The animators and the voice actors reached 120% of their potential during the production of this season. Safe to say, they need a damn long break before the production of the newest season.
Mahito's voice actor delivered a 11/10 performance as everyone but he def stood out. Delivery of the line "I can hear you just fine, you don't have to yell ,itadori yuji" gave me goosebumps
No lie that shit did take me out lmao. In the manga version I own, I always figured he was speaking monotone, but him yelling his line back like he didn’t give a fuck really sold it
@stevenreyes7779 he had an apathy for yuji's emotions in that moment He was almost angry at Yuji for yelling- as if he had no right to raise his voice, or that he was raising his voice out of fear or desperation and was talking down to him by yelling back It was so visceral
not just the action and animation, but the MUSIC and OST's throughout the season were PERFECT. the strings that they used during the last episode, and the chaotic music they show when gojo is slaughtering those transfigured humans, the somber almost nostalgic sounds they use when he gets sealed, the sound design was just masterful this season i loved every minute of it. you could tell that the animators really love this show and wanted to give it the love it deserves even after everything that mappa put them through. i respect them immensely for that.
I agree it gets really good and i think season 3 could possibly be even better, theres so much yet we havent seen that im just so excited for, also good to see ya NTE love ya
he mentions in the video that a lot of characters "die" off without getting a proper backstory or proper screen time, but manga readers will know that's not the case
This is probably one of the few instances where I truely believe the staff put LITERAL blood sweat and tears into each episode, they deserve so much for the absolute banger they produced
I think the saddest part is that the Mahoraga vs Sukuna episode, as you said, absolutely oozes with passion, but the fact that it's a rushed product is so very sad. Being this passionate about something and being forced to release an incomplete product must hurt.
I'm 100% certain it did hurt the animators and everyone else. One of my friends said it was the worst episode of the season bc they were just throwing buildings etc and I was completely in rage bc of that statement xD everyone has their own unique opinion but what mappa created here in their absolute insane situation is just admirable. Sometimes I question how everything would have looked if they really had no crunch and rushing in their episode but every worker in mappa (not the CEO) did more than a human could handle
I do need to point out that everyone claims that the episode was just 30% done, which is not true. An animator(?) said it was just 30% of the vision he had for it. That means something very different. That animator means to say that he had a larger vision for it and didn't get the time for it, and the 30% is just a number he used to express that. And tbh, the episode is still beautifully animated. I liked the art style in it, it felt very fitting for what was happening. Very chaotic. Regardless though, it sucks that we will never get to see what the animator had in mind for it, and that they get so completely overworked. And I doubt it's going to change, because Studio MAPPA isn't facing any actual backlash. Sure, people are talking about it, while still gobbling up every episode they release. There's no monetary incentive for Studio MAPPA to change.
Yeah I don’t know why people are spouting some bullshit saying it sucked. I didn’t even know about this business with Mappa and its animators until recently. All I thought was “holy shit this is the greatest animated episode of all time”
The best part is it just keeps on getting better after this arc. The character development for certain characters, fights, and the plot twists will be INSANE
That’s honestly debatable as I still rank shibuya as jjk’s best arc in my opinion but the current arc goes hard as hell. The one in between tho is a lot of hit and miss for me
Gege wants to move on from the story, he's starting to rush things and you can see the dip in quality in some of the latest chapters. The pacing is off a bit and we're getting some asspulls. Not bashing it cuz I've loved every chapter of the culling games, it's just the truth as I see it. Shibuya is peak though.
I love jujutsu kaisen for its power scaling, I think it’s pretty realistic how some characters are just leagues above others due to skill or pure talent. The power system rewards sorcerers for being adaptable and creative with their technique which is pretty unique to most other shows.
It was wild how every single episode felt like it could be the season finale battle and had me thinking this is where it will peak. Yet every single new episode proved me wrong.
Same for me and I read the manga. My disbelief came because I thought the new episode was so insanely good in everything they can't exceed it. And they were like hold my cupholder, we stay 4 days overnight in studio and deliver insane shit even tho we probably wanna die like some people they animated. God bless the poor animators
I've seen so many people say that an episode was their favorite. And then the next episode came out, and they had a new favorite episode. This went on from the beginning until the very last episodes. 10/10 shonen masterpiece
I get the complaints of the characters dying, but it makes sense to me because in their world, especially in their line of work, you living isn’t guaranteed. I honestly prefer it because it gives you the sense of threat even for the main cast.
People arent talking about issues with just the fact that characters can die, thats always a good threat to have. The issue is that this show will quickly introduce a character, force an emotional aspect for them, and then kill them off to try to force you to feel something. It feels cheap and lazy. Not to mention the amount of times they DONT actually die, which is so common in anime.
Nah shibuya's death were all good and had impact,it's the later arcs that try to force you care about characters with no development to continue the recycled format shibuya did.
After Season 2 ended, the day later I caught up to chapter 247 in a day, and I can confirm it just gets better, can’t wait to see it all animated! Definitely one of my top 3 anime’s.
No it sadly gets worst the pacing of the culling game was to quick and there rushing the ending of the series to quick I mean look at Yuji when has he got the spotlight it’s been like a 100 chapters since he’s gotten a good fight and by the looks of the recent chapters it looks like the creator is trying to end the series within the next 20-30 chapters without exploring most of the series. When I say worst I don’t mean it’s dog shit it’s just not in the level of the previous arcs just gets a little bit worse
@@kta8838 nah i didn't mean to like to say it was trash but that shit did not get better it just got worse. If we are talking about like every detail compared to the previous arcs the next one is the worst
@@yuliee7829I get the pacing especially for the skipped for Gojo fight with Yk. But calling Culling Games the worst is crazy literally my favorite arc.
Gotta say, I do actually like how often they kill off people in the show. I think it gives a sense of the gravity of the situation, and makes it very similar to what I’d imagine a real war is like. I think the reason a certain characters death was so emotional was because they didn’t have the opportunity to accomplish their dreams.
I find it to do the exact opposite. Due to just how frequently characters just die without ever having done much makes me care less for all characters. Instead of raising the stakes it just throws them away because you just expect them all to die anyway. So who cares.
Nah man that’s nothing like what war is like. That’s the exact reason why death being used like this is so lame to me. It’s hard for it to give a sense of gravity whenever the characters are messing around in the fights half the time, nothing like war and it just desensitizes viewers to what war is actually like. If an author wants more gravity to the situation the characters should feel like they’re at war, like in attack on titan or berserk. Throwing around death just for shock value then having funny moments right after is an L
@GrandMagusDK So what do want? Have the characters get ploy armor when fighting foes who are obviously way above their league? Go sit in the back and watch Fairy Tail then 😂
@@crismondragon6045The only characters who were messing around were Gojo and Sukuna, everyone else meant business. Were we watching the same show?! 😂😂 "Throwing around death just for shock value" the story downright told the viewer from the beginning of the series that being a jujutsu sorcerer is the worst career to have as there's no happy endings to being one, yet somehow you get surprised when someone dies facing an opponent who clearly outclassed them?
@@crismondragon6045Weirdest take ive seen. Makes me think you werent actually paying attention when watching the show or were very much so distracted by something else 😭
This series as well as Frieren this season are perfect examples of why 2D animation will forever remain peak. It’s such a shame that Hollywood stopped caring about it a long time ago
The most crucial thing about s2 is the villains actually planning to make that incident happen and they successfully did. Gege's writing to Getwo is so good it makes you impress how they plan everything out while also having another trope to outsmart an OP character by sealing them throughout the arc. Also, want to add the fact that this season is a culmination of events prior (Gojo not wanting to cremate Geto's body, Toji killing the Star Plasma Vessel, Gojo letting Yuji live, letting Mahito live in s1, and Yuta wandering overseas to find cursed tools like Miguel's rope and Toji's Inverted Spear of Heaven).
in the last fights with yuji vs mahito both of their voice actors went CRAZY i actually got chills everytime they yelled or started screaming at each other the fights and choreography was top tier
yall are literally the annoying contrarians he was talking shit about in this video. Every single episode of this season was objectively fucking amazing @@Ryan-mech-muffin
They used different animation styles so from what I hear, there was never any poorly made animation this season. Just a different artstyle which some people may have not liked as much@@DivvayKhatri
For my money Thunderclap Part 2 has to be the greatest anime fight Ive ever seen. Jaw was on the floor the whole episode just in awe of the spectacle and the experimental shots the animators tried in that episode. Truly elite talent
probably bc of the camera changes, it was insane in that fight but mahogara vs sukuna was something if it had choso vs yuji i think our eyes wouldn't even allow that much good shi in our eye@@besratg9207
I dont actually mind if it takes longer for them to make season 3. For the record, season 2 was a bang. They deserve a good long break and if ever they start doing it, they deserve more time to make it. I'm here for it and I'm just glad I get to witness the Jujutsu to their Kaisens!!!!!!
Everyone watches jjk because it has the best character development Marvel should really take notes It doesn't have the best story but it's character development is amazing Jjk is clear of any anime, it's action scenes are amazing, and its emotional I can't stop praising the anime
I dont regret it but I dont feel like watching the anime because I read the manga but again its already been awhile I already forgot a lot of stuff, maybe I let it pass more so I can completely forget it LOL
The animation is so insane with the toji dagon fight you have to pause and play over and over to catch each frame to understand what’s happening. I cant even wrap my head around how much work went into just that fight .
The complaints about the characters being underdeveloped and/or used as short plot devices is somewhat understandable to me. Personally, I think it adds to the quality of the writing. Realistically, there are situations like that all throughout life. Someone will be in your life, your story, for a brief moment, and the effect that they have can be huge; regardless of whether it’s positive or negative. Sometimes people make decisions that affect your story either directly, or indirectly through a friend’s story that might affect your own. Not everyone gets to live their life fully, not everyone gets a fully fleshed out story because that’s life, it’s shitty and sad sometimes, but that’s what makes the stories that continue so meaningful. It also is an excellent way to set up future spin offs and OVA’s. All in all, I think the writing is great. JJK is not my favorite anime or anything like that, but I think few appreciate this part of the writing that a lot of fans might be too spoiled to appreciate. We as fans are not entitled to have everything we want to happen, happen in the stories we like. It’s the author’s story, and an author that sells out and provides fan service instead of writing what they feel in their hearts to be the best story they can write, doesn’t typically create the best story.
The underdeveloped characters make the writing good? They literally cut to another random set of people preparing for a fight when there's something mildly interesting happening. It's even worse than MCU sh.t
I think what's so compelling about season 2 even outside of its animation is that the stakes have never felt so real. Season 1 feels more like a build up season, whilst this arc is the payoff for your patience...but in a brilliant twist of fate, that payoff is incredibly devastating. Just great work on Gege Akutami's part.
In addition to its animation, what I find particularly captivating about season 2 is that the seriousness and significance of the events portrayed have never been more believable. The first season gives the impression of being a season focused on setting up the story, while this storyline is the ultimate reward for your perseverance. However, in an unexpected turn of events, this reward turns out to be extremely heartbreaking. Gege Akutami really did a fantastic job.
Rika is a combination of the soul and curse. At the end of JJK 0, Rika's soul was freed and what's left is the curse. The curse is what Yuuta is using. She's basically a JJ Stand for him.
I've said it once, ill say it again. Season 2 of JJK, has to have been some of the most fun I've ever had watching anime in a long time. Absolute work of art.
Your Moist Meter on the 1st season drove me to the show. I introduced it to a friend on their birthday. They were more than happy. Looking forward to each episode of season 2 has made me happier too. You've gladdened and helped me.
It's amazing to see how well this season turned out despite its numerous production problems. God damn, the dedication of each and everyone behind it is simply jaw-dropping. I mean, I've seen the BTS clips of the VAs legitimately crying after doing their bit. Man, what a way to wrap up the year. Here's hoping that the JJK team can finally get their long-deserved break.
@@nategrey3058unfortunately, you are probably right. the only reason why you have to wait is to; 1. see if they gain valuable profit 2. make a script 3. produce the actual animation 4. voice act the scripts and sync it with the animation 5. release trailers to hype it up and to advertise it
I'm kinda appalled that Mappa's management decided to just ignore the internal disorder and drama within the company, as well as the widespread online criticism, and just announce season 3 as soon as season 2 ended. It's kinda sickening that they didnt even take a single second to think about the consequences of their management
The problem is much deeper. Mappa isn't even the worst example, almost every single studio struggles with tight schedules because the demand for anime is crazy high but there are only so much animators working in the industry right now, and nobody knows what to do about it because the work culture in Japan is f'd up and higher ups are not even trying to make a difference. Mappa just happened to be the scapegoat because they get to work on a lot of big franchises
What did you expect them to do? It's basically their flagship product and they aren't the only one in the production committee so they probably couldn't have postponed the announcement even if they wanted to
I think the most underrated part of this anime is the insane soundtrack, there are so many unique tracks designed to fit so perfectly with each big moment i've never felt so immersed in anime's music before
genuinely the best anime I've ever watched. I'm not even a action/ fantasy fan and it had me HOOKED. the crazy plot twists and the way the story just makes sense as you get thrown curve ball after curve ball is phenomenal. the explanation of the cursed techniques as we watch along, studying with the characters too. the animations is just beautiful and the voice acting is untameably good (sub). how you can skip over a detail watching it the first time and it changes the story completely. the characters are incredibly complex and its just the holy bible of all animes. my god. its a masterpiece.
This has literally no story to it, just random people explaining their powers to the enemy and fighting them. A whole subway station full of people gets massacred and they cut to a f.king grasshopper that talks that the viewer should give a sh.t about it. How is this marvel popcorn sh.t a masterpiece?
@gutteroilmonster there is sorry to it in my opinion! If you pay attention it's very important and shows background and character depth immensely. It isn't mindless fighting!
@@0noff0n Mojito smiles and attacks, that's literally his entire personality. The volcano guy has no personality or motivation also, just wants to kill people because he hates them? This is anime fight porn, nothing else
What’s absolutely crazy is that as soon as I saw the video title I didn’t even need to hear what it was about , I just knew. This season has been an absolute MASSIVE success. The story really picks starts to pick up in this arc, and now we’re only going to get peak action and battle shonen for the upcoming arcs. This series is going to go SO far as it continues to be animated.
Imagine having industry's top animators producing probably one of the best animation this planet has to offer and not letting them finish their work completely. It's crazy to think that what is seen in these episodes is nerfed animation. Episodes were completed literal hours before they had to air, and by complete I mean as much as they can be with the awful schedule they had. These people deserve so much more. 😔
The last episode made me realise this is my favourite show of all time. the last episode shows the scale of the Shibuya incident and it’s conveyed so well
I understand the complaints about characters dying without really fulfilling much but this is a direct parallel to Yuji’s belief in that everyone should deserve a natural death. The fact that they didn’t get that in a way is mocking his ideals and further reinforcing the fact that this is war, as with what Mahito said, he kills humans for the sake of it just as Yuji kills cursed spirits.
I read the manga after season 1 so I knew what was coming and it still blew my mind every episode. Everyone who worked on those episodes are some of the greatest in the industry and deserve all the recognition they are getting. All I can stay is if you are anime only, stay that way you will be rewarded more in the long run (not to say its a bad manga, quite the opposite, but the anime is just that good)
@user-ou3wf2xn7d a good example is China getting to Mars despite its government and the poor conditions most seem to live in. Asia will never cease to fascinate me
As someone who really isn't a big fan of where the manga has gone, I do hope that the anime is able to improve upon what will happen next. We shall see.
@@NicoSuavemente Yeah I think Stankey isn't caught up fully because it's pretty universally hated atm. People keeping up week to week are either hate reading at this point or just on the highest grade copium to see if certain things get undone or reversed somehow.
Agreed and the anime adds moments too, like Toji's fight when he drops that fish and does the tongue thing... like when was that in the manga? But it was very welcomed, helped my moist metre.
Sukuna is one of the biggest menaces in all of anime, he goes out his way to make a 15 year old kid live through hell and traumatize him just cuz he can and cuz he doesn’t like him… next level pettiness right there.
Jujutus kaisen S2's first 5 episodes being a flashback and somehow one of the best parts of the show still amazes me. Shibuya incident arc was also increadibly good, but the issues of dimming and ghosting and the rushed episodes just makes me really excited for a bluray release where we can see the piece shine without the sabotage imposed on the artists.
I read at the time how people where unimpressed by the flash back like 2 eps in and saying they knew they should have dropped it, and how season 1 was better (all the while at the release of season 1 they said it was MID and overhyped etc.) Then they got to shibuya incident and said its dragging (like tiktok brain) then when it picked up and got crazy they said its lame for killing people off too fast without a big emotional send off and foreshadowing (like generic shonen) I really think said people dont like shonen which is fine or need to watch fairy tale or other more accomodating shonen. Where the plot is trying to save the universe or something and the villian has some time bomb they stop and win etc. Heros win villians lose so on.
even in the manga, I've always thought the Hidden Inventory arc is the most well-written in the whole story. the author paid a lot of attention to the characters and their emotional background - something he doesn't delve into too deeply most of the time. the arc felt complete but still impactful for the rest of the story because it essentially led to the Shibuya incident. and I was really happy to see how amazingly they animated it and the cinematic approach to it.
@@nichescenes People expect every shonen to be made for fuking 12 year old boys that want to see main characters always suceed no matter what. It's fuking lame, I am bored and honestly fed up with those lame ass shonens where you can sit back, relax and be 100% sure that your MC will always come out on top because of course he will, because your MC is fucking Mery Sue that will be given everything they ask for. Lame ass approach to story telling that people now expect, it's truly pathetic, and people have audacity to say that JJK is typical shonen when it clearly isn't, and sentences like that coming from fans of One Piece or Naruto are the biggest unfunny joke I ever heard.

I hope they get a chance to animate the perfect preparation & culling games arcs lol it’s crazy how the story just continues to snowball from here. Hopefully they get their shit together & start respecting their artists
The thing I really enjoyed about Shibuya arc, back when I read it, was that the stakes were extremely high and almost every character was at risk of straight up dying.
Fr Gege didn't hold his punches. Charlie mentioned some characters never had a chance to grow...honestly I love that about Gege. He isn't afraid to fuck up his characters. It makes it feel...realistic? Like seriously if you're grade 1 or lower and go toe to toe with a special grade...you would realistically get fucked up and thats exactly what happens in the show. I fuckin love it. The characters who died knew the risk going in and paid the price. Fan love will not save you, nor will plot armor!
I think it's an AOT situation. Week to week people hate it when they catch up as they want more each chapter, but the pacing would be awful if you got alot to chew on each chapter aka big reveals every 6 min of an episode...Also the story is still good. In fact way more story beats are being revealed than shibuya incident which was thrilling but not crazy in the story department. Hence i see some people who said the s2 was underwhelming and overrated as they think it was too hyped and didnt pass their top 20 or whatever (lame stuff i know) like people can like a thing and it doesnt have to be the best thing ever but we can still say its good watch it. Like in 50 eps this is pretty good. It took 19 eps to beat dbz freiza back in the day. People hate on this series too much.
@@nichescenes Culling games overall was pretty good imo (sometimes long-winded but w/e) BUT currently where we are, post the big fight (won't spoil), the writing has kinda fallen off imo. It's still good, it just feels asspull-ey for the villains at this point. I'm not saying that because of any character favoritism btw, idc if everyone dies, but i at least want the explanations of HOW they die to make sense in the story and for them to have meaning and not be random.
Gege is rushing the story the past 8 months. I’m pretty sure it’s because of his health issues. I’m 80% sure that once the anime gets to that part of the story gege will fix some things in the anime that he intended to do but didn’t have the time for it
The story is also amazing. It’s very subtextual that you have to pay attention with the crazy fast pace. Next season will Definetly show some reasons for certain things or concepts shown
I love the literal, count it out, 2-frame JUMPSCARE of Sukuna's face in the middle of his fight with Jogo. You have to imagine what the animator was thinking - aside from "Someone please help me" - to include that on what was ostensibly a TV broadcast program that was produced down to the last available hours of work. It's like a Curse itself. A spite unto the audience. The audacity to put a Jumpscare of all things into an action scene - and it's so damn good. It's not just fast movement or detailed key frames. It's like a Jerma SusGuy face that takes up the whole screen. No other anime has done that to show speed. Fucken Wacky out of Ten, great show. Hopefully next season they have a reasonable fucking timeframe to make it because the action ramps up even higher.
Actually that Jogo vs Sukuna eps is probably the only episode in the later half to have good production time because as the episode director said he's lucky to be able to start working earlier than his peers. Tho after he completed his own eps he also started helping his friends with the next episode (sukuna vs mahoraga) which was some of the worst last minute production disaster.
bro the second s2 got to the part where they are in the barrier in the city it switched instantly. The vibe, the music, the feel, the behavior, the violence, etc.
I’d personally give it to Vinland saga season 2 but I wouldn’t be upset if this got anime of the year. Both are really good but Vinland had more of an impact on me personally.
One thing JJK needs credit for is its music and how well its used. Normally in anime outside of ops, eds, and maybe the insert song I either don't remember the ost in general or don't really know the names of tracks. But both parts of season 2 especially had me so hype whenever stuff like Our Mission and Delirious would come on, as well as the new songs for part 2 that I went and searched out people's covers for them so I could listen to the tracks. Hearing the version of Remember during Yuji vs. Choso was amazing. Also this was like the only anime I was going back and rewatching episodes and fights while it was airing, sometimes before watching the new episode and often times immediately after. I watched the Choso fight, Yuji vs. Mahito, Todo vs. Mahito, and Yuji + Todo vs. Mahito countless times. Just an incredible season overall and MAPPA heads should give all of their present and future wages to MAPPA staff and give them an entire paid year off at this point for the sheer love and devotion they throw into their projects like JJK, Chainsaw Man etc.
I disagree, the music is actually very underwhelming in this show. Heres a couple animes with music that fit very well: tanya fhe evil, ragna crimson, prince of tennis, overlord, Tokyo ghoul (didnt like it but music was fire). I like jjk but no, the music doenst deserve any mor credit thsn it already does
I agree, the way they used the music and remixed some tracks in there was so well done. Even just thinking back to both of the Gojo vs Toji fights, the music really got me tensed up.

To be fair about the characters dying randomly thing: It is fitting within the story's theme and is a way to challenge the main character's view of wanting to lead people to a proper death, so naturally many people around him would die improper and unresolved deaths to add conflict and challenge to the core theme. But yeah Nobara deserved better despite this, I didn't even really feel anything when she "died."
Charlie put into words my EXACT feelings about this show. Never have I EVER been so hyped about an anime...I haven't been this excited since watching Yu Yu Hakasho for the first time as a child.
So code geass didn’t do anything for you? Elfen Lied? Madoka Magical Girl? Death note? Attack on Titan? None of the Gundams? Or any of the Fate series? Just hakusho and kaisen? Damn bro, either you got a really specific taste or you need to broaden your horizons
I personally love the story and world of JJK. Its so unique in the fact that the main villain lives inside the mc, and Yuji always gets the blame for Sukunas actions
well... he IS to be blamed. Moron acted tough and made a deal that lets Sukuna do whatever the hell he wants. So it's in fact COMPLETELY his fault. Sukuna is also not the main bad guy.
The animation and plot as a whole is world tier. This is like anime psychedelia. My one gripe is that some of these fights and the power of each sorcerers mechanics are hard to follow. It can be very disorienting and confusing trying to line up everyone’s abilities and listen to their explanations of their techniques while so much is going on. I will have to rewatch at least once, maybe twice to fully understand what is going on and how to process this thing. Still an amazing piece of work though.
Also charlie !! Fun fact: Hidden inventory opening is gojo's perspective and how he regrets not helping geto. And the ending is geto's response. Also in the opening, there is a line "a voice unvoiced , Do we meet again". Thats what gojo said to geto in jjk 0 the movie. Where they censor it. Jjk is really an amazingly written manga. Not just the fights, the story is equally amazing.

As someone that 2 weeks ago hadn't seen JJK, I finished season 2, 2 days passed, and I dove into the manga like a crack fiend. I read 116 chapters within 24 hours or less from when I started and am now waiting weekly for my next hit. And great googly moogly, the action of upcoming seasons is going to be absolutely nutty when it's animated.
Regarding the animation, I went back to the first season just for fun, and noticed a significant difference in quality. Like Jujutsu Kaisen season 1 came out in 2021, and this season only came out only two years after. Like only two years and seeing the MAJOR quality increase of the animation and art style also is just amazing. I think that season 2 felt so cinematic with its animation with how high quality it was at a lot of points. It’s amazing the way they were able to take season 1s animation and just absolutely top it like nobody’s business.
gege used jogo as an excellent tool to show the power gap between gojo & sukuna vs all other characters in the series and just how big of a problem it is that gojo got sealed and how big of a problem it is going to be if sukuna gets revived at full strength. gojo and sukuna made jogo look like a trivial battle but then he goes and 1 taps 3 grade A sorcerers in like 10 seconds lmao
I need to get on Season 2, because the first season is insanely stunning in terms of combat and animation. The manga of JJK is extremely scuffed looking, but what they did to turn it to Anime is bordering on mystical.
It's astonishing how much sheer effort was put into it, even further for those who have read the manga previously. manga readers know that there are TONS of scenes the animators either extrapolated on or created purely from scratch for the sake of making a cool setpiece or action. the best example of this is a fight Sukuna has vs a powerful character later into the season where tons of scenes were added and expanded upon. jjk season 2 has been nothing but an improvement from its original form, which is amazing

jujutsu kaizen is hands down my favorite anime after season 2. when i thought it wasn’t quite going to live up to the first season, i was absolutely wrong. it already has me wanting season 3 but i want the animators to have the time to do their thing and not be rushed. about to rewatch both seasons since season 2 is now finished. thank you for making this vid (especially w minimum spoiling) bc the hype is absolutely justified and ppl should definitely check it out if they haven’t. haven’t wanted to recommend an anime to others so much in my life
@@kayanono so they’re working on an entire season already. how are the people working on it not quitting after experiencing the pain that was creating season 2? I get that finding another job can be hard but they’re killing themselves.
I honestly think all the negatives he brought up people have is from people who want it to be a generic shonen like their perfect idea screams fairy tale and then they hate fairy tail...like they say jjk doesnt give them enough time before taking characters out when they dont expect it...fairy tail will add a big sweeping good bye and the characters will way before hand show they will sacrifice themselves so you know who's safe or not. Naruto too. Then you have the play by play to explain the plot cause people cant keep up with fast pacing so slow it down please. People get distracted by action and equate action to no story for some reason if filler padding isnt added. People hate that they dont have a depression arc or some deep philosophy on the meaning of life, all the while the shonen isnt as generic as they say and literally the story is about those dying around him and him finding the means to carry on and have a proper death. I swear this generic shonen people keep saying exist doesnt since it gets axed and the popular ones they call generic are some of the best were getting in the genre. Its just that its easier to say some iseka about the meaning of friendship is deeper.
Season 3 is going to be so insane if the animators are given the proper time they need to make it. Shibuya was incredible with some noticeable dips in quality that purely comes down to the people in charge putting everyone through nightmarish crunch times. If you're just into JJK for the great action and fights that's great, but it does get so much better when you realize these deaths aren't pointless and just tossed in for shock value. Right from the start we're told that Jujutsu Sorcerers almost never die a normal death without regrets. As Todo himself says, trying to find meaning in the deaths of their allies can often defile their memory. It gets so much better when you start to realize the nuances and subtleties in the plot, and we haven't hit the point where it all becomes obvious yet. The last episode especially is super important but a lot of what fake-Geto is saying doesn't make too much sense yet. The next arc is when the main plot properly is established and fully understood. It's a pretty long setup but damn is it soooo worth it. The new characters we'll get introduced to are some of the best in the entire story.
The narrative is brought forth through the importance of the fights that are happening and the effect they’re having on the story’s main characters. You can definitely argue that it’s not as nuanced as something like Attack on Titan but there’s definitely a good narrative there
i think killing off the characters that still have narrative potential is ment to leave a void in the viewers that came to love them leaving them with real heartache and making the death much more hurtful, it wouldn't impact you as much if the character did everything they were supposed to and leave the world without regrets
It’s kinda insane how the next big arc to come has more infamous fights than this season does, the fact that Charlie praised it so much for its animation and action is crazy because manga readers know that the upcoming fights are arguably more hype and crazier.
This season was so fucking good, that I can say I'm full and satisfied like I just ate a big thanksgiving meal. I'm usually one of those "give me the next season asap" but tbh MAPPA can take its sweet time if the third season will be just as good if not better (culling games finna go crazy). The animators and voice actors deserve a long break, MAPPA needs time to get it's shit together and the viewers need some time away from all the emotional trauma.
The Shibuya arc was so much clearer/easier to follow in the anime than in the manga. I didn't get half of it in book form but it felt great in animation !
2:36 I think this issue comes more from manga readers from what I know. The upcoming arcs in my opinion are still really good, but your mileage may vary with certain moments
Season 2 was so amazing, very rarely do I pick up a manga after watching an anime but I cannot wait until the next season to see how the story continues. This is one of the best new age series to come out in a looong time, it has something for everyone, and I just love how far it's come
I'm genuinely in awe of this explanation by Charlie and he could not have done it better this was perfect for anyone who's ever watched or never watched the show or anime. 12/10 amazing video very well done.
The animation was amazing and those animators deserve so much praise. But, I do think there were some fights (2 in particular) were the animation was so good and so crazy that it actually was too much. Those fights were so overwhelming that my mind almost felt numb. Also the story is lacking. The story in season 1 was simple but effective, entertaining and most importantly easy to understand. In this season there wasn't much of a story expect jumping from one fight to another. And the story beats that we did get were just confusing especially near the end with the reveal about Geto. But the earlier episodes of season 2 which showed Gojo when he was younger had a good story. Overall I thought it was still lots of fun and would highly recommend.
I've read the manga and still am keeping up with current chapters, but I STILL tuned in the very HOUR the episodes dropped even though I knew everything that happens, that's a testament to show how amazing and full of passion this production was. It's still sad to know that most of the animators had certain scenes incomplete or more refined. Thank you to all the talent who were able to put this out!
one of the main themes of JJK is regret and being unable to achieve what you want or deserve so if a character dies before reaching that "point' , it doesnt take away from the writing for me Gojo already said this and even The Brain himslef says that hes lived for over a thousand years and has forgotten what regret feels like Why? because he does what he wants why is this important? Mei Mei and sukuna did what they wanted where is Mei Mei opposed to Nanami? safe and has her money where is sukuna opposed to Gojo? not in a box
Much like Sukuna's domain, this season was like witnessing a painter conjure a masterpiece on thin air without a canvas to paint on. It's truly been an absolute gem of a season, and every episode felt like a finely written love letter to all the fans worldwide.
99% i give it a 99% my absolute favorite anime this year, what an epic way to end the year, even under the bad working conditions of Crappa the staff and mostly im sure the ANIMATORS have done such a freaking good job, EVERYONE IS SO TALENTED!!!!
Toji and nanami have some of the best voice actors i have ever seen in a anime its just beautiful the way they talk because thier lines have so much thought behind in the writing. Jujutsu kaisen season 2 gave a amazing entry to todo, toji, Maki, Mei-Mei, Mechamaru, Mahito. Though to be fair there were some fight scenes where you have to yawn sometimes because we wait alot for the real fights to happen. Jogo was easily my most favorite villain since season 1 when i watched in 2021. Something about his backstory and ideologies are just amazing you don't get to see that in most animes nowadays. I absolutely gave respect for Jogos fight with sukuna because it was just animated really well and gives us a brief hint about how he really fights when put in full potential. And the most absolute favorite side character for me is Toji because the way he fights and speaks and his voice actor everything is beautifull he is a well written character and its a shame the manga gave him a short while to be on screen. Overall the animation and the ending is all amazing and inspired me to finish the manga now
It’s sad to see that these conditions were able to produce some of the best animation possible. It really makes me wonder if the conditions were better if the animation would be better or if this is what’s needed to make great anime….
MAPPA really fucks over its artists hard. Animators for anime are one of the worst jobs in Japan for how much shit they get from producers. There are very few exceptions, and MAPPA is not one of them.
The animation is very good don't get me wrong, but it could've been way way better. Even in the sukuna episode (don't wanna spoil) you can tell many frames have been rushed (faceless characters, moving textures on static characters, unfinished coloration...). With more time I feel like they'd have been able to make the best animation ever period. But there are other shows with better animation imo like the end of demon slayer season 2.
Thank you for this!! I absolutely believe it deserved it's own video, and completely agree with you on all points made. I first started watching the series after season 1 was released entirely dubbed. The first season was captivating in it's own right, but I wanted more. I even saw the movie entirely dubbed. Then season 2 started being released and the only way to keep up with it was to watch in subbed, so I gave it a try. It was the first time I had ever watched an anime entirely subbed. I had always heard that "subbed is better than dubbed" but how much does that ever ring true for any anime, right? Well, this was different. I think after like the first 7-or-so episodes of season 2 were released they started dubbing the older ones, so I rewatched it in dubbed and it fell very flat of personal expectations. It didn't have the same weight. This was first time I have ever experienced the true difference, and it's night-and-day. That is my only gripe with this series, that the English voice acting sucks comparatively. Other than that, it's absolutely fucking stellar. Typically I would say I'm not an avid anime watcher, but I've seen a lot because of my friend who really enjoys the genre. This was one such series that jumped out at me and has been insanely captivating. It genuinely deserves awards for it's animation and Japanese voice acting.
I feel like everything blended together really well with spectacular music, fluid animation, dynamic fight scenes, incredible sound design in key moments and use of lighting that i’ve never really seen been done before other than the original FMA. It’s so sad that all it’s all at the same expense of the staff at MAPPA though Like i’m conflicted, I want Culling Games to be animated because it has some of my favourite scenes, characters and plots developments and I was happy to see MAPPA recent announcement for season 3, but knowing what the animators are put through and the amount of current projects that MAPPA are animating like the Chainsaw Man movie etc, I would honestly prefer them to not animate it, or at least hold off for the time being. But corpo scumbags will do anything to increase their own wealth
The animators and the voice actors reached 120% of their potential during the production of this season. Safe to say, they need a damn long break before the production of the newest season.

not just the action and animation, but the MUSIC and OST's throughout the season were PERFECT. the strings that they used during the last episode, and the chaotic music they show when gojo is slaughtering those transfigured humans, the somber almost nostalgic sounds they use when he gets sealed, the sound design was just masterful this season i loved every minute of it. you could tell that the animators really love this show and wanted to give it the love it deserves even after everything that mappa put them through. i respect them immensely for that.

Hopefully mappa workers are allowed to go home after this but I kinda want more episodes so I don’t really have an opinion
That episode was still beautiful and definitely a highlight, sad how talented those animators r but are getting treated like shit
Yeah I don’t know why people are spouting some bullshit saying it sucked. I didn’t even know about this business with Mappa and its animators until recently. All I thought was “holy shit this is the greatest animated episode of all time”

nah shibuya is definitely the peak tbh can’t think go anything that’s topped this except for THAT fight. iykyk.

The power system rewards sorcerers for being adaptable and creative with their technique which is pretty unique to most other shows.

power scaling is heavily inspired from hunter x hunter

It's crazy to think that what is seen in these episodes is nerfed animation. Episodes were completed literal hours before they had to air, and by complete I mean as much as they can be with the awful schedule they had. These people deserve so much more. 😔

I am going to be VERY interested to see how this ages when the anime catches up to where the manga is atm.

The culling games arc would benefit the anime format more.
In a way, the sudden and unexpected deaths drive home how messed up the Jujutsu Sorcerer world is, and how easily life is taken.
Trollege sukuna
Actually that Jogo vs Sukuna eps is probably the only episode in the later half to have good production time because as the episode director said he's lucky to be able to start working earlier than his peers. Tho after he completed his own eps he also started helping his friends with the next episode (sukuna vs mahoraga) which was some of the worst last minute production disaster.
Sukuna vs Jogo was outsourced so the mappa animators weren't getting rekt on that episodes.

To be fair about the characters dying randomly thing: It is fitting within the story's theme and is a way to challenge the main character's view of wanting to lead people to a proper death, so naturally many people around him would die improper and unresolved deaths to add conflict and challenge to the core theme.

The Sukuna and mahoraga fight was beautifully animated I love how the frames just change to show the carnage and destruction around

This season was truly incredible and I’m hopeful for the future
Yes, i think it is definitely very deserving of its amazing animation and choreography. Top tier animation and an absolute masterpiece.

And the most absolute favorite side character for me is Toji because the way he fights and speaks and his voice actor everything is beautifull he is a well written character and its a shame the manga gave him a short while to be on screen. Overall the animation and the ending is all amazing and inspired me to finish the manga now
Only the real ones know that the Sukuna vs Mahoraga episode wasn’t even finished in animation
It’s sad to see that these conditions were able to produce some of the best animation possible. It really makes me wonder if the conditions were better if the animation would be better or if this is what’s needed to make great anime….
there is so much better animation out there
Like what @@Davinmk
Def the first option
Bro the Sukuna vs Jogo fight is one of the greatest episodes of a show I’ve ever seen
I feel like everything blended together really well with spectacular music, fluid animation, dynamic fight scenes, incredible sound design in key moments and use of lighting that i’ve never really seen been done before other than the original FMA.
It’s so sad that all it’s all at the same expense of the staff at MAPPA though
Like i’m conflicted, I want Culling Games to be animated because it has some of my favourite scenes, characters and plots developments and I was happy to see MAPPA recent announcement for season 3, but knowing what the animators are put through and the amount of current projects that MAPPA are animating like the Chainsaw Man movie etc, I would honestly prefer them to not animate it, or at least hold off for the time being. But corpo scumbags will do anything to increase their own wealth
