This sounds fresh and inspirational, good atmospheric mood music which I have on so often for background while surfing or to get myself into a pure mind/body/spirit harmony mood.
It's not nice to fool Mother Nature, thank you.
This is as they say genius like that guy from Ozark Mo who used volume like wahwah..what was his name..this guy mick Taylor isa pathmaker.
I think the dead could really really get into playing with this guy,Jerrydefinitely would appreciate him
mick did. In the 80s at MSG. "West LA Fadeaway" It's on RUclips
THat's Noel Redding's "Afro " isn't it?
What was Mick doing during this instrumental? Dancing? LOL.
Great Robin, thats not Micks own hair, its a wig he borrowed
yes, I know this. this is satire.
I started calling bullshit after the first few dozen piano arpeggios. LOL. Then the guitar cheese got thicker. Then that stupid octave effect. LOL. Solid effort, man. Credit where it's due, man. You're dedicated the Mick Taylor. I love that. Cheers.
Really? Is this for real? Nicky Hopkins was the one credited with playing the piano arpeggio at the end of the song and was interviewed about his contribution to 'Time Waits For No One'. I can't imagine that it was Billy Preston that was playing in this rendition of the song. I also can't imagine that Mick Taylor said "Can't have two virtuosos in the same song." Mick Taylor is a pretty humble guy and I find it hard to believe that he would refer to himself as a virtuoso (despite the fact that he was one himself). The veracity of the story above is questionable......
Rumour was that Preston and Hopkins arm wrestled over who would get to play on this song.
@@robertosmith1 That's funny. The story I heard was close, but rather than arm wrestling, I heard Jagger made them Indian leg wrestling on top of a piano.
@@rhymeswithteeth
That's odd, I also heard a similar story but it was phallic wrestling on top of a pianola whilst he got his rocks off with Bowie.

funny I guess cept , The trasfusion was B.S. the songs are written by Jagger / Richards . Mick T. A wonderful Stone his playing and pressence in the band during his time and after are up there with Best Rock and Roll Band in the world .. Blues backed completely . How ever addition of Ronnie Wood has kept them going and renewed their Presence .. Bands change the core is still there . Want one star band Try Beach Boys with Mike Love .. or linard skynard without the core that died in plane crash , Beach boys are not Beach Boys . Brian Wilson and his brothers were the Beach Boys .
Он молодец! По нраву.
No. Really! It's not Mick? Bust My Bubble :( It still could rock me to sleep :)
Is this really a Mick Taylor composition? That photo above looks nothing like him which raises the question.
He’s wearing a wig.

What the...???
I had never heard that story....sort of weird to do a 40 minute solo....not even Trane did that....it sounds pretty however it seems to go nowhere, seems like a loop...why is the mix so poor?....who played on the track?...Charlie kept time for 40 minutes?...Preston did that same arrpeggio for 40 minutes?...Wyman played for 40 minutes?.....and another old Keef blood transfusion reference?...something is strange here....at any rate, I can understand Taylor´s frustration with Jagger and Richards
I never heard that story either…..really makes Jagger & Richards seem like scandalous scummas. Maybe The Brian Jonestowm Massacre (killer band that my son turned me onto) were correct re their theory of Mick & Kieth murdering Brian Jones. But, I ask you Sean Hennessey: have you ever listened to the Grateful Dead? They used to do epic and interesting Dark Star jams that were 30+ & 40+ minutes, Eyes of the World 30+ minutes, Playin In The Band, The Eleven, He’s Gone just to name a few that were long monstrous jams that took on a life of their own (Live) so what’s the big deal re Charlie keeping time for 40 minutes or Bill Wyman playing for 40 minutes straight???? Not a big deal for top notch musicians.
first off, Brian Jonetown Massacre is a great name, in fact I went to see them in a small SF club back in the early 90s just because of their name...and yes, I know all about the Dead, I love them, I saw them many times and I hear what you are saying...but the Stones and Dead are 2 entirely different entities...and listening to this Taylor jam I am hearing repeated phrasings that sound looped...ie, Preston´s piano playing...it is that same arpeggio, no variation...I would never denigrate Charlie, but I have never heard him play more than 15 minutes at a time and those were on the old Jamming with Edward blues jams...in this Taylor jam he is more like a click track...also, as a kid I used to say that Keef may have whacked Brian and I still sort of believe so...I love the Stones but it is no secret how much flotsam and jetsom Mick and Keef have left in their wake...
Well stated and informative response that I totally concur with. I totally agree that the stones and Dead are 2 entirely different bands. Since first listening to this approx 7 days ago (and 10 times in it’s entirety) I am hearing a loop that isn’t done very well and I also must admit that Preston’s piano playing is not very creative nor imaginative.
I have listened also and I now think this entire thing is a hoax...the dude does another "extended " Mick Taylor solo for Can´t You Hear me Knocking" and the liner notes are jive
Sean Hennessey You figured that out all on your own? Is there anywhere you can buy a sense of humor or satire? Have you seen Spinal tap? Did you actually read the notes for this and think for one second that this wasn’t a joke? OMFG.
Bloody hilarious
Who really made this.... great mixing job, like it a lot 60's 70's vibe
Joseph Giordano I made it.
I have never seen Mick Taylor with Afro haircut...
He never had an afro haircut. He wore Billy Prestons afro wig when Preston opened for them in 1973.Taylor played with Prestons band
Didn't Clapton have that look for a few weeks in the 60's?
georhge_p: Mick Taylor DID HAVE an "afro" period, this is a real photo of him by Pennie Smith during the 1973-74 tour, as it was published in several Stones books such as 'According to the Rolling Stones', edited by Dora Lœwenstein & Philp Dodd at Chronicle books, 2003
Not taylorshairpiece then! ;)
George P: I think Mick Taylor played with Billy Preston's Band (opened for the Stones-'73). He would borrow a Preston wig occasionally...
This is GREAT thanks to whoever?
lmao!you got me,man!selling solos by mail order!ah ah ah!
I want to know who the piano player is
Nicky Hopkins played first half, got exhausted, and was replaced by Elton John.
shatnershairpiece wrong! After Nicky fell off his chair, they just looped his part. That’s why it‘s exactly double length.

What the...???
Then you should have stepped aside, Billy Preston is all I can say, between you and Jagger and Richards, Billy Boy would be the No 1 choice for me, jus listen to I Got The Blues, perfecto mundo, ya should have gave him mo time, he was a Keeper !😎!
